dismic re: World War One & Russian Revolution COMPLETE UNIT for World History
Hello, I have bought this product yesterday. However, I can't find the mapping activity or the letter writing activity that is included in the lesson plan anywhere. Can you tell me where it is? Thank you
May 9, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
Hello!
Many of the activities are embedded in the Powerpoints! The mapping activity for the alliances is actually done with the MAIN Powerpoint. I usually provided a blank Europe map that students completed as we went through the lecture notes for the day's lesson. The writing activity is on the Treaty of Versailles Powerpoint.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!

These are brand new items, so they are not included in the complete unit. There are, however, many analysis activities in the unit, since I think that is one of the most important skills to be taught in a SS class!
Please feel free to email me if you have any other questions. And, if you would like me to send you the unit plan for the package, just let me know. If may help you see more of what you would receive in the package.

Hi, I am a first-year, sixth grade U.S. History teacher. I am looking for a unit on WWII. I have come across your WWII bundle and your many individual items. Your preview for the bundle didn't really tell me much about the items in the unit...what all is included? Are things like this handout and some of your others I have seen included in that unit bundle? Thanks!
May 5, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
I have different bundle sets! I have a primary source bundle for $3.20 which includes all 4 of the primary sources analysis handouts for WWII (and the same for other units). Each handout is also sold separately. You should be able to see each in the thumbnail images.
I also have complete units, which include Ppt Interactive lectures, student activities, and handouts for the entire unit. The thumbnails show the exact listing of the files you will receive, and the descriptions should summarize what will be included. The complete units do NOT, however, include the primary source bundles. They are brand new in my store, and I did not update the existing units to include them.
I also have complete semester sets available, but I'm not sure how your curriculum runs, so you would want to take a look at the units they include.
I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, you can email me at micki51769@aol.com for a quicker response! This Q&A can be a bit slow sometimes! :)

Michele - There were far more than three mistakes ... I started an e-mail in which I was going to list mistakes/ask you to make corrections, and then - due to time constraints - decided to scrap the e-mail (I did not think this "scrapped" e-mail made its way to you). My issue: $14.00 is a significant purchase on TPT, and a product priced as such should be proofed -and proofed again - and, thus, error free. This was not a professional product and not worth $14.00.

I'm sorry you are unhappy with this unit. I corrected the typos that I found in the one activity you mentioned, and re-uploaded the new files immediately following your comment and rating. I understand your position, and I do work very hard to make sure everything is error-free. The unit you purchased included 14 different files, and almost 100 pages, and I would love the specific feedback if I did not address the errors in the new upload. I also always work to make corrections, when needed, and I even make changes for teachers who request different fonts or colors in my products. As for the value of this product, it is actually very under-priced according to the suggested TpT pricing chart and would be over $40 if the products were purchased individually. With it being a bundled item, I try to give my customers a discount when buying the full units. In addition, I take everything very personally when it comes to my products and my store. This was a very well-rated (with 15 comments) product before your rating, and I had added resources to meet the requests of previous buyers (a unit plan...). With all this said, please let me know what you would like changed so I can meet your expectations. Thank you again for your feedback.

Do you mean unit packages? I do have them for my World History units and a few for U.S. History. Take a look in the "Complete Unit Sets" category on the left side in my Store. One problem I have encountered is my files are so large due to the images I include, that my unit sets go over the TpT limit!

And don't forget to email me for another $3 item! :) You may want to take a look at the end of the year items! There are games for World History and survey/evaluation forms for the last days.

Lesson 5: Luther Viewing Guide document. What is the printing press Experiential Exercise?

Where does the Protestant Reformation PPT & the Reformation Guided Notes1 PDF fit into the lessons?

Michele Luck's Social Studies
Hi Drew!
First, a question/concern... Did you get the unit plan that should be included in the zip? It may also be the preview for this product. It will have the bellringers and wrap-up assignments for each day, and will help with organizing the lessons.
As for your questions, my recommendation would be to put the Protestant Reformation Ppt and the Guided Notes before Luther. It will help them to better understand everything that happens in the beginning of the movie. It is also the core of your content on the Reformation.
The Printing Press Exercise is a crude Experiential Exercise I did with my students where I had them take notes and duplicate copies for the absent students, helping them get the idea of what it was like before the press. I used it as my intro activity to lead into the Reformation part of the unit. You could also flip 6 & 7 so they have a bit more content knowledge before doing the DBQ, or it can stay in place to have them draw more on the provided documents.
Also, the Walking Tour and the Meet & Greet will each take multiple days, so you may want to allow more time for those!
Please email me if you have any other questions!

I will look through my resources to see what I have or what links I can offer. Can you email me so I can send them easier? It's micki51769@aol.com

Thanks!

