Thanks so much for the reality check. I should have thought a bit longer about my question. It is my first year back in the classroom after 10 years "downtown" and so many things have changed. As a Specialist in a Special Ed. field I not only need to keep current in my field but need to brush-up on my classroom skills as I deliver all subjects to a classroom of Kinders and Firsts. I will look more closely at our states Science Curriculum and hopefully this Unit will fit well into it. Thanks again!

Hello :). The Common Core Standards have not been released for science. Math and ELA are the only subjects that have been released to date. You can find more information about CCSS at http://www.corestandards.org/
This unit was based around my own state's standards for first grade (Ohio), It covers general motion and force concepts that are typically found in other states and grade levels. It is definitely appropriate for first graders and first grade science. :)

I purchased the one you said that they could be used earlier in the year. However, I am using them for RTI. I tested my students on the first 100 fry words and they knew most of them all. Hello, thank you for your questions. The nouns are not included in this pack. The only words included are the preprimer through third grade Dolch words, as stated. The preview includes the first story, and the rest of the passages are similar. If you believe the first story to be too difficult for your students, I would suggest waiting to purchase this. My struggling readers have made immense growth with this. Each story has the word total at the bottom for teachers to mark words read if they are timing them, but there is not a single tracking sheet. The preview download will further explain all that is included. I hope this helps. :)

I think that would be appropriate. Again, you'll want to check your grade level standards and see if adaptation exists in yours. if not, you can focus on a standard that deals with scientific process.
Students will demonstrate an understanding that penguins and other polar animals use blubber to survive in their environment by completing a science experiment and sharing their observations through drawing and writing.
Is this along the lines you're thinking? I hope this helps. The lab report will allow your students to show their understanding of how animals survive. Good luck! :) Student teaching is such an exciting time!! :)

My husband and I LOVE the Portage Lakes area! We've spent time at Dano's and have watched it transform over the years. Wow, what a drive from PLX to Rittman! My Dad used to live in Rittman and it isn't an easy drive, especially in the winter! How have you enjoyed TPT as a seller? I think about it but am not sure how to get started?

If not, upload the Adobe and that usually fixes everything. :) To download the preview, just click on Download Preview which is the button right below Multiple Purchases. My little kiddo was struggling to find the sight word "find." I finally figured out it wasn't in the story! :) It is fixed now. Thank you SO much for your purchase and support. :)

Hello! Thank you so much for your question. The unit does not contain any dictated lesson plans. The activities and experiments include directions and activity sheets. In this way, you can design your lesson plan according to your students needs. I have found this allows for teachers to use the activities in their own creative way. :) Thank you so much!! :)

Would you consider making a editable pdf? I need word problems that have larger numbers. We have been using yours in class, but I teach 4th grade math so I eventually need to transition them into larger numbers.

I will be making an advanced word problem pack in the future with three digit addition and subtraction and two digit multiplication/division.
