Hello,
No, comprehension questions are all grouped together, not broken by chapters.
Thanks,
Lena :)

I am a high school English teacher using this book. Can you tell me more about what the English lessons in this packet are like?

Language Arts concepts in the “Before We Were Free” are reading comprehension skills; inferencing, predicting, connecting, themes, symbolism, analysis, critical thinking, synthesis, and vocabulary.
Hope this helps.
If you'd like more info, I can e-mail you additional samples.
Thanks,
Mrs. Lena

Lena, teachers held such an important place in my own life and I'm so grateful to you and all of the other teachers who devote their lives to making a difference. Whether some students ever tell you or not, you do make a difference. Thank you for your kind words about my book and if I'm ever in your area, I hope you'll come by and say hello!

Warmly,
Jean

Dear Jean Kwok,

Your book is an amazing read for a wide age range of readers. However, apart from being a really greatly written and extremely engaging book, it speaks to immigrant youth like no other book. Its honesty and eloquence of emotion; your understanding of the unique challenges, and the ability to see it for what it is and persevere in spite of it, is so inspiring. I can see from your website that you presently live in Europe and do a lot book talks throughout the US. I spent a lot of time in Toronto, Canada, where half of city population is foreign born, and if you ever get a chance, Toronto Reference Library would be an ideal place for an Author Talk. They would love you. If you ever visit Florida or Toronto, I will sure come by.
Thanks again and all the best,
Lena :)

gatorjam re: Turtle In Paradise -Lesson Plan- LA Unit - Grades 4, 5 & 6
I just put my lesson plan together and had a question. On the vocabulary page, what is the number after the word referring to? I thought it was because the word is found on that specific page, but that is not the case. Can you let me know what the numbers indicate? Thanks~

Hello Gatorjam,

The numbers should refer to the page numbers in the book. I double checked all the words and realized that there were errors due to my e-reader. I am really sorry! I searched each word in the book and the pages should now correspond with words.
Sorry about this and thank you for letting me know.
Lena
