I am still making my way through this unit, but the more I see the more impressed I am with its thoroughness and the way one idea builds upon the other. I plan to teach this to a class that is middle to low and this will be a rich way for them to learn about close reading of poetry.
There are varied opportunities for students to practice the skill, along with very entertaining powerpoints. The student documents seem pretty basic and not so appealing, but maybe I am viewing this through my old version of Word and not everything is coming through. I'll see at school tomorrow. I am really glad I bought this unit and I wish I had more time left in the year to teach every lesson.

The files come in a .zip file. You need the winzip program to open it. You can download it for free online if you just google "winzip." If you can't get the files to open or if you'd simply prefer, I can email the files to you individually, if you don't mind giving me an email address. TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have taught in the middle school setting for the past five years. Three years in the Utah State Education System and two years in the North Carolina system. I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Language Arts/Reading; 8th grade remedial reading; and journalism.
