I've had a pretty diverse career, primary grades and intermediate; classroom teacher and literacy coach; large inner city schools and a very small rural school; Indiana and Washington.
I know that all children deserve instruction based on their current ability and performance, differentiation is the key. Assessment (both formal and informal) plays a critical role in my instruction so I can know exactly what each child knows and exactly what to teach next. No two children are alike, therefore no two experiences in my classroom are exactly alike. I encourage children to take an active role in their own learning and employ the workshop model in multiple subject areas. I strive for learning to be authentic but understand that all children must have a strong foundation of basic skills before applying their knowledge to a larger task.
