Hi Lynne: Sorry you are having issues with this, and I just got your email about not being able to extract the big Health curriculum too...The problem is the same for both resources and it's an easy fix...Since you have a PC, (you told me you were using ExpressZip) you just need to download a newer unzip program.

Follow these instructions:

1) If the files will not extract, click on:

http://download.cnet.com/WinZip/3000-2250_4-10003164.html

2) Click on the green "Download Now" at the top left of the screen.

3) Wherever it downloaded on your computer, open it and follow the prompts to install it. Then try the right click on the curriculum files again, click on "Extract Here" and it should work!!

Don't stress if you have trouble... Just email me and I'll walk you through it, I don't mind! Worst case scenario, I'll slow mail you a thumb drive, but so far I have been able to help every buyer that had trouble get the download!! Mrs. S.

All the games are in it, lesson extension ideas for most lessons, extended power points because there is a size limit on digital uploads, how to organize and get ready for a school year, ending the year unit, conflict resolution...etc!! And to have everything in 1 folder is great. Best of all, it's on sale for 20% off right now. Thanks again for the great feedback! Mrs s

I am so sorry you are having issues. You will love the resource and it will be worth this small hassle!!

I just tried the download and it worked, but I'm pretty sure the zip program I used is probably a newer version than you have...It's an easy fix...

There are several folders all zipped together, so you need an unzip program to open them. They are all created in Word and also saved in PDF so mac or pcs should be able to use them.

I would suggest you try a different unzip file. It's easy and free! Here are a free links for free downloads: You can download an unzip program for free. The link for the Mac version is:

http://download.cnet.com/MacZip/3000-2250_4-10025248.html

If you have a PC, just google "free unzip program". There's one called winzip or this one for PC at:

http://unzip.brothersoft.com/unzip-software.html

Please let me know if you get it. :) Mrs. S.

Aloha Mrs. S.,

Your curriculums/products look great! I am an enthusiastic new middle school Health and PE teacher who is always looking for tried and true lessons that are current.

I am teaching a high school health course this summer and was hoping for some fresh, more age-appropriate ideas. I have been looking at and am deciding between your new summer course product and your full semester product.

I am leaning towards the full semester product, but am wondering if it includes all of/the same resources and lessons that the summer course includes? I notice that they have similar units/lessons, but wasn't sure if they were different all together. It is obvious that the full semester product offers much more 'extras', but wasn't sure what your feedback was for a summer course (10th grade - 6 weeks - 2 hours - 5 days a week).

Mahalo,
Angie

I would definitely get the full semester! Once you purchase it, I would be happy to help you figure out the best way to use your 60 hours-what to include and what you'll need to cut out or shorten for summer school and then you can have it for your regular program next year :) Thanks, Mrs. S.

Hello,

I'm a psychologist working/living in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and will purcahse The Best Health Curriculmn, on Monday the 27th of May, for our school the International School of Kuala Lumpur. I see once the purchase is made you would be able to email some units (depression/stress and perhaps substance abuse?). In addition we have a few counselors who will be paid to work into the end of June to create our curriculum. is it possible to rush the thumb drive by mail if we pay more and/or would you be willing to email a few more units along the way understanding the purchase had been made, until we recieve our thumb drive. Kind Regards, Brendan

Hi Mrs. S, I hope you've had a great year! My 2nd year returning to teaching has been a great one, and I attribute much of it to your wonderful lessons. I purchased the whole curriculum which you sent to me on a jump drive. I've used it all year and was hoping to take it home over the summer to tweak some things before August. I have a student, however, who has stolen some things from my desk and I'm afraid that the jump drive that I purchased was one of them. Is there any way you can send me another one? I would be so appreciative!! Thank you and good luck in the closing of your school year. Toni Floyd

Hello, I have a general question about your curriculum. I've purchased a couple of your lessons and I love them. I am interested in purchasing the whole curriculum but I was wondering what is your teaching schedule like? What I mean is this, do you teach a section of health every other day, like running on an A/B day schedule so your curr. covers an entire school year OR do you teach every day for half of the year. I know this may sound silly but I need to know this information before I purchase the lessons, worksheets, etc.

