It contains several getting to know you activities, including a bingo game, a cooperative group activity for things like "who in the group has the longest name," a paper-fight activity, which is the favorite every year, and a truth/fib activity. There are calendar pieces with a sports theme(1-31), treat bag cards sports themed, and a textbook treasure hunt where students explore their new textbooks. Hope this helps.

Hi Samantha. At the time I created this, the clip art company didn't have the images in black and white...color only. I double checked today and they do have them in line art. I would be happy to switch the images out for you and email you a copy of the new document. It'll just have to be later this evening when I get home! :-) Shoot me an email address where I can send when I get them switched out! Hope this helps! Nomonkeybusinessmichelle@gmail.com.

Hi Mary! :-) I got mine at our local Dollar Tree. They had the different shapes (moon, heart, etc.) I couldn't get them to pull up on the Dollar tree website today, BUT here's a link to a heart shape one from a different company. http://www.toptenwholesale.com/wholesale-products-heart-shaped-touch-light-p225690 Amazon had the plain ones in sets of 2 for a little more than I paid. (I found them for a dollar a piece!) Link to Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-32703-Round-Touch-2-Pack/dp/B008IBCGB4/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1364487954&sr=8-9&keywords=led+touch+lights

I have also seen them at Lowe's and Home Depot (also for a little more, but better quality) I know after teachers started buying them around here, they were scarce! I hope you have good luck!
Thanks for your Q! Hope this helps! Thanks, Mary! Michelle

Thanks for your email. That is totally my plan once I get them all made. However, I just started them in October. There's an Oct, Nov., Dec, and Jan. made, and the Feb. one will be done very soon! So since I didn't have the whole set complete yet, wasn't sure how to bundle them?! So...that being said, YES, that's the game plan in the end. Have you bought any? Let me help you out!! If you have, let me know your user name and once I verify, I'll just send you the Feb. one free as soon as I get it done! :-) If you haven't bought any but were checking on the bundle before you do, I can help you out there, too. Why don't you email me so we can work something out?! :-) Thanks again for the inquiry! Michelle nomonkeybusinessmichelle@gmail.com

I just checked my division one, and it took me 16 pages to put it together. On average it takes about 15-20 pages for each of the notebooks I have available. If you can't get the notebooks with school money and or donated (we have a business partner who helps with things like this) you could probably use copy paper and/or looseleaf notebook paper stapled together like a book with a construction paper cover or something like that.

We put the foldable together first before reading, (which got the kids really excited about diving in!) then filled it in DURING the novel. When we finished Chapters 1 & 2, for instance, they wrote the summaries for those chapters. As they thought of questions, they wrote those under "generating questions, we added vocabulary as we went along etc. Hope that helps! Let me know how it goes. It honestly was put together with a specific grade level and group of teachers at my school. They were so focused on just getting ideas down and how to put a paragraph together, that they didn't want to add "one more thing" to work on. However, it came up during their class discussion. So the teacher taught it to them anyway. :-) ***If you want me to indent the "Big Mac" for you, I'd be happy to, and shoot it to you in an email. Email address??

You could review Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and link your related foldable product at the bottom of the review. Book reviews can be short; the minimum is 200 words, so a paragraph or two. We would also link your store and your blog (if you have one) to the review. It's great exposure!

I can tell you exactly what's in it and you make that decision! :-) I will tell you that ALL the back to school themes are VERY similar with the same activities, just different clipart and style of the organizers. A fourth grade teacher in my building is using one...the Rock Star themed one. She thinks it's great for rising 4th graders because it involves some independent work, as well as some writing in cooperative groups. 1.) It contains an independent page that I have on the desks when they come in. (An All About Me) kind of page. 2.) There's a "paper fight" activity which is LOADS of fun (even for adults!) 3.) A small group activity where the kids have to interview and ask each other things & record answers. 4.( Bingo game where kids walk around and ask each other things & gather signatures 5.) An interest inventory which does involve coloring, but there's a sharing component too 6.) a textbook treasure hunt where they use their textbooks to locate specific parts of the book & record answers 7.) graph pages "Going home graph" which can be as simple as a bar graph, or more challenging like a line plot 8.) Some teacher items (calendar pieces, Binder cover, 1st day 'treat' cards 9.) A subject/predicate fun activity 10.) A couple of reflection type pages where students write thoughts about the year.
When people typically ask or as the product is displayed, I tell them it's best for grades 2-4.

Where do I start? I have games I"ve created using googleimages, but I believe they are copyrighted and expensive, so what do I use for pictures, graphics, etc...?

Can you use free clip art? Do you always zip a file and send when you have more than one page or can I just send all 15 pages attached together as one document?

Thanks, I appreciate your consideration in answering my questions.

Okay, my suggestion is NOT to use any images you find on google. MOST of that is copyrighted, even when you THINK it isn't. There are many clipart companies that DO allow you to sell on TpT. (Scrappindoodles, Whimsy Doodles, DigiWeb Studio, etc.) There is a huge amount of discussion on this very topic in the TpT FORUM. Go there and you can click on MANY conversations about where to find clipart. Some require a fee, others do not. I have even heard there's a document (FREEBIE) created that has a LIST of all these clipart companies on them, but I can't remember who has it in their store. You could do a search for that document and that would save you some time. Shoot me your email and if I find that document in the next few days, I'll just email it to you. I think I even downloaded it at one point. My email: nomonkeybusinessmichelle@gmail.com I'll be honest, though, clipart CAN be very expensive no matter where you buy it!
Some of my items are zipped because they are SO LARGE to upload to TpT. Others are not. But they're still ALL together in one document. They are simple .pdf files that you can upload. For example, create a unit in a word document, then save as a .pdf file and upload it.
Hope this helps.

