How much writing or information do you require for all the sections? Do you require all the sections or allow them to pick and choose?
Sorry for the bombardment of questions, but I really like this project and my students like clear instructions.

I usually have them complete this project in small groups of 4 and I scatter Maya, Aztec, and Inca among those groups. For example, one group of 4 creates a Maya newspaper with each student completing 2-3 different articles each. I have done this project with both paper and PowerPoint. On paper, the students have used 8.5x11 paper for their articles (some typed articles, some did by hand) and then they pasted them on large butcher paper that I had cut out for them from the office (so it looked like a real newspaper, folded in the middle, about the same size). Now that my students each have a netbook, I've had them complete this project on PowerPoint slides and merge their slides into one presentation at the end to make it an "online newspaper". I require at least 50-100 words for each article (50 for example, for weather, 100 for a front page news article). I require each article to have at least one picture. I require all of the sections and allow them to choose in their groups, or I've also had them pick out of a bag to make it random and fair. :) Hope this clarifies! Enjoy! :)

I usually have them take Cornell Notes or any type of notes could be fine. I don't have a student sheet for this one. Another thing I've tried is to have them draw a picture or comic for the PowerPoint I'm showing to them--something a bit more visual to help them remember it.

I am working at "Flipping" my class and would like for my students to be able to do to the power point at home with the notes. Can I post this power point and notes for students in their folder?

On your Persuasive Essay - Revision Worksheet, does it have anything beyond the "Draw a wavy line under the call to action?" It seems, even in the thumbnail, that the chart is open at the bottom. Not a big deal, just want to make sure there isn't anything else that is supposed to appear next. I see nothing where one might total up or work to assess an essay as a whole. Certainly it leaves it open for suggestions that could be written on the back of the page.

Comments and suggestions can be added in the right-hand column under each rating, but definitely the back could be used for more reflection. This sheet is mainly used to help the student revise their essay for a final grade and that is why it doesn't include a final grade section, but feel free to modify! :)

I'm very disappointed with this because it is in PDF form. It did not include a listing of all roots and vocab words in a usable format (such as Word or Excel). It included a space for a 10 word spelling test, but didn't explain what words would be included in the spelling test. I would like to take that part out, but because I can't edit the PDF file, I will have to recreate the sheet, rather than just edit the sheet. I wish I hadn't purchased this file. IS it possible for you to give this to me as a Word document?

The reason it is in PDF form (which--the forma--is always displayed on the each product before you purchase it), is because I had to take paper copies of each list/test and scan them into a copier to create ONE PDF file in order to sell it together as a unit. At the time, I did not have a way to merge all the files together digitally. I created these lists over 10 years ago, so I'm not sure if I have Word documents to send to you, but I will definitely check on my computer at school, as soon as I get to school tomorrow. Also, to clarify the tests...I would have students study all 20 words on the list and inform them that half of the words they would be tested on for spelling and the other half for definitions--but I wouldn't tell them which 10 for spelling and which 10 for definitions. That way they studied all words for spelling and definitions. Then, on the test itself, the bottom half includes half of the words already for matching words to definitions. Therefore, the other half of the words on the list (that are NOT in the matching section) they would be tested on for spelling (that should explain the 10 blank spaces). To be honest, I've been creating assignments/lessons on my own since I started teaching 12 years ago and now I've just found a way to get paid for it all! ;) I try to be really descriptive when I post things to sell and try to comment on each customer's purchase when they leave a comment or rating. I also take suggestions into account and constantly revise my products to please the buyers. I try to post a new product at least once a month too, so that my followers are informed and reminded of my products too. Hope this helps! :) Good luck to you too!

I have tried to use my MAc and PC to view the PPT and it isnt working at all.
I have the PPt pprogram and when I open up the page all get is the image that is
on the Teahcerspayteachers site. Just the ipad image with activities. If there are
more slides I can usually see them on the PPT program. This one shows nothing but that first slide. If you could help me out here and let me know what I can do, i would appreciate that.

The PowerPoint presentation is only one slide. Once you play the slideshow, on the one slide there are "apps", which you should then be able to click on as they are hyperlinks to web sites online with educational games/activities. I just downloaded the PowerPoint from TPT and tested it out and it worked fine. I've also had my students download this PowerPoint on their netbooks and it worked fine for them too. Thanks for asking! :) No, this doesn't include the themes worksheets for students and answer keys. However, it does include a list of possible themes for each of the chapters. The student theme worksheet I had created and added later, so it's not in this unit right now. I also haven't provided further teacher instructions as I'd like to keep the pacing up to the teachers that use this product. I feel that each worksheet/project includes clear enough instructions for the student and the teacher to use it effectively. I wish I knew specifically what further instructions were necessary, and then I might be able to modify it to meet certain people's needs.

Hi. I made the mistake of giving this dialogue paper out before I read it over completely. There are several mistakes that need fixing. On the first page #3 should read, "I feel like going FOR a walk."
#5 should read, "Amanda said as SHE passed Maggie.
#6 stomach ache should be two words, not one.

I apologize for the mistakes. I had caught a couple of the mistakes as I used this worksheet in my classroom and forgot to edit the sheet on TPT. So, thank you for alerting me of this and I have now edited the first two mistakes. However, I did not change the word "stomachache" as it is an actual word and I checked two dictionaries just to be sure. Here is one source with the correct spelling:

I don't have an answer key created by myself for the student packet, however, I DO have an A+ copy of a student's student packet (which can serve as an answer key). I will make a copy of that, include my answer key for the test, and RE-UPLOAD the file as a larger PDF file, so that you can go back to your purchases and download the revised file with answer keys. I will have that uploaded for you by the end of this week, but you should get a notice when I upload the revised file as well. So glad to help and enjoy! :)

Hi, I went back to this product and the PowerPoint worked and opened fine for me. The "Back to School Social Activity PowerPoint" was initially a PowerPoint file, so I'm not sure what you meant about opening it via Adobe Reader as a PDF. However, I went ahead and made the product into a PDF file instead of a PowerPoint and uploaded it again as the same product. You should be able to go into your "My Purchases" at the top of the TPT screen and download it again as a PDF for free. Hope this helps! :) I apologize for any confusion, but in the future, if you plan to purchase an item of mine with "PowerPoint" in the title, be sure to have PowerPoint accessible to open it. I have been teaching grades 7 and 8 Language Arts and Social Studies at De Anza Academy of Technology & the Arts in Ventura, California since 2001. I have also briefly taught high school ESL (grades 9-12), and I spent one month teaching English in Moscow, Russia.

On September 7, 2011, I received the honor of "Teacher of the Month" (nominated by my principal through the Ventura Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation). I was given certificates from the senator, house of representatives, and county representatives along with several generous gifts from community organizations. I have also been serving as the department chair and English Language Arts District Liaison since 2003. I have also served as a Mentor to first and second year teachers. I have also had the responsibility as Technology Peer Coach and GATE Liaison.