Mrs. S.
Mrs. S.  (TpT Seller)
Thank you so much for your question and compliment. I teach every day for 55 minutes for half a year (a semester). So, if you teach in a similar time frame as me, the curriculum will work perfectly. That being said, especially since you've purchased some lessons, you'll know that I always have more than can be covered in lessons (with optional videos, lesson extensions, etc.) so if you did teach longer block periods or even a full year class of 55 min. classes everyday, I believe the program would work with a bit of extra effort in planning. If you keep notes the first time through the curriculum, you will have it timed perfectly the next time around!! I hope that helps you decide. I would be willing to help you estimate timing for lessons this summer (not now, I'm soooo busy until the end of the school year!!) Thanks, Mrs. S.

I don't actually have anything to do with the financial end of things, but all you need to do is click on "Contact Us" at the bottom of the TPT page and ask your question. I do know they take P.O.s and that's what most schools like to do...The girls in the TPT "office" are really quick to answer and they'll be able to help you. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks, Mrs. S.

Well, I'll have to think about it then. I can respect that you are a small business person who wants to be paid fairly for her time. However, the price that a homeschooler is willing to pay for something will be different than the price a teacher who is going to get many years and many students use out of a resource would pay. (I actually wouldn't want to have you remove lessons from the course--I was thinking something more like adding a watermark "One year homeschool license expires June 2014" to the pages so that only a homeschooler would want that option, and you could still charge full price for those who will be using it for multiple classes in a school setting.)

Thanks for the idea, but I've learned the hard way that if you offer a more expensive and then also a lesser expensive version of a product people tend to buy the less expensive version-even if it's not the correct description for their situation...Thanks for the ideas though! Mrs. S.

learning2 re: Alternative School / Independent Study / Homeschool Health Curriculum
This looks like a useful program for homeschoolers, but compared to other homeschool curriculum, it seems really expensive for a one semester class. Would you consider creating two tiers -- a homeschool license and a classroom use license? Is there a way to deliver most of the 500 pages electronically to avoid the cost of printing? (I have an ipad.)
May 12, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Mrs. S.
Mrs. S.  (TpT Seller)
Thank you for your interest in my Independent Study Curriculum. As for your question about delivering the program electronically, it is mailed to you on a thumb drive because the files are too large to be a download on TeachersPayTeachers. So, it is in digital form, but I'm not too familiar with the iPad, possibly if you emailed it to yourself as an attachment you could open it?? I really don't know about how to get docs on iPads. But, you'll be interested to know that I have just finished an update to the program where I have divided the student lesson directions separate from the student fill in the blank pages, so that the lesson directions can be on a computer for students to read and then you would just need to print the fill in the blank worksheets and pages. (the pages students work on and turn in). There are 188 pages of fill in worksheets, surveys, scavenger hunts, quizzes, etc. that would need to be printed. It may seem like a lot, but if printed back to back it's 94 pages-only about a page a day - the curriculum is 90 lessons/days.

As for your question about dividing it into two tiers, I don't want to take out anything that the homeschoolers would miss out on!! There are just so many valuable life lessons and teen issues in this curriculum-from relationships, to self-esteem, to peer pressures, to assertiveness, to abstinence, to anger management, to depression, to drug use, to how to read a food label...that I don't want to leave anything out and I believe it's completely worth the $169.00!! :) Thanks, I hope that helps. Mrs. S.  (TpT Seller)
Hi Toni: How is is going? THanks for your question. Unfortunately, I ended up taking First Aid out of my curriculum. I used to have a paramedic come in and go over CPR (our district has the dummies) and all the kids tested and got their CPR cards, and then I spent some days teaching how to wrap sprained ankles and slings, and I had the students practice with all the bandages and wraps, but we lost the funding to pay the paramedic, and with all the other curriculum to cover, something had to go, and I chose to do without First Aid...If I had the time and $$ I would bring in a volunteer fire fighter or paramedic and even if the kids didn't do enough hours to get their official CPR cards, you could print and laminate an "unofficial" card that lists the steps...They really enjoyed it. I hope that gives you some ideas. Sorry I don't have it written down...

