I purchased "End of the School Year Fun" and wanted to use the diamante right away since we're finishing up a poetry unit. It has errors in the first and last line--two words 'the' describe summer and two words 'the' describe school. I don't want to send work home with errors like this, so could I get a corrected copy? Thanks.

Hi,
It stated on your vocab unit for The Outsiders, that you also have a complete literature unit. I am unable to find it. Is it still available? I searched The Outsiders Literature Unit as well as your name.

Thanks!

Thank you so much for your question and your purchase. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that there IS a complete literature unit I have created for the Outsiders - I just haven't had time to download it yet. I put the Vocabulary Group Activity up with intention of putting the rest up right after it (hence why the unit is mentioned in the description), but haven't been able to get to it yet. This year has been CRAZY!

I am hoping to have the rest of the unit up this summer. I apologize for the "false advertising."

Hi Meghan!

I actually bought quite a few of your experiments! :> I recently bought the Space Shuttle experiment. After reading it over, I was wondering if you could share your "answer" to the last question. "Why does Earth's rotation make launching rockets into space more complicated?" I have my own answer but I wanted to get your ideas as well! Thanks for your help!

I'm so happy to hear that you have several of my experiments - my students always loved experiment days and I hope yours are too!

I work with my students to understand that the reason the Earth's rotation makes launching rockets into space is so complicated (or the reason why a moon landing is so complicated) is because it means that not only are we moving either closer to or farther away from our target - but that our target is moving too. Those variables (and sometimes we talk about additional variables like weather, satellites, etc) mean more complications, more difficulty.

Hope that helps!

:)

Hi-

I think I am missing part of this lesson. Thre is no activity page to it, only a survey/worksheet. Are there instrucitons on how to use this as part of a class activity that I am missing?

Thanks!
September 15, 2012 Report inappropriate comment
Meghan Mathis
Meghan Mathis  (TpT Seller)
jkbaca, you have the entire lesson. I apologize for there not being instructions included, perhaps I should consider adding some to the download. An anticipation guide is a quick and easy activity to use in your class at the start of any unit where the students might be encountering opinions or ideas that are new or different to them. Just pass out the survey and read through the questions, having the students rate their responses. Then, as a class, discuss their choices. If you want, you can make the activity more kinesthetic by set up a number line on your front board and have the students get out of their seats to stand under which number they chose.

It is a simple activity, but a powerful one because it allows every student to engage with the ideas they will encounter in the text without having to "risk" being wrong. When you reach places in the text that hit upon the issues discussed in the Anticipation Guide you can then refer back to it, seeing if any student wants to discuss it further, change their opinion, etc.

I hope this helps and I know that your students will enjoy this activity when you use it in your classroom. Thanks!

Your download should include the following products: Caught You Being Good, Answer of the Day Journal, Classroom Contract, Dear Me!, Introduce a Classmate, Math Self Portrait, Meet Your Textbook, Our Class Monster, Top Secret!, We All Fit Together, The Hardest Test of the Year, and the 5 Interesting Things +1 Review.

I re-downloaded my product from my home computer, double checking to make sure all items were included, just to make sure that the problem wasn't there - so you can try to download it again to see if that solves the problem.

If that does not work, try to resolve the problem on your "My Purchases" page by clicking on this download and then asking them to send you hard copies.

But if that doesn't work again, PLEASE email me at meghanmathis@gmail.com and I will make sure you get the items you purchased.

Do you have a smaple of a completed project? Can the "memorable events" cover standarfs from other subjects? I'm trying to see how I can tie in several standarfds at once. Graphs were a small standard this year. What kind of graphs will students be making?
April 15, 2012 Report inappropriate comment

Meghan Mathis  (TpT Seller)
I'm afraid I do not have photographs of completed projects. I'm planning on using a modified version of this activity as a "Get-to-Know-You" activity for the start of next year, so I'll have to get some then.

This activity has students creating a line graph where they choose several events that happened to them throughout the school year, rate them, and then graph them accordingly. When completed, the should be able to display their graphs and either describe (or write about) the "highs" and "lows" of their school year based on how they graphed those events.

As far as tying it to other subjects, I imagine that you could ask your students to think of one thing that happened in each class that they want to graph. If you wanted to change the activity even more, you could ask them to graph the events in history they learned about this year by how interesting they found them, or how much they enjoyed each topic covered in math?

It sounds like you are working towards some really interesting and multi-disciplinary end-of-the-year activities! If you do end up using my activity, I'd love to hear how it goes. Good luck and please let me know if I can help in any way.

Raina,
I've used these materials both with a 6th grade class and a 10th grade Learning Support class with great success.

In both classes female and male students enjoyed this novel, but for different reasons. The girls seemed to enjoy the concept of being able to change their looks, while the boys enjoyed the different types of technology described in the novels and the thought of having to run away and fend for themselves.

Overall, I think that you would easily be able to use these materials with a 7th grade English classroom - especially if you were planning some interactive read alouds for the longer sections.

Please let me know if I can help you out with things else!!

Thanks, Meghan

Hi Beth,
I'm so glad that you liked the experiments - I had fun making them and my students have loved "experiment days" in class.

I think that the following experiments work best with teaching the scientific method and the accompanying worksheets specifically highlight each step. This is nice because it reminds students as they are working which step of the scientific method they are on at each point in the experiment.

- The Honest Abe Experiment: This one does not go through all of the steps of the scientific method in detail, but it is an excellent beginning or introduction to the scientific method because it helps the students see why the OBSERVATION step is so important. It also involves no water or any other materials than what is included in the download - so its EASY! I usually start my scientific method unit with this one.

- The "Sodaquarium" Experiment

- The Crazy Raisins Experiment

The other experiments in each of the sets all follow scientific method...but are often more specifically geared to a topic or area of science. The "Egg-citing Egg-speriment," The Honest Abe Experiment, The "Sodaquarium," and The Crazy Raisins Experiment are all the ones I use to really focus on helping students learn and understand the steps of the scientific method.

Hope that helps!

Hi Cathy,

I apologize for the confusion. I have created two sets of math games. "Math Games for Middle School" and "Math Games for Middle School 2." Both contain 12 games each and can be purchased for $12.00 a piece.

Because I realized that some teachers might want to purchase only one or two of the games from each set, I also sell each game in both sets individually for $2.00 each.

Again, I am sorry for the confusion. If you are interested in purchasing the entire "Math Games for Middle School" set, I will speak with Paul about reimbursing you for the individual game you purchased.

I apologize sincerely for this oversight! I've included the answer key - which I had written on a separate page originally and forgot to include - and re-posted the item. If you have already purchased it you should be receiving notification to re-download.

Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know about this! I apologize again for my mistake!
