You will need the book. I couldn't include them in the PowerPoint without copyright issues. A link is here:

Good Morning!
Thank you for buying the Reading for Informational Text! I think you will be very pleased with the worksheets and the student "hands-on" part. When you try to save it- it should pop up a box that says "read only". If you click that, everything should work. Please e-mail me any other question or problems at:

Good Day! I understand that if a principal walks into your room for an observation and sees children having fun and playing board games- they might be concerned that learning is NOT taking place. BUT IT IS! If you need to put something in your lesson plan to justify the children doing this game- copy and paste the following and let me know if I can help in any other way!

Why is this game important?

Successful reading requires being able to identify written words and know what those words mean. In recent years, an improved understanding of the skills that underlie reading words and techniques that successfully teach those skills have led to better word reading and better comprehension of written text in first grade.

Unfortunately, learning to read written texts is not the same as learning to understand written texts. It is a problem that many children who successfully learn to read in grade one or two are nonetheless unable to understand books they need to read by grade three or four. The main reason for this is a lack of adequate vocabulary (Becker, 1977; Chall, Jacobs, & Baldwin, 1990; Chall & Conard, 1991; Lescaux & Kieffer, 2010; Scarborough, 2001; Silverman & Crandall, 2010; Spira, Bracken, & Fischel, 2005; Storch & Whitehouse, 2002). The National Reading Panel (2000) has identified vocabulary as one of five key aspects of literacy.

While North American teachers have become more effective at teaching students to read words, we have virtually ignored the impact of teaching students to understand words, especially in the primary grades. There is evidence that a year of kindergarten, grade one, or grade two typically adds nothing to a child's vocabulary (Cantalini, 1987; Christian, Morrison, Frazier, & Massetti, 2000; Morrison, Smith, & Dow-Ehrensberger, 1995). Consequently, vocabulary is primarily determined by the words learned from parents and neighborhood friends. Not surprisingly, students from advantaged homes learn two or three times as many words as children from disadvantaged homes where many fewer words are used (Hart & Risley, 1995; White, Graves, & Slater, 1990). These findings suggest the importance of improving vocabulary instruction in primary grades.

Vocabulary size has an impact throughout the life span. Students with inadequate vocabularies are at a much higher risk of performing poorly in high school, community college, or university (Hazenberg & Hulstijn, 1995; Cunningham & Stanovich, 1997). The source of these difficulties occurs very early in life (Rowe, Raudenbush, & Goldin-Meadow, 2012). Young children with relatively small vocabularies comprehend less well. Because they comprehend less well, they often choose to read less. Over time students who read less acquire smaller vocabularies and comprehend less in later years (Stanovich, 1986). Children with smaller vocabularies will continue to lag behind children with larger vocabularies. Instead of being taught the necessary language, children with small vocabularies are often misdiagnosed as having a reading disability (Biemiller, 2010).

Just purchased your European Capitals Board Game. The board says that you're supposed to answer questions, but there are no questions. Are you intending for a country card to be turned over and they name the capital? Also, how many of the dollar pages do you suggest printing? Thank you!

Good Day! Yes, the Captials board Game is more of a matching game than in depth questions about Europe. You can find the game type that I think you are looking for here:
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Europe-Geography-and-History-Board-Game

It is a little more expensive than the 1 game but has the more in-depth questions you might find useful.

I would copy 10 pages of money-bucks pages.

Thank you for your questions and thoughts!

Merry Christmas! I just went and re-uploaded it again - I didn't see any pages that went missing, but with computers, it is always possible. The questions begin on page 8 and go through 21. The children ask each other about the vocabulary and answer the definition. If it still doesn't download- please let me know, and I will contact "Teachers Pay Teachers". You can always send me your e-mail and I will send you the copies directly. I'm very sorry that you had trouble with the download.

Good Morning!
Great question and thank you for asking.

The answers and questions are in blocks next to each other. Two things can be done.

One, the person who asks the questions can see both question and answer. The group gets to think of the answer but only the person asked the question gets to answer.

If the question is answered correctly- place that question in a different stack.

If the question is answered wrong- put the question and answer at the bottom of the question stack to be asked again! This encourages others to pay attention to the question because it might be asked again.