Carol,
I looked through all of my computer files, and the only one I have is quite blurry. I would be happy to send it to you through email, but again, it is blurry! I also used my textbook's blank Europe map and hand drew in the country outlines for the Cold War before I reproduced for students. I did find a few online (including one on TpT), but I could not find any marked they were public domain or providing rights information. One other suggestion - in my state, I once contacted my state Geographic Society. They sent me 5 copies of every map imaginable. While it did not provide me a blank option, I used them to have students work in groups with a map for each group and the students sketched in the borders onto the blanks I did have.
I hope this helps! Don't you just love how we teachers learn to teach what we do not have resources to cover?! We are the most adaptable profession ever! :)
This is a great activity, though, and I hope you will be able to use it with your students!
Please let me know if I can help in any other way!

I usually started my World History courses with a world religions unit (including this activity), but I can also see it as a good wrap-up to the year. It compares the major world religions and also provides great information on each. It would help students to see the many similarities and the areas of contention relating to so many historic events they will study in U.S. and have studied in World!

Hi, I bought this off you approximately at week ago and I'm still having trouble fitting it all together. There seems to be extras of some things, and then other activities are missing. I'm also having trouble matching up what you mention in the unit outline with what is in the file and power points aren't labelled by day in some cases. For example, the power point that goes with day two (which is labelled in the PPT) has an exit slip half way through, then continues on with more slides and another exit slip. The Bill Nye Ppt doesn't seem to fit into any day on the unit plan. I'm very confused! Is there anyway you could somehow email me an more detailed unit plan/outline? You've got great resources in here I just can't for the life of me untangle it. Thank you! -Erin

I have purchased and downloaded this unit, but can't seem to locate some of the materials listed in the unit in the download or in your store. For example, geography's effect of settlement activity. Am I just missing something?

Thanks
April 1, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
The topics that are not in the package or store are brainstorming activities I did at the board with students or topics that I assigned students to work on in small groups. The geography effects was an activity where I had students first brainstorm in small groups and then had them create "big paper" illustrations of the geographic changes they imagined from settlement. We then hung them up and discussed them as a class.

Is there a key for the Review Questions and the Reading Questions? Are the Review Questions prior knowledge or are in the readings?

Also, I'm a little confused where they get the "answer" to help label the map. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. :) Thanks!

Michele Luck's Social Studies
The review questions are basic geography review that would require previous knowledge or content review from a previous unit or lesson. I have also placed a student atlas at each station for students to utilize in finding the answers they do not know or remember (and in my collab classes). Many are also referenced in the readings, but not as key content.

The Reading Questions are the key content they should gather from the provided readings in the activity.

An example:
Review question: What is the name of this location? (Pointing to the Cape of Good Hope)

Reading question: Who were the "Africans" at the time of the Columbian Exchange? (Answered in reading)

And there is a powerpoint that accompanies this activity that provides all of the answers for review/wrap-up with the students at the end.

Page 8 of the power point is the beginning of the activity. The first 7 slides are introduction to the unit and a quick brain starter. As you reach slide 8, students should follow the directions provided to them regarding how they layout their paper and create the graphic organizer. As you view each event from there, they will add the event to the graphic organizer according to the directions. At the end of the ppt, you find the exit slip to assign students or to use as a wrap-up discussion prompt.
Let me know if you need any other clarification!

As for the image - This is a WPA image of one of the Electric programs initiated during the new deal. These programs brought electric service to more remote (at the time) areas and provided numerous jobs for young men in those areas. TVA is a good example.

Thanks for letting me know about this one. I thought I had included an instructions sheet separately in the zip file, but it isn't there on its own!

For the time being:
There are teacher directions on page 16 of the pdf.
The student handout is page 17 & 18 of the pdf.
Page 3 of the ppt provides the student directions for the stations.
Page 4 of the ppt provides the answers for overview at the end of the activity, but is also your guide to set up the stations.
As for as the questions and maps, they are in order in the pdf file and the name at the top (eg, "Location 3: The Americas") goes with the corresponding readings (eg. "The Americas").

I will add this to my to do list for this weekend. I'm not sure how the directions got buried in the middle???!!!!

All of my materials are very interactive and could be used with advanced middle school students as far as the level of difficulty. There are analysis activities throughout, but I taught my middle schoolers how to analyze and they did it quite well (also advanced students). My only concern is that some of the images related to the war (A-bomb) are very graphic. You could modify the "Atrocities" activity to remedy this.

For the zip, all you do is download like normal. It is a very large download, so be prepared for it to take a while depending on your internet speed. When it asks, you will "save to" whatever location you want (desktop, a folder, etc). All you should need to do after that is double click on the zip file and it will open and create a folder with the same title. All of the unit files are in individual folders within that folder. There is a unit plan within each folder to guide you through the lessons.

As for the second semester, you will need to open the file and simply follow the directions to receive the larger file. This one is double the first semester size, so you will follow the same steps, but it is just a very large file download!!!

And my email is in the file directions, so you can email me with any questions or concerns!

