TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 5 years. I taught kindergarten for 3 years. Currently, I am teaching first grade/ESOL. I have taught first grade for 2 years going on three.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use the workshop model in my classroom for writing, reading, and math. I use the reader's workshop/daily 5 approach to teach reading. My writer's workshop is based on Lucy Calkins and I also incorporate daily grammar through writer’s messages/ grammar detective. For math, I created a similar approach to the daily 5 in reading except it is called BUILD (buddy games, using manipulatives, incorporating technology and literature, learning numbers, daily practice. I teach science and social studies all day on Friday using collaborative groups, literature, and hands-on activities.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Georgia Southen University in Early Childhood Education. I completed my Master's Degree at Piedmont College in Early Childhood Education. Currently, I completed my ESOL Endorsement through Gwinnett County.
