I'm confused though about your question regarding the Louisiana Purchase materials. Even if YouTube is blocked in your school, can't you still get the links from the PPT? As far as I know, it should work on a Mac as long as the file is saved as a .ppt file, not a .pptx file. Since I made the PPT in Office 2010, it's probably a .pptx file. Okay well I downloaded Real Alternative, an alternative .ram file reader to Real Player (which I have heard is still full of spyware paid or not) and the videos play. I still think I will save each video as a screen capture and embed the video links as WMV files which I know can be played at school always. And that way I will also have a copy of the file incase the computer I am working off of cannot play .ram files.
Question for you: Do all of your PowerPoint presentations use .ram files for the video files?

Okay that may explain things. I have my default player set to iTunes which is QuickTime and QuickTime as far as I know does not support .ram files. As of Windows Media Player 10, I believe you can download the additional codec to be able to play .ram files without the need for RealPlayer. I will attempt to alter my default player and see what happens.

Hi, Rob. I looked into it. It seems that all of the links were working properly except for one, which I fixed. (the link on the Voting Rights Act) I've uploaded the corrected file for you to download. Here are some trouble shooting tips that might help you out.
- Several of the video links are .ram files that open up your default video player. Make sure all of your video players are up to date with the latest versions, especially the one you use as your default. (probably Real Player or Windows Media Player)
- The video links on the Eyes on the Prize / American Experience page require you to click on the "Video" tab to gain access.
As always, don't hesitate to let me know if you need further assistance or if these tips don't do the trick!

Absolutely. The PPT has only four slides because the lesson focuses on the activity. The PPT is only used to wrap up the key points. In the activity, everyone in the class has a role to play. Students are given money and then convinced to buy government bonds in order to help the fledgling nation. One student is assigned to be a speculator, who then makes a speech to the class trying to convince them to sell their bonds at a loss before the country goes broke and they lose their entire investment. We then discuss the elements of Hamilton's economic plan, whereby those students that sold to the speculator feel ripped off. This also lays the foundation to understand Southern anger and mistrust of Northern intentions and the eventual compromise that moves the capital from NYC to Washington, D.C. The process is described in detail and the guide comes with a sample speculator speech and funny money to cut out and use during the activity. I hope this was helpful!