Ugh! Are you using a Mac or PC? I'll have to contact TpT tech people on this one! The file seems to be fine on my end. So sorry for all this, but we will get it working!

Michele

Jeffrey,

Tech support has checked the file, and it is working. They suggested you contact them for further support. It is most likely just an update issue, but they will figure it out! They are brilliant with this stuff!
Just use the contact us link at the bottom of the page and open a support ticket. Thanks again.

It would work for US or World if you teach the Great Depression and need an analysis activity for skills practice!

I saw that you just posted all of these wonderful looking handouts about the 1930's and The Great Depression. I'm teaching Angela's Ashes which takes place during that time-period. Which handout would be best to give the students some basic information about the economics of that time?
February 20, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
Hmmm... The two that address the economics the most are the "Start of..." and the "Effects of..." I've not read Angela's Ashes, though, so I'm not really sure what will fit the most. Another consideration - these are just the primary sources and guiding questions. There is very little provided reading (content) for informative purposes. If you want a more informative activity, take a look at this one!

They are not in the semester package, but I think I still have one available I could send to you. And if you take a look at my freebies you'll find a curriculum map for WS.

Hi Michele, I'm new to TPT and I've seen some of your work and absolutely love the quality. I will be teaching a night school World Studies class, (credit recovery for HS students). I would love to follow your curriculum.

What will I need to do in addition to what you have in this package to carry out the course as closely as you have? :-)

Thank you so much, I appreciate your time

Actually, everything you need for the first semester is in there from the plans to lectures to activities and more. Of course, I have many items in my store that would add to the course, such as more activities or games, but it is really all there!
It is just first semester, though. I also have second semester available. You may want to look at the units included with each to make sure you get the one that has your state requirements.

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Hi Michele! I didn't know whether to put this here or on the thread in the forum but just wanted to make sure this got to you! I've sent my materials....read AFTER I sent them about Tracee's miniaturizing idea and wish I'd thought of that! Have put some business cards on the ring holding the products plus extra ones. Hope this is helpful to you! Forgot to send the pencils I had made...argghhh! I sent my $20 through PayPal on Feb. 16, assuming it got to you ok. Don't worry about responding to this right now, unless you have a question for me, but it'd be great to hear from you (here or on forum) when you get my materials. Supposed to be there Thursday. Thanks, Michele, and I'm hoping that you're feeling well!

Hi, I just bought your Civil Rights Movement Powerpoint. It is great! One fact needs correction, though. The Montgomery bus boycott lasted for over a year. There is disagreement about the exact date the bus boycott began - some sources say it was Dec. 1st, the day of Parks' arrest, others say Dec. 2, the day the Women's Political Council called for a bus boycott, and other sources say it began the day of Rosa Parks' trial, on Dec. 5th, 1957. But in any case, it went until December 20, 1958. Just wanted to clarify. I really love both of your civil rights Powerpoints and am using them with my 5th graders. We were fortunate enough to have Dr. Terrence Roberts, one of the Little Rock Nine, come to speak to our 5th graders right after we reviewed the movement using your Powerpoint, A great day and great materials!
Thanks, Sharon

Hello, I am wondering how you get all your pictures that you include in your products. I see many of them when I do google searches. Since all the emails about copyright issues I have been hesitant to sell my own things on here or for that matter even to buy stuff. Thank you.

I use a number of websites that offer public domain images, especially the National Archives and Library of Congress. Also, any images created by the U. S., such as the WPA images by Dorthea Lange, are public domain! You can find them, but you do have to search. And I am still learning, too! There is good information out there, but it is hard to know what is correct sometimes.

February 11, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

This is the complete unit with lectures and other activities. The investigation centers is an activity that covers all the unit content, but one activity. It's great as an intro activity, a review, or as reinforcement.
If you have any other questions, please let me know! And I hope this has clarified it! :)

You may need to download from TpT again. I've had this problem myself - it seems like the download doesn't complete, and it leaves it unopen. If that doesn't work, please let me know so I can make sure we get it. Another solution may be to contact TpT support. The tech people there are far smarter than I on this stuff! :)

February 7, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Michele Luck's Social Studies
I would recommend that you take a look at the sample in the preview to determine if the reading level is appropriate. The only other concern I would have is the content. You will definitely need to eliminate some of the topics since they are not elementary appropriate (bootlegging, flappers, gangsters), but the sports, movies, cars and other topics would be fun for them. One last consideration is the new vocabulary. Much of the 20s vocabulary is new for middle and high schoolers, so you would need to address that as well.
On another note, I would love it if you would take a look at my geography scavenger hunts. There are a bunch of new ones on my 'recents' page. I posted them for 5-12, but I do not want to upset anyone if they are not grade 5 appropriate. There is also a Canada Scavenger Hunt (a little older and not as "pretty" as my new ones), and it is free to download! My newest Presidents Scavenger Hunt is also free for the coming holiday and it is also ranged 5-12! I hope it will work for you!