For a low group, a question answered wrong- I would read the right answer- reinforcing the idea and then put the question at the bottom of the stack to be asked again.

If it is a high group- I would not read the answer if the student gets the question wrong. This is personal preference and you can do as you think best for your students.

The other idea is to fold the question cards where the question in on one side and the answer is on the other. After the student makes an answer- see if it is right or wrong by flipping it over.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions - PLEASE ask! Have a blessed day!

Thank you for your prompt response. Our classroom actually has a class set of the CRCT test prep books. The ones I have are from 2008. I have used them to help with some of my lessons. Thank you for your help. We are waiting for our technology to be hooked up...you know how that goes. It could be a while. We are on a new floor and so we are without a lot right now. Needless to say, we dont have computers for my grade at the moment. I am doing the best I can to get the GPS across.
Thanks again for your info. Please feel free to give me any more you may have!

I can tell that you are an outgoing person who is striving to make the classroom interesting AND connected to the world. Your students will really enjoy you this year. I live in Tifton and so Albany is just around the corner from me. I know the strife and worries that the system has been under, and I continue to pray for all the faculty, students, and parents involved. May you have the most wonderful and exciting year ever!

Do you have any specific plans, games, worksheets, or other suggested materials you would encourage a brand new 7th grade SS teacher to purchase? I am in Albany, GA. I have little guidance and am just finding my way throuh using standards and a very lackluster text book! I have yet to get the technology in my room that I need to engage the kids. (i.e. no promethean board connected, no computer...)

I can tell you EXACTLY what you need to do! It will cost you a little money- but your scores with SHINE! Clairmont Press!!!!! Go to this site: http://www.clairmontpress.com/crct.html

They have the right depth of subject for Georgia- the right questions for the CRCT. If you are starting out- this will start you out with people who are way ahead. As a teacher- this is THE thing that your system needs. Forget about those Coach books. They're nice near the end- but these prep books with help you TEACH the GPS! Hummm, no computer or projector? I feel for you on those. Look up "Trashketball" and do that in class with questions. Also, do you have a computer lab? www.quia.com is super fun and has activities that you create - like "Rags to Riches". Look that one up too. Also, Gallopade workbooks are something that is neat for Georgia teachers. Hope this info helps!

Hello,
Is the lack of punctuation and capitalization intentional? Also, there is a type-o on the card that asks why a woman tells Bud he is going to be a criminal. Did you use the game in a classroom setting? If you have a corrected or editable version, I would consider purchasing.
Thanks,
Bridget

Great question! I use to make previews for most of the early games, but few looked at them. Since my games follow the same format, I think many people downloaded the free product. That link is here http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Holy-Bible-Board-Game

I saw your store on the home page of Teachers Pay Teachers; so, I thought I would look at your freebie. I left you a rating. Well done!

I have a couple of suggestions that might help you to better market this product. First, create a cover page which can then be used as an attractive thumbnail to entice buyers. You might also add a second page which is a directions or suggestions page. List several ways you use this product. Never assume that a buyer knows how, why, or when to use your product. Use the footer to put the copyright symbol, your name and date of creation on EVERY page. Items, especially free ones, have been "stolen" from TPT and posted on other sites to be sold. You have to protect all of your creations.

I know you aren't teaching math, but I’d appreciate your input on my math freebie listed below. I like input from a variety of teachers.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

LICENSES Middle Grades Education 6th-8th Grades Expires 06/30/2014 Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Science Early Childhood Education Pre-Kindergarten – 5th Grades All Subjects

MY TEACHING STYLE

Love technology and old fashioned games. One of the biggest challenges in any classroom is making content interesting, relevant, and engaging. Students are growing up in a world in which they are constantly looking to be entertained - but not necessarily educated. Great teachers, however, can combine the two by providing “edutainment” for their students. One of the best ways to do this is by using content as a foundation to create classroom board games. When teachers teaching a unit, students are responsible for learning the names, dates, people, places, ideas, etc . . . There is quite a bit of information that must be covered according to state standards, and it is very easy for students to become overwhelmed and disinterested early on- games can help in the classroom.
