The file is working on my end. Please try to download and open again. Sometimes that's an easy fix. if not, open a ticket with TPT and they will find our problem! They are usually very quick, but let me know if its not remedied soon.

Hi Michele,

Thanks for the reply, but I'm still a bit lost. Within the zip, there aren't any BRs or exit tickets. The zip includes: 1) Judaism Classroom Comparison Activity, Comparison Class to Judaism PPT in one folder and 2) a World Religions Complete Teaching Unit Part 1 Folder with: 3 Christianity items, a rubric for a comparison test, hinduism/buddhism puzzle, a Hinduism/Buddhism PPT, a PPT on Islam, a PPT on Judaism, 10 Commandments Analysis, What is Jihad, World Religion Handout and Reading, World Religions PPT, the "Unit Plan" and a card matching game.

Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Perhaps the download wasn't complete? There are only those 2 folders and neither of them include any plans, BRs or ET. Thanks for any help you can provide.
March 23, 2014 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
They are on the unit plan in the zip file and the preview. They are simply prompts that you give the students to complete. I usually wrote mine on the board for the students to do as they entered the class.

I wish I could send a screen shot on here! If you have any other concerns, it is easier to email (I get them faster than I do TpT notices!), and I can get back to you with more detail, including images!

Hey Michele,
I just purchased the World Religions Unit. It looks fantastic, but I was trying to figure out the day 1 plans. I see the Unit Plan with the brief overview of what is covered on each day, but am I overlooking the lesson activities that you refer to? Specifically, The Blind Man and the Elephant, the notebook requirements and information, the reading, "Where are they From?" I downloaded the preview that showed me this overview and assumed that it was lacking details since it was the Preview. I was thinking that all the neccesary information to teach the unit from beginning to end would be included since it said, "Complete World Religions Unit". Any suggestions on where to locate items within the zip that perhaps I am overlooking? Thanks so much! It looks like it will be an interesting unit to cover.
March 23, 2014 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
Hi Kendra!

I can help!

The notebook entries are on the unit plan, which should also be in the zip. They are the BRs (Bellringers) to start the lesson and the Exits or LSAs to wrap up the lesson at the end of each class.

The Blind Man and the Elephant is a very popular poem on different perspectives. It is not mine to include, but it can be found (for free) bu doing a simple Google search of the title. It is such an incredible poem, and it really helps your students to understand how we each see things differently.

As you open activities and powerpoints, you will also find some activity and lesson prompts on the first or last slides for each day.

If I can be of any more help, please let me know!

Your instructions say "After viewing all maps and completing the map analysis questions, work with your group to discuss the wrap-ups." May I ask where "the wrap-ups" are that you mention. You then refer to these "wrap-ups" again when you say, "Write YOUR OWN responses to the wrap-up questions, considering your group discussion and all of the evidence you have gathered from your map analysis." Waiting on your reply before i rate your product.
March 16, 2014 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
The wrap up questions are the three questions at the end of the student handout. They require students to put all of the information together to consider the question and to respond appropriately. They "wrap up" the lesson! :)

If you have any other questions, please let me know. This one lesson is part of a full unit, and I do provide much more teacher direction in the unit plan for that bundle. I apologize for any confusion.

March 12, 2014 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
The first cartoon is from Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes. The translation is "There is no power on earth to be compared to him." It accompanies a discussion by Hobbes for a social contract at the time of the English Civil War (King Charles I). As for a key, I do not provide them for these types of analysis activities since there is no "right" answer and students may make a number of different by reasonable responses. Please let me know if you have any other questions, though, and I will help all I can!

I'm not sure why it is not opening now, but in the meantime, here are a few other options:

I really like all of the Crash Course videos, but he is a fast talker and a bit sarcastic! I would find it appropriate for high school (but there is a bit of mild language), but not at all for middle.

This one is by United Learning, so it is a bit more dry, but you still get all the content. It is also part of a larger series, so there are plenty of options for additional viewing.

There is actually not a link for students to use in creating the brochure; they can use the information gathered in the Ppt or from the other provided activities or you could have them use any classroom resource if you want something other than what is provided in the full unit. A textbook, encyclopedia, or religion book would have all this! It may be a good activity to take to the library to allow them to use different resources!
If you do want to use this as an online activity, the following website is very straight-forward with the information in a kid-friendly manner. http://resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/homework/religion/christian.htm
This site is also very complete, but has a bit more reading required: http://www.uri.org/kids/world_chri_basi.htm

This is definitely my shortest WH unit! It's one of those units that our admin felt we should rush through rather than give the attention it deserved!

There is not a student handout that aligns with the lecture in this one. However, the web reading study does overlap the content. You could use it for both activities, or in place of the web activity, depending on your time for the unit. Or, I always had my students take notes to this one in a KWL format. It helped us review the note-taking skill while addressing the topic!

Hope you enjoy the unit! And I will put this on my to-do list!

Could you just give me a quick synopsis of how you teach this lesson? Thanks.
December 25, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
I actually set this up as a Centers activity where students go from location to location to collect information on the absolute monarchs in each nation. All of the materials are provided to set it up in this way, including student handouts and wrap-up questions to conclude the lesson.
Another option for implementation is to divide your class up into groups. Provide each group one nation's materials, and either have them report out on the monarchs in their nation, or do this as a jigsaw activity where students become experts on their nation and then share with a new group once everyone is moved.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks, Michele. Is there any chance you would offer credit for the pieces I have already purchased?

I don't have any way of doing that, but you, as a buyer can request that TpT make adjustments for a duplicate purchase. I think they contact me to verify, and I can approve it. Sorry it's so complicated! :) I wish we had more access to control over matters like this.

