Is there an answer key or rubric?

No, because each student will choose different facts to write about. I'm going to give my students 2 pts. for each topic they write about with 0-2 pts based on how well they develop the fact. I'm going to have them choose 25 facts because we only have a 55 minute period that day. If you want, over the summer when I make out the objective test, I can locate the page numbers where each fact is located and add that to the test and then re-upload it.

In fact, I can post the summary/short answer style now

Where can I find these novels? Are they in the this unit or under a different name?
Thanks1

I'm about to post them. I had them saved on my school computer. They are called "Orbit" Project and Test #1, "Crater" Project and Test #1, and "Back to the Moon" Project and Test #1. I'm also posting an introduction to the first two books and the overall project as a free PowerPoint entitled "Off to Space Project Introduction." I will be posting another free PP entitled "Exploring Space Project Introduction" to go along with the research project for sale.

I recently purchased the Space Exploration Unit. Do you have a test for the Martian Chronicles? Also, do you have other Space novels with test material for this unit?

Yes, I do have a test for Martian Chronicles--which I thought I had posted but if not will get that posted this week--and I'm in the middle of developing tests for three other space novels: Orbit by John J. Nance, Back to the Moon by Homer Hickam, and Crater by Homer Hickam. The latter is a young adult novel. I have my 9th graders reading the two former ones right now. I will be posting two different types of tests. In fact, I can post the summary/short answer style now and the objective style by late summer. I'm going to have my 9th graders read Crater next year. Oh, I also have stuff for Ender's Game posted. Orbit and Back to the Moon have adult themes in them a little cussing but my students and parents were made aware of that and if they objected then the student would have been given Crater to read. However, there were zero objectives out of 115 students! I will also post another space exploration project that my 9th graders are currently doing.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

For the past 25 years I have taught everything from junior high (7th and 8th grade) English, including gifted ed, to university English and education, to adult education in a vocational rehabilitation center, to high school English, with an emphasis on AP Language and AP Literature. I currently teach at a STEM school that has an aviation and aerospace theme. I also have nearly ten years of online teaching experience.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Being a bit ADD myself, I prefer variety--everything from mini-lectures to small group activities to individual writing assignments so I can work with students one-on-one. I prefer hands-on activities and projects.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Is this the bragging section? Although I have enough certificates and plaques to cover a wall--everything from Who's Who to USA Today--Teacher Team to teacher of the year for two school districts, my best honor is when students come back after graduation and say: "Gee, you made college so easy! I can write my essays practically in my sleep. Thanks for preparing me!"

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.A. in English, MEd., and hours and hours and hours of professional development!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Reading to me will always be a REAL book, allowing me to curl up on my favorite chair with blanket, tea or wine, and a cat or two on my lap.