Hi. Thank you for the compliments! One of the easiest units to start with is the Nutrition Unit. It's hands-on and fun, and most students haven't had much teaching about it yet so they're interested and in shock at some of the facts. Also, everyone likes to talk about what foods they like so it's engaging for students! Lastly, it's sort of non-controversial-not really a values decision like drugs or alcohol so it makes it easy to teach. I sell a 3-Week Nutrition Unit if you're interested :)

Just a side note on the Marijuana card game, I just played it last week with my 9th graders and I ended up taking 5 pairs out of each deck because (since I was filling in for a boy who went to the bathroom I realized) it was pretty hard to play "Memory" with so many pairs! I took the 5 non-dialouge box pairs out and it worked great :)

I hope that helps. Mrs. S.

I am interested in the Best Health curriculum, but I am unable to view any of the lessons because our school does not support google Chrome, and this won't open with out Chrome. If this curriculum is on a thumb drive, will i be able to open and use it with regular google? I have not seen any of the lessons at all. It allows me to print our the layout of the program, but not individual lessons.
HELP!!!
Thanks Gina Obert

Thanks for your interest...You don't need Google Chrome for the program. Everything is in Word and PDF so it should work with any Mac or PC, whether they have any internet connection or Google Chrome or not. If you want to send me your email address I can email you a sample lesson. Thanks so much, Mrs. S.

I was looking through all of your things and I love what I have seen! I was on your pinterest page and saw that I could get directions to the body parts/drugs project for free by clicking on one of the pictures. Unfortunately, when I click on it, it only gives me another picture of the project. Is there any way that you can email me the directions? My email is s_achtien@hotmail.com Thanks!

You can do the whole lesson with the role plays in one 55 min class but you will be rushing and you won't have time for reflection and follow up on day 1. So, I would say 2 periods would be best. I hope that hps. Mrs s.

I recently purchased your "The Best P.E. Curriculum" package and I have only one problem with it. My school has us post our lesson plans online and though I've edited many of your lessons for my own use I can't save the files to my work computer and post them on our school's shared staff drive. I realize this was probably done for piracy issues, but it is a huge issue for me because I have to completely retype everything. Please let me know a way I can get this resolved.

P.S. I think your answer key in the volleyball section has some wrong answers in the T/F section.

Hi. First, thanks for purchasing my P.E. curriculum, but I need to be very clear with you about copyright issues. My Best P.E. Curriculum is copyrighted with the U.S. Library on Congress and it says clearly on the product at the beginning of the "How to Organize your P.E. Template" this statement: "Copyright © The Best Health Curriculum 2012-All rights reserved by author. Duplication limited to classroom use only. Electronic distribution limited to classroom use only. This lesson or any parts of this lesson cannot be posted to online websites with public access." My "Copyright © The Best Health Curriculum 2012" is at the bottom of each page of most units and documents.

I am very sorry, but even if you re-typed my pages, they are copyrighted, and you cannot post them online...

Hopefully, you can understand this-obviously if I am selling it, I don't want it posted online somewhere for free.

I hope you will be able to work something out with your school administration for your P.E. webpage. They should understand if you show them the copyright on the product and on the bottom of each page of the unit plans. There must be a way you could just post an outline of what you are doing or a recap from the day to satisfy your online requirements? I would be happy to help you brainstorm what you could put in your website, if that would help.

I cannot make an exception to this copyright policy.

