I am a very dedicated, highly-proficient teacher with over 12 years of experience in working with children in a variety of roles, most recently as an educator at the elementary, middle school, secondary, and college levels. My areas of specialty include but are not limited to Language Arts, Mathematics, and Classroom Management. I am highly skilled in computers, in both a Windows-based and Mac-based environment. I am proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Entourage, and Outlook and teach courses in these applications. I am also proficient in the creation and development of a variety of electronic and printed publications (newsletters, weblogs, podcasts, memos, budget reports, etc. and possess knowledge of and have experience with grant-writing for additional federal, state, and private funding of various school projects.
My teaching style varies depending on the grade level and subject being taught. Most recently, I have been trained and have become efficient in the Workshop Model - a model adopted by most school systems in order to proficiently cover the Standards and Benchmarks set by each state. Other styles of teaching I enjoy incorporating into my teaching would be lectures, presentations, small groups, partner pairing, and one-on-one instruction.
While earning by BS degree in Education from the University of Michigan, I achieved University Honors, which means I maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher the course of my education at the school. I also received Dean's List the last two years of my education for achieving a semester GPA of 4.0. Most recently, I earned a Master's of Education in Reading and Literacy from the prestigous Walden University.
I attended elementary, middle, and high school in a small rural town outside of Chattanooga, TN. I was greatly influenced by many of the teacher's who left their own mark on me. After I graduated from high school, I attended school at our local community college and finally moved on to the 4-year university in Chattanooga, TN, where I dabbled here and there while getting married and having children. At the age of 28, I returned to college full-time - having the full support of my wonderful husband and our two children. At the age of 30, I walked across the stage and received my BS in Education from the very prestigious University of Michigan. Now - four years later - I am again heading back to school to complete my MS in Education through the University of West Georgia.
I am married to the love of my life, Anthony. We have two handsome boys, Austen - 15 years old, and Nicholas - 9 years old. We currently have no pets, but enjoy spending time together going to movies, visiting local nature parks, visiting the local zoo and aquarium, and going out to eat to try new restaurants. We also enjoy taking an annual family vacation, which last year we spent Christmas (a whole week!) at the Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. This year, we are thinking about a cruise!
