Such a fun idea! I love how it motivates students to read during the summer. They are so excited to collect the different badges! I put the cover on card stock to make it more durable. Just a suggestion, I wanted them to read 1500 minutes during the summer, so I added another page to their passport where they colored in a picture for every 15 minutes they read. Then, once they finish the WHOLE passport, they can give it to me to get a prize. Thanks again!

Hi there, I'd like to ask a favour - can you create a Canadian version of this guide? We spell 'color' with a 'u', and would like to give this guide to my Grade 2 students, but can't really see handing it out for parents to read with 'color' spelled the non-Canadian way. :)

What grade? With third graders, I would give a full week of class days to choose the animals and exhibits, figure out the area and perimeter, complete the planning sheets, and make the blue print. I was teaching a gifted/advanced class at the time. Then, I gave the students a week to complete the larger scale map at home. Hope this helps!

I used them for homework...when students had all their homework for the day, they got a punch. When they filled up the card, it turned into one night if no homework. I know some people use them for behavior like when students have a great day, they get a punch. Here is a link to some of the rewards I've used. More Than a Worksheet (TpT Seller)
The easiest way to find the perimeter is to draw the exhibit. The lion exhibit for example must be 200 sq. feet in area. Since each square is 10 square feet, it needs to take up 20 squares. There are several ways to make 20...the exhibit could be 10x2, 4x5, 20x1, or it could be a unique pattern that students come up with that isn't an array, all part of the fun :) But let's say you do the 4x5 array. Just count the perimeter and it would be 18 units. (Not feet, since each unit is 10 square feet, you would get a decimal).
I am so glad you asked this because now I realize it would be easier to figure out if each square was 100 square feet instead of 10. I am going to edit it. Thank you!