Hi Mrs. S,
I recently purchase your complete Health Curriculum. While having to edit the sex ed powerpoint I saved over the top of your original copy. Is there a possibility that I could get another original copy from you?

I absolutely love what you have done. There is more material than I have time to cover but I love the choices that I have to choose from.

Cap'n Pete's Place
Cap'n Pete's Place  (TpT Seller) re: The Best Health Curriculum: A Complete Semester of Health Lesson Plans
Hey Mrs. S,

This is Pete Charrette (Cap'n Pete). I looked at the new format for the TPT website that was highlighted on the last newsletter and was initially excited that Physical Education might be easier to access as a subject area on the front page. However, when I started clicking around on the mock site and clicked on the Specialty tab, physical education was not one of the subjects that appeared. I opened a ticket and told them at TPT that Physical Education was an emerging subject area on TPT and asked them to please make it a subject area that was easier to access for a "first time user" or "buyer" on the TPT site. I have heard from other PE teacher buyers that it is not as easy as it should be to find our products.

I wanted to let other physical education teacher sellers on TPT to gently encourage the "powers that be" at TPT to give us a direct link or at least a quicker link to our products. Check out the latest newsletter and see what I mean and if you can, open up a ticket and let them know we would like some easier access for PE products. Maybe if enough of us tell them, we will get some help.

Hope you are selling a bunch and thanks so much!!!

Update 2/23/13. Here is what I submitted just now:

"Hello. As you are updating new changes on the TPT website I have a request/suggestion. Could you make Health and P.E. as options on the front page along with English, Math and Science rather than making people look through the "Specialty" section?

The reason I suggest this is because Health and P.E. are required subjects for high school graduation, just like English, Math, and Science (and P.E.time is required in elementary schools by each state as well.) It really doesn't belong in "Specialty" along with things like "Critical Thinking" and "Gifted and Talented." If you look at any other educational websites, like Teachers.net or Scholastic, you will see Health and P.E. links right along side of other required subjects."

I hope it helps. Thanks for the prompting. Mrs. S.
-------------------------------------

Thank you so much for the "heads up." I will get on the new site and check it out. TPT has been really responsive to all my suggestions so far, there's been a few times I've suggested making the specialty areas (Health and P.E.) easier to access and they've responded and done it, so I will try again with this issue. THanks, Mrs. S.

Hello, My name is Joseph Perazzo and I am a Physical Education and Health teacher at the High School of Sports Management in brooklyn, New York. I pitched this curriculum to my principal, because it looks great to me. She asked for a 30 day trial. I know that is probably not possible. Can I show her an actual sample of 1 lesson/powerpoint. I tried the demo on the website but it is not an interactive demo. Also what units does this include? Does it include the mental health unit? Let me know. Another request was a sole vendor letter. Let me know if you have that as well. Thanks,

mlshuford re: The Best P.E. Curriculum: A Complete Year-Long 6th-12th Grade P.E. Program
I teach in NC and we just switched over to Common Core this year and I was looking for some fresh ideas to use in my classroom. I teach at the alternative school in our county so I teach 6-9 Health/P.E. My question is which grade level is the curriculum aligned with? Also, how long is your curriculum designed for? I have 6-8 grade students all year long, but of course only have my high schoolers for one semester. I didn't know which grade this would work best with.
February 11, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Mrs. S.
Mrs. S.  (TpT Seller)
Thank you for your interest in my Health curriculum. The Common Core it is aligned to is 9th grade, but you will find that the 6/8 is VERY similar, and actually exactly the same standards on many of the standards, or just slightly different.

Here is an example. 9-10th Writing Standard #5 says "Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience.

and 6th-8th is:"With some guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning,
revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed.

So you won't have to do much to align to both grade level standards.

The curriculum is designed for 1 semester - 90 days with 55 min. class periods, but the lessons are super full and each has extensions if you want to try them, so it could easily be extended to one year. I'm sure if you've been teaching Health already you have videos and activities that you want to do, so it should fit in a year, and will staying on track, you can do it in a semester as well. Especially for your younger students, who may need more time on things, slower is better.

