Do your lessons start out very simple as in teaching the students how to write a good complete sentence? My students did not have very much teaching on writing last year so their writing right now is very bad...lol:-) Also, I was just curious how do you help your kids with spelling? When we do a journal write, it seems like they are constantly asking me how do I spell.... Do you have a classroom management procedure in place for this?

The lessons do start out simple. I tell my students they must ask 3 before me, look on our word wall, or ask someone else before they come up to me. I have actually made a small folder board where when a student asks me to spell a word, I write it down and they use it and put it in the correct folder that corresponds with the correct beginning letter. This is the first year I have done this, so I will know more in June. LOL Good luck..

I am very interested in your packet. I was wondering- is there a lot of mini lessons where you have to have the specific book? I can't tell much from the preview- I do like some ideas for books to read - but I also don't want to have a bunch of lessons that I don't have the book for. I hope that makes sense!

Many of them do require books to read, but you could always substitute books for the same lesson. I tried to put a better preview in it, but it was way too massive! LOL Hope this makes sense...

I teach third grade and am going to teach writing with 6-traits of writing. This will be my first year to teach with this curriculum. Will this packet be very helpful and useful? Our group of kids have not had a lot of writing instruction except for journal writing.

Absolutely...If you follow it, it all will fall into place and I think you will make lifelong writers and learners. My students love writing. I use stories that I read to them to get them thinking and make a connection. I hope it will help you, I use it yearly and change/add to my lessons. Thanks for asking...
