I've been teaching early childhoood and elementary school students for 14 years in various positions. I've been a long-term substitute for K-8th grade, an assistant teacher in a 4 year old Headstart program, a volunteer in a special education classroom, a reading lab and math lab teacher, a computer lab teacher for Pre-K through 6th grade students, and am currently a Kindergarten teacher.
I provide a set routine and a structured environment for my Kindergarteners. I prefer to teach the students to do as much on their own as possible. My students are expected to practice responsibility and independence. They are encouraged to attempt to problem-solve on their own, as well as with their classmates, before they ask for my help. I also think that children need support, love, hugs, band-aids, a listener, a pants-buttoner, a shoe-tier, a safe place and smiles...and I do my best to provide what each child needs at different times. :-)