If it were me, I would get the Best HEalth curriculum and use it for both your middle and high school groups. With not too much effort, you can adapt the lessons to fit both. I think you will be really happy with it and that it will fit all your needs. THanks! MRs. S.

My school will pay for your curriculum if you are the sole source since tpt isn't on our vendor list. When our secretary contacted tpt they said they are not the sole source. I'm confused. Where else could I possibly buy it? It takes a whole year to get tpt on our vendor list and I really want to buy it now. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi. Thank you for your interest in my curriculum. TeachersPayTeachers is the sole source for my curriculum, I do not sell it anywhere else. Possibly TPT was not sure of this when your school called, but I can verify that they are the soul source. I would rather have the sale go through TPT, but if necessary you could buy it direct from me. That is the only other way to get it. Thanks so much. Let me know. Mrs. S

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been a K-12 Physical Education teacher for 31 years and been certified in Health for 21 years. I've also been certified in Language Arts for 31 years. Over the years I've taught junior high P.E. and Reading, Elementary P.E., 9th Grade English, 9th Grade P.E., Aerobics, and 9th Grade Health. I've been at my current job - high school 9th Grade Health - for 18 years. I have my Master's of Education Degree in Instructional Technology. I also received my National Board Certification in Health in Dec. 2009.

MY TEACHING STYLE

The purpose of each of my health units was inspired by an awesome website called "Above the Influence." (google it and check it out!). I used the "Above the..." themes and have it posted in my room so students can clearly see the purpose of every unit and lesson. My unit themes include BEING: 1. ABOVE THE CROWD (pressure to fit in): Teens develop skills in positive self-esteem by clarifying their values, discovering their personality, improving self-respect, understanding their best learning style, researching career choices, and setting challenging goals. 2. ABOVE THE STRESS (pressure to relieve stress in harmful ways): Teens develop skills in identifying and relieving stress and depression, and seeking help for Clinical Depression and suicide. 3. ABOVE THE INFLUENCE (pressure to use drugs): Teens develop skills in recognizing the dangers of, and refusing: tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. 4. ABOVE THE PRESSURE (pressure to be sexually active): Teens develop skills in understanding the physical and emotional consequences of teen sex, the benefits of healthy and the danger of unhealthy relationships, and develop media literacy in the sexual content in T.V., movie, music, and video industries. 5. ABOVE THE HYPE (pressure to be perfect): Teens develop skills in media literacy in nutrition-body image, ads, models, eating disorders, steroids, and creatine. 6. ABOVE THE CONTROL (pressure to judge, bully, hate, fight): Teens develop skills in standing up against bullying, anger, empathy and violence, and learn to resolve conflicts in positive ways. 7. ABOVE THE CONTROL PART II (Pressure to have unhealthy nutritional habits): Teens develop skills in eating healthy and staying fit, while learning the dangers of eating disorders, overeating, and unhealthy eating. 8. ABOVE THE PRESSURE (pressure to make dangerous decisions): Teens develop skills in staying away from: 1) the choking game 2) driving fast and crazy 3) tanning booths 4) drinking games 5) being goofy in a car or truck (riding on a hood, skateboarding behind) 6) internet dangers 7) stranger danger 8) taking risky bets and dares, 9) sexual predators (grooming), 10) cutting 11) unhygenic Body, piercings and tatoos 12) sexting. 9. ABOVE THE PAST-(overcoming childhood hardships): Teens develop skills in embracing your life story, developing positive self-esteem, finding healing and support (professional if needed), setting goals, and reaching for your dreams. My curriculum was designed to help teens grow in the confidence to say "I will" to the healthy choice, even in the face of extreme pressures and challenges. It was created to help teens build their self-esteem and embrace the realization that they each have the power to engineer just who they want to be.