The Reading/Language bundle comes with 4 games...Homophones, Pronouns, Verb tense, and the Reading game...which is ONE game, but includes questions on a variety of reading topics. (main idea/detail, context clues, author's purpose, sequencing, cause/effect, and multiple meaning words) If you purchased something you ALREADY have, can you shoot me an email with specifics...I just want to make sure I completely understand what happened. In other words, email me a list of what games you DO HAVE and if you accidentally bought one MORE than once. I would be happy send you some additional things...I have a variety of other Road Runner games too, that maybe you don't have that I will send you. I don't want anybody accidentally paying DOUBLE for something. My email is nomonkeybusinessmichelle@gmail.com In the meantime, I will check my purchased list from you and see if I can't figure it out too! :-) Thanks and we'll get it straightened out! Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I am loving your pirate theme for back to school. What did you use as the first day of school treat with that theme? I saw that you used goldfish with the ocean theme.

Thanks...

I made that unit for a friend and she ordered the "gold chocolate coins" you can get in bulk. There are even bubble gum coins. I honestly think the bubble gum coins are available on Oriental Trading. She couldn't remember where she got the chocolate ones, but google it and you should get lots of options. We're not allowed to serve "candy" AT our school, SO we just send the treat bags HOME with them that first day! :-) Some other thoughts might be (those candy necklaces, ring pops...anything like candy jewelry.)

I, too, am unable to save this file so I can use it later. It is asking me for a password as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just ordered this notebook. I am concerned with how to make the colored copies without the download. It will be costly to go to a copy store to do this. Can you include the unit on a CD when you ship it?

Thank you!

I wish, I wish, I wish! I truly do! I made these notebooks awhile back using the clipart that they contain before I was ever on TpT...and then I wanted to offer them on TpT. The clipart company, however, has a very strict policy to NOT offer them on anything digital...CD's, downloadable .pdf files, etc. I can't tell you how difficult it is (and expensive for me as well) to even keep up with these as printable documents to mail, but it's what I have to do, so am very up front about that part of it. It has to come as "pages" and not anything else. The good news?? I am TRYING desperately to eventually get these OFF the hard copies list and use different clipart so that I can just put them online for people to download. It's so much easier for everyone. But until I can complete the unit and/or find all the right clipart, it's just not going to happen. :-( If you're still interested I would be happy to mail to you. If not, I would be happy to cancel the order. I understand your concerns. Just please email me your preference. nomonkeybusinessmichelle@gmail.com

Thanks for your rich resources! Your free "Recap" Closure Activities downloads fine, but I am unable to save it. I get a prompt asking for the owner password. I have had no problem downloading and saving other resources. Any helpful ideas?

Stephanie,
Let me look into this. Not sure what the problem is. If you can download it to your computer, I'm trying to figure out why you're trying to save it. ? If it's downloaded, you should be able to drag it anywhere you want (files, folders, etc.) It's a .pdf file, so it can't be altered. That's a requirement that comes from the clipart companies to protect their images. However, if it's easier, shoot me an email nomonkeybusinessmichelle@gmail.com and remind me to just EMAIL it to you. We'll see if that will help! :-) I want you to be able to put it where you want it. :-) Michelle

Michelle, I teach in a virtual classroom. I just downloaded your Let's Recap. I actually made an adaption of it for virtual teaching that I would like to send to you to review and, if you like, please offer it as an addition to your original. I am a middle school teacher and with a little tweaking this can be adapted to the grade and virtual teaching. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
PS I'm fairly new to TPT and I can't seem to figure out where to rate this! Thanks.

Hi Tiffany!
Glad they got there okay. I always tell people the key to notebooking is use those as a guide, but make them your own! Let your students make them their own too! I've got you on my list to look and try out my math one (if I can ever finish it!) Ha! :-) Thanks again,
Michelle

Is there any way you could make a back to school monkey/jungle theme for 4th grade?

There is a monkey/jungle theme one already made! I have a monkey/jungle theme in my own classroom so I use it every year. It's suitable for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. If there's something specific about it you're not sure about and/or see something you think you'd like a little different, specifically for your class, email me with details and I'd be happy to see what I can do. Should be marked on the item where you can preview. I'll double check it though. It was designed for 3rd graders, but there have been some 2nd grade teachers that are going to use and modify some, and I have several 4th grade teachers that are using some of the back to school packs.

I have been looking through all your back to school units. I really like this one the best ~ my question is like the other back to school units have you come up with a "message card" along with a treat? Thanks so much for your time! :)

Yes!! This one has one too. They all do! I randomly pick pages to preview, and I guess I must not have put that in a preview page. It's there. Feel free to download my freebie "Treat Toppers" packet too! There's a monkey topper in there that would also be cute with the message cards in the back to school pack! Hope this helps. Thanks for your question.

Hey. I LOVE the giraffe book. I purchased it. On the pages with giraffe tags and numbers....is it possible to type on them?

I'm glad you love it!! You can't actually type on any of the pages yourself because the document is a .pdf file. This protects the work of the author. However, if you need me to add to something or change something, I have the original, and would be more than happy to try to make it exactly what you'd like! Then I would re load it to TpT and you can download the updated version. Doesn't cost you a thing to re download. I could just send you a message when it's been edited and uploaded again. Email me any specific instructions and I'll see what I can do to help! :-) Michelle nomonkeybusinessmichelle@gmail.com

Hi Michelle,
We are starting out school next year with a mice theme using Keven Henkes books along with other mice books. If you have clip art, I would love to see a mouse theme back to school unit. Thanks for all you do! Love your items.
