I am sorry you feel that way. The idea of this packet is to give students a sampling of what a math test may be like, but not too much. It is already stressful enough for them. Also, the skills I added to it are skills not required for kinders according to the CCSS. I did this to give them a fair chance on the test.

I have an "everything" binder for each child that is tabbed with sections for our calendar jounal, writer's workshop paper, a math journal, and our math practice pages from the series we use. I print each calendar journal page so students can just flip to the next page quickly. We color or put an x in each box for each day that goes by for the weather tally, and we trace numbers as each day goes by on the calendar weeks. I have not done a student sample because most of the kindergarten journal is a traceable set. I will have the next year's calendars available in June or July. Yes, we take the Kindergarten Terra Nova. This also goes with the IOWA, as we used to take it. The questions are only from the parts that the common core does not require, such as time and money, and patterning. Remember, these are only sample questions and practices to prep for them. There is also number identification on it.

It can be an independent "must do" center activity during your math work station time :) I have been contemplating making them for first grade as I have many requests for them. I purchased the read, trace, make & write name template - mainly for the cutting activity at the bottom. I cannot get it to print correctly so I cannot use it for cutting. It always prints with a blank table overlapping the one with the letters of their name.

Hi, just download the font, then open the downloaded file and click on install so it will put the font in your computer's font files. Then put some text in the box, highlight it, and choose the printclearly font as the font for the page. Contact me at maggieskindercorner@yahoo.com if you have more questions. Thank you for all your hard work on this! I think this may work for my class. I was wondering, though, if these calendar pages vary in tasks as the year goes on or if they remain the same. I am still trying to decide what would be best for my first graders...changing it up as the year goes on or a consistent routine they can rely on. Let me know what your plan is and how you designed your calendar pages. Thanks!

Not sure what you mean about the "how" I designed it, but here is a reply I posted on proteacher:
"This is just a different design. Students still see the entire month, but the weeks are separate rows with day names on each day of the week, and a number for tracing the week's number and the day's number. They are not missing the month in view, but have a specific week to identify and work with each week. It draws the eye to focus on a particular week. Since kids learn better in chunks with frames around them, they find the date faster! We compare this to our smartboard calendar activity as we work in our journals during morning meeting. You can download a journal and see what I am talking about. I have such a difficult time getting kids to find and draw their pattern in the correct block of the calendar under the correct day and in the correct row. This is a way of scaffolding learning to help them see what exactly makes up a calendar month-days make weeks, weeks make months. I have three more calendars scattered around the room (behind my small group table, near the door as we come in and go out, and over my sink which is our snack calendar). They are getting a quick lesson in calendar, but I feel they are gaining much more. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if this answers why I presented them in a way students have to read Week 1 and trace the one, then find and trace the date, and finally, color the next color in our current month's pattern."

Your other concern is how to use them all year. I actually believe the repetition is important for the entire year in K. As students gain confidence through the year, they are able to complete the journal as part of their morning work before we have morning meeting. Morning meeting supports them by allowing them to change their data if they made a mistake. I will ask them during transitions to count the weeks, days, name the month, name the date, etc., on the regular calendars posted in the room. If the whole class counts them, the whole class gets a click on the smartboard reward system (online program that is free--I use Whole Brain Teaching question/answer format in my class). Yes. I am aware of that. It takes multiple practices writing numerals in the correct sequence to master the concept. Since I print the journal as one complete booklet,it was easier to include addional practice pages. I had my students to practice one of those pages each week. My students also take home similar homework practice once a week. The journals are not numbered in order to allow the teacher to match them to the lesson sequence he/she has chosen. Thanks for the question.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have taught K-12 Music, third grade, sixth grade, second grade, and kindergarten (for the past 16 years). I am a songwriter, pianist, and love recording original music for early literacy classroom use. I have also created several things for use teaching the Common Core Standards for Kindergarten.