Hi Michele,
I purchased the ppt notes for Ancient Egypt and the Riverboat tour, and the pyramid building project. You state in the notes for the pyramid project, "This is part of a larger unit of the Early Egyptians. This is the culminating activity for the unit." Do I have all of the parts of this unit?

Thank you so much for being so helpful! I really really apprechiate it! I'm still a bit confused about the Classroom Judaism Comparasion. What exactly are you putting at each station? So far I understand that they review the ppt and the video in the ppt .. but when they go to rotate at the stations what will you have there for them.. if anything?
Thank you and I look forward to your other answers when you get the time.

The materials are the Comparison Class to Judaism ppt and there are 3 slides for each station, beginning with slides 2-4 on Monotheism. I then review the entire activity by flipping back through the ppt and having students share their comparisons with the class. I hope this helps to clarify!

Oh goodness .. it seems I'm going to have quite a bit of questions! So sorry! I'm trying to plan for when we come back after break! I'm looking at your activities on Christianity... and this link http://geneva.rutgers.edu/src/christianity/index.html doesn't seem to work for me. Does it for you? Is the website just down? Also do you have a set of world history atlas you use? I'm wondering if I can find some at the library... any suggestions? Our school is very short on supplies and I'm the only SS teacher for the middle school so I can borrow from someone else!

Hello! I am working to address your questions, but I am in a location where I cannot get a good download signal to open the zip file. I can get to the library tomorrow to double check everything before I reply fully!
On the link, I think it must be the Rutgers server because I am getting a "too slow to open" error right now. The link should be good. If I cannot get it to open in the morning, I will find another that will work for you!

I had a set of 10 Nystrom World Atlases I used in my classes (we always grouped 3-4 to an atlas). I actually got my set from a library book sale for 10 cents each! :) You can also find them really cheap on Amazon if you are okay with the older editions (for ancient history, things have not changed!), but the shipping can add up.
I'll be in touch again in the morning!

Another question... I'm finding the judaism comparison a little confusing. Your notes say that they use the info from the ppt as well as the news report (what news report?) as well as what are you putting at each station? Maybe I am missing something and you could clear it up for me! Thank you!

The news report is the videos they would be viewing in the lecture/ppt instruction.

Hope all this helps!

Im looking over the Judaism ppt and both links don't take me to the proper video link page. The first one on the red sea I was able to find but the second on Abraham I couldn't. Can you please post the links if you have these? Thanks!

I quickly found this entire set of animated videos on the classic stories from the Bible and Jewish History. If you follow the link and then look to the right, you will see many to choose from. This will help until I can redo the links!

Since I left the classroom this year, I gave all of my hard copy resources and student examples to my former student teacher. Sorry! But for things like this, I often did one myself before assigning it to the class to use as an example. Hope that helps!

Hello,

I recently purchased some of your products and they have worked really well. I plan on buying more soon. I had a quick question I checked out your blog and almost all of the products in your store. I thought on one of the sites, that you said you did an interactive notebook for your classes.

I attempted one this semester with limited success. I want to do one next semester also. I have seen where the problems this semester are and I want to try again. Do you have any advice or resources that you could send my way. I have been teaching for nine years now and previously only used binders. So I wanted to try something new. I am originally from New Jersey and I now teach in North Carolina. So new state, new school etc. any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Colleen!

I did the interactive notebook with a binder because I hated the glue aspect, and I much preferred providing resources to my students that they could hole-punch and include in the day it was introduced.
Each day started on the back side of a page with a bell ringer or starter prompt at the top of the page. We would then add activity notes (as many pages or inserts as needed) and then wrap up with an exit prompt or task to be completed back under the bell ringer. I also always tried to make my bell ringer something personal or open and then tie it back in with the exit question, adding attention to the lesson content.
I also used quite a few prompts that allowed students to be creative (face-off, annotated timelines, illustrated journal entries, etc). My school then shifted to require all our bell ringers and exit slips look alike and be content related and some multiple choice. I hated that, but tried to modify my own style to best fit.
Here is a blog post where I offer suggestions on using the IN in the Social Studies classroom:

Hi...I purchased this awhile ago and it is great. However, I am having trouble with the powerpoint. When I try and open it, it says it needs to be repaired and when I click on it, it opens, but all the examples of motives seem to be missing. Just thought you should know.

Hi Michele,
I'm interested in the Reconstruction Response Group Activity - Road to Rights. I was wondering if you could list the topics of the slides (like a table of contents). We don't use common core in Virginia, so I'm not sure if your objectives align with mine. Thanks!

I downloaded your ancient Greek unit yesterday. From looking at what was in the zip file compared to the unit plan, it seems incomplete. For example, there doesn't seem to be any material on geography, Minoan and Mycenaean civilization.
Can you advise me how to receive this material?
November 7, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
The things you are referring to are the bellringers and exit prompts. These are oral overviews or introductions to the content to be taught or reviewed for the day, or sometimes prompts that can require student investigation. All lesson materials are included in the zip, where you should find 30 individual files with the key content, student activities, etc.
I hope this helps!

That is a very odd error message! Are you trying to open with Adobe Reader? Can you try to download and open again, making sure your chosen software is adobe? If that doesn't work, let me know and we will troubleshoot or contact the TPT tech crew.

I have a question about a particular lesson in your Progressive and WWI unit. In the third lesson, you have students completing a Primary Source Analysis Essay. But looking through that lesson and others, I am not able to find neither the questions or primary source materials. Not sure if there is a secret spot or what?
