This looks fantastic. I teach at a boys catholic school in a country town in Australia. They are students that are doing there senior years with a vocational focus (going to be builders and other trades) and only have three days at school. In this time I teach 2 x double classes of maths! Geee this sure will be a hoot! They will love it!

Both student worksheets are shown in the preview pages so that the buyer will understand exactly what they are getting. The purpose of the lesson is to have students use string to measure the circumference and diameter of different circles so that they discover pi (3.14...) on their own.

I would think so. It involves determining the area of a rectangle and then the volume of a rectangular prism and cylinder. I don't see why you could not use metric units instead.

I have a question similar to blaramie...will there be other modules? I'm looking at implementing this program now as well as next year. I would want more basic level skills for incoming 7th graders as well as additional 7th grade skills. (For example whole number one-step equations, mixed integer operations, etc.) Would you consider selling a editable format? This is an incredible program, and I am happy to have purchased it. I am just hoping for a more budget-friendly addition to what I've already got. Thanks!

As I mentioned in my reply to blaramie (completed moments ago) I do not have present plans for more Speed Skill modules but if I feel there is a need I may at some point add to them. I like your ideas for future modules.
Speed Skills took me a number of months to complete with the 4,000 problems that are included as well as all of the supporting documentation, graphs, individual statistics, and so on.
I would not offer an editable format because my name and brand are on Speed Skills and I need to protect the quality and be aware of all of the content.
Thanks for you complement in calling Speed Skills "an incredible program." I enjoy using Speed Skills in my own classroom and it is fun to know that others will also benefit from the program. Just yesterday I finished the "Two-Step Equation" module with two of my classes.
Have a great end to the school year!

I just purchased your Speed Skills e-book, and I'm very excited about getting started with it. As I teach 6th grade, some of the skills are not in my "must cover" curriculum. My question...is there a possibility you will be making any more speed skill modules? I am interested in basic multiplication an division facts, simplifying fractions, improper fractions to mixed numbers, equivilant fractions, simplifying ratios, and probably many more I can't think of now (more skills for 5th-6th grade level). Also, I was wondering if you ever repeat modules throughout the year (and any advice you have on how you plan that). Thank you for any information you can give me. There is a big yellow and red box on the right hand side of every page on my website, www.digitallesson.com. I know that some schools have filters that will not allow a subscription box to show up. If this is the case you will need to sign up from home and perhaps use your home email address instead of your school address.

I love this lesson and my 6th grade students are really enjoying it too, but I'm confused on the "Project Terms Transparency." The measurements are not the same as the ones on the "Grading Template." Am I missing something? I'm also curious if you have other projects similar to this. I have students requesting more. :)

The purpose of the "Project Terms Transparency" is to give students access to the vocabulary that they need for the project. For instance, when it says "the top of the house wall" in the directions students can look at the project terms sheet. The sheet does not give the real dimension answers. It also shows students how to correctly label the measurements on the project and reminds them which direction is length and which is width in this project. I usually give a copy to each student to keep in their project folder so that I don't have to project it all period long.
I have a number of other projects which you can either find on TPT at my Middle School Math store or by visiting my own website at www.DigitalLesson.com.

Thank you for your response. I believe that you are correct and that they will fit well with the new CCSS, I'm just not sure at what grade level they are going to fit. Some of the examples I have looked at appear to work with 6th grade, but I don't teach 6th grade. I think I will ponder this a little longer. Thanks for your question. I have not yet correlated this eBook with the new CCSS, partly because my own school district is not going to full implementation until 2 years from now. Several teachers have told me that they are looking forward to using the activities, lessons, and projects when they implement the common core. The preview pages can be downloaded and they clearly show what skills are being covered with each activity. Sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer yet. My sense is that because the Common Core does more application, activities, and problem solving that the eBook should fit in well.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have taught middle school for over 20 years and have specialized in Mathematics, specifically 6th Grade Math and Pre-Algebra. I have been a district Math Mentor Teacher, the Mathematics Department Chairman numerous times, and have presented at several local and regional mathematics conferences.
MY TEACHING STYLE
I always try to find the balance between learning the prescribed mathematical standards and putting them into practice in meaningful, hand-on activities. Students need to know the grade-level skills, but I also want them to experience mathematics in a personal, powerful, experiential way. My math lesson, projects, and games are designed to promote these meaningful student interactions with mathematics.
