I Love your Moustache measuring cards. I noticed that you noted that the rulers are not to scale. They are actually cm rulers. If you were to change your recording sheet to say cm then the rulers would be to scale. Just a suggestion

Brittney B. re: *Persuasive OREO Writing* Poster/Graphic Organizer/Prompts
Since we've changed over to the common core standards, we no longer teach persuasive writing in 2nd grade. Is there anyway that you could change this from saying persuasive to opinion? I don't want to confuse my students but I still want to use the oreo template.

Hi Brittney - I'll look into adding an opinion attachment at the end of this unit within the next few days. However, although Persuasive writing is under the umbrella of Opinion writing -- not everything would be applicable (like the "persuasive phrases" section).
Keep posted!!! :-)

Is there a way that you can make a packet of "teacher binder covers", mixing the colors? I like to have different colors/styles for each of my subjects. (Otherwise I have to buy all the bundles, just to use one subject.) It would also be amazing if you could make the front be a side of the binder label. THANKS!

Hi Rebecca,
I have a few new products in the making right now and I'll try to get to creating a bundled binder cover product asap. As the three sets are only $2.50, in a bundled version, you'd probably save about $1.
Also, spines are already available for all 3 sets. :-)

Michelle Tomaszewski  (TpT Seller)
I'll look into it :-) ...but in the meantime, the decoding strategies covered in this pack are: "break/chunk the word" - "try again" - "stretch the sounds" - "say the sounds" - "look at the pictures" ...while the comprehension strategies are: "predict" - "question" - "clarify" - "summarize" - "make connections" - "visualize". Hope that helps! :-)

I like the format you used to create this resource. It's easy to follow and implement with my older kids who need practice, but I was wondering if you would consider making the same product using real pictures rather than cartoons? I work as an ESOL teacher, and it would be easier if they could see real-world/concrete examples.

I would LOVE to, however given copyright laws on photographs, I would have to purchase a photographer's rights (which is typically over $100 per photo) to his/her photos in a product I'm selling.

Maybe one day, I'll invest in a nice camera and take the photos myself!

How big are the picture cards for the sorting games? is the preview accurate that shows 16 per page, or are there bigger cards included in the packet? thanks.

Michelle Tomaszewski
Michelle Tomaszewski  (TpT Seller)
There are a few different activities with different sized cards.

The "Memory Match Game" (seen in the preview) has 16 cards per page (within 3 pages). This activity has color graphics of the word along with the word.

Then, there is a "Match Sort Game" with 10 cards per page (within 11 pages). These are in black + white and simply have the word with a blender graphic. Students will find words with the same blends. This activity also comes with recording sheets.

Finally, there is a "Write it & Wipe it Activity" with 2 cards per page (within 63 pages). The graphics are in color in students will fill in the missing blend (I suggest you laminate these cards & students can just write in dry-erase markers). THEN, there are another 63 pages with the same graphics, but students have a more challenging option of having the consonant blend - but having to fill in the remaining letters in the word.

Thanks for your interest! :-)

I did read your description. It's just that I don't consider beginning and endings as risks. I am looking for things like similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, alliteration, and hyphenated modifiers.

Michelle Tomaszewski  (TpT Seller)
Those risks will be provided in future packs -- I have it on the agenda, I'm just fighting against time! SO, in the case, stay posted! :-) Surprisingly, many students don't know how to construct a good beginning or ending. One type of beginning, for example, is dialogue... How interesting may a story be if it begins with:
"I cannot believe you just said that!" ...... {to be continued}

Hi Michelle, I recently purchased your "blending with consonant blends" file. I think it is so awesome- my kiddos are going to be so excited to practice. One quick question- I am having a difficult time sending it to our OP's team to get printed in color? It is a really big file and I was wondering if you had the separate sections in separate files so I could print it? If you do please let me know- otherwise it is okay! I just cannot connect to a color printer and want those cute graphics in color! Let me know if you can help!

Since there is limited room on one sheet of paper, I'd suggest doing a double sided sheet of a 10 word + 10 word (for 20 words) or 10 word + 15 word (for 25 words). Otherwise, there wouldn't be much room to exercise the activities. :-)

Does this sound feasible?

Also looking at laurenfairclough's request for the same product for 'blends' ss, ff, zz - these are not final blends, but examples of the 'floss rule'. Yet your response did not note her misunderstanding. Your products seem terrific - but we all have to be on the same page in terms of phonic terms.

Hi Judy,
Although she called them "blends", I understood her comment in requesting a pack of those endings...and therefore when I responded, I wrote, "I don't have anything with those ending sounds, but I will certainly look into making it!!! Keep posted! :-)". I did not find it polite to directly correct her in such a way, therefore called them "sounds" in my response. I appreciate your concern and if you do purchase my products, I hope you enjoy them.
Thank you.

Michelle - this is not a question but a comment. I take offense at your description of a blend - two letters mixed together which represent one sound. That is NOT accurate. The letters in a blend retain their sounds - they represent separate sounds as in slug (4 sounds) and crash (4 sounds), and splat (5 sounds). Each letter stands for one sound - as opposed to consonant digraphs, where two letters DO represent one sound - ch, th, wh, sh - or vowel digraphs - ee, oa, etc. I hope that you will rewrite your description as it is giving novice teachers wrong information about the code. Thanks. Judy

Michelle Tomaszewski  (TpT Seller)
Hi Judy,
I apologize that you were offended. I have both consonant blend and consonant digraph packs and within those packs, they both address the difference between the two terms, as you mentioned. A blend has two distinguishable sounds, as you said. For example, the word place has 4 phonemes /p/ - /l/ - /a/ - /s/ ...however my reasoning for saying "one sound" is that when we are teaching blends, we are teaching students to blend & say two phonemes /p/ - /l/ together, as in /pl/. In my pack, I give an example of cereal + milk... they are mixed together and still distinguishable parts. Then, for digraphs, I give the example of chocolate milk: once they are mixed together, they make something completely new... as in /ch/ - completely new sound, that doesn't sound like "c" or "h". Again, I apologize if you were offended by my wording, but I believe we are indeed on the same page.

Michelle G. re: Owl Themed Whole Brain Teaching Classroom Rules
Is it possible to change the rules to the follow:
1. Listen and obey the first time directions are given.
2. Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat during instructional time.
3 Respect your teachers and your classmates.
4. Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself.
5. Be kind in word and action.
6. Always do your best.
Also including a "Our Classroom Rules"
Thanks.
