I am interested in haring more about the workshop method that you use for teaching. I like the concept of project based learning and used a project for an end of the year that turned out great ! I have taught for 12 years and am starting my masters as a special ed teacher. Maybe you could give suggestions on where to look for more info on the subject or give ideas you have. Great Social Studies Unit on the Constitution. I am using it as the end of the year project for my kids. I am a long term sub at the moment an have the same class I had last year as a long term sub. The position does not retain teachers very well. I am told it takes a special teacher to do it. :)

The answer to Story 1 was 19 on your answer key; 18 gets closer to the total 109. I love the story by the way. Thank you.

Hi!
I recently purchased this activity packet and I love it! When I put the mini posters on the overhead projector my class literally "ooohhed" :) I was wondering......is there any way you could add a mini-poster for the definition of multiples? I find that using the concept of multiples with a prime and composite lesson is helpful.
Thanks so much for your consideration!

I just downloaded the place value center and I am unable to print it. It is saying the file is unrecognizable. I am able to print other things so it is not my printer. Is there another file format that you can send me? Thanks.

How much time should be alloted to teach the unit the way you intended? Can activities be pulled out or is it designed to flow from beginning to end?

I planned the unit to flow sequentially from beginning to end. However, I do not feel every activity has to be completed in order for students to understand the Presidential process. It depends on how much you want to include as far as the time allotted is concerned. I plan on spending 2 weeks on the mock election but, I have a co-worker who will spend approximately a week.

I'm teaching sixth grade this year. Could you tell me if this is appropriate for sixth grade, or would it be too young? I'm used to teaching seventh and eighth grade, and I know the information I used to use would be way too difficult for my students now.

Thanks,

I tried my best to plan this unit so that it could meet the needs of 6th graders. It has been a few years since I taught 6th grade but, I would have used it. I believe these students will get as involved in the candy bar election as 4th and 5th graders.

I do have a unit that comes before the Constitution Unit. It is a smaller unit titled Articles of Confederation. This was America's first government. I also have a unit on the Revolutionary War that ends with the Treaty of Paris before the Articles of Confederation. I have a nice Government Unit and a new Election Unit you might also like. Just go to my store, http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Mrs-Cs-Classroom , type in Social Studies in the "Quick Find" Box and you will see all the units. I am pretty proud of all of them! Good luck with 5th grade this year. Those kids are a special bunch. You don't whether to get on to them or laugh with them :)

Hi, it's me again. After I took time to stop and ask myself why I didn't include a PEMDAS reminder, I remembered. The Algebra-Beginning Expressions Centers does not cover Exponents. So, I didn't include the chart. (I use Please Protect My Dear Aunt Sally at the point I use these centers.) It works. Aunt Sally is being robbed in the mall and the students are to protect her :) I did make you a PEMDAS card though. I made it as a FREE item. Here is the address to get there: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Order-of-Operations-Please-Excuse-My-Dear-Aunt-Sally-Card
Please let me know if this address does not work! I hope this helps!

There are 3 places to every period. The periods are Ones, Thousands, Million, Billions, etc... There is a one's place, a ten's place, and a hundred's place in every period in the number system. Let me know if that doesn't answer your question. Thanks!

Hi! I just downloaded and rated this product (I loved it!) and wanted to point out one small typo that I noticed. In the 2nd question on card 1, you have the word Sunday where the word Saturday should be, which makes the question a little confusing. It's not a big deal and doesn't detract from the quality of the product, but I thought you might like to know! Have a great day!

Thanks again for letting me know and for being so very nice about it :) Lisa

Best Practices 4 Teaching
Hi!

I am starting up a new freebie site, where sellers at Teacher's Notebook and Teachers Pay Teachers share a freebie to market themselves and drive customers to their stores. If you are not already a member of a freebie site and would like to look into joining, I would love to have you fill out the contributor application (which is just really there so that I can keep up with everyone!). I enjoyed looking through your activities. You have a lot of great items.

The pages of the website are not finished yet, but I am trying to get them staffed so that we can start cross marketing. The page that is the 'most finished' is http://writing.bestpractices4teaching.com. You can click on the contributor tab there if you want to become part of it. I am really excited about it. If nothing else, bookmark the website so that you can come and download freebies once it all gets started!

Thanks!

Hello,
I have not purchased your materials yet, but while looking at the thumbnail, I believe I've found an error. When rotating a shape, the rotation always occurs counter-clockwise unless specifically told otherwise. In your picture of a 90 degree rotation, you have it going clockwise. This is a fundamental principle of rotation. The way we rotate a shape is the same direction as our quadrants are numbered. Student need to see the connection between the two. As I noted, I haven't purchased your items, so I might be mis-reading it. Please do let me know if you have any questions.

Mary, I am so sorry I have not gotten back to you. I am totally green and a newbie. I had no idea that the Q & A was for questions from a customer. I figured it was a forum. So again, I apologize. I just did discover the meaning of it today. I figure you probably are not interested any more, but, just so you know, the sorting triangles are an activity. There is not lesson plan, but, they are the lesson. Again, I am embarassed that I did not get back to you sooner, and I apologize. Thanks, Lisa

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for the last 18 years. I have taught 4th grade for the last 11 years, teaching all subjects. I have a passion for Math, and have been allowed to teach it exclusively for the last few years. I also taught 6th grade math/social studies/science in a middle school before switching gears to the elementary school. I have a Masters of Education, am currently working on my Specialist Degree, and am passionate about teaching. I live and breathe it!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love teaching using the workshop method, with an opening, worktime, and closing. This allows students to explore and help find the answer themselves. I feel they must be guided, but, I believe most children retain more when they actually see and do. Skills cannot be neglected though. They are essential for retaining knowledge.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been named teacher of the year for my school and teacher of the month. I served on the year long math BST team when changing from state QCC's to Standards. I am currently on the BST math team.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a degree in Education, (K- 8), with an emphasis in Mathematics, a Masters of Education, and a BBA,(Bachelor of Business Administration. I am currently working on my Specialist, (6th year), degree.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have been married for 26 years, and have three teenage children. My oldest is a sophomore in college working on his engineering degree. I have 16 yr. old twins, (boy/girl), who are juniors in high school. I have been teaching since 1989, but, took some time off to stay home with my children when they were younger.
