I taught 2nd grade for three years and am teaching 3rd grade now. I am really enjoying the new grade level! I love how engaging the smart board is for my students. I enjoy creating lessons that capture their interest.
I am enthusiastic about teaching and learning! I try to foster this enthusiasm in my students by creating a safe and comfortable environment where imagination, creativity, and cooperative learning are highly encouraged. My goal is to provide mentally and physically engaging lessons infused with a rich cultural repertoire to increase student achievement.
My shining teacher moment happened when I decided to make a switch from 2nd to 3rd grade. On our Ice Cream Social night, when students come to meet their teacher, one of my more challenging students from 2nd grade came running in enthusiastically. His mother told me that he had slept with the note I wrote to him on the last day of school for the entire summer. I was beaming! I am so grateful that his mother shared this story with me.
I attended the University of Iowa to attain my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in Reading and Language Arts. I am currently attending San Diego State University to receive a Masters in Reading Education along with a Reading Specialist Credential.
