Hi!
I am a music teacher but working on a MS PE endorsement. We have a health teacher, so I am not as interested in those currently. Do you have a PE 6-8 curriculum with Common Core ties? I liked the activities you had for the ultimate 6-12, but since I would buy this myself, I didn't know if you had just the 6-8 for less $.
You materials look fabulous!!

Thanks!

Thanks for your interest. I don't have a separate 6-8, I just sell the 6-12 P.E. curriculum. The 6-12 does include the complete "Common Core Standards for P.E. Made Easy and Super Easy, " which is 20 activities (one for each standard) or the "Super Easy" version combines the 20 actvities into 11 great activities that make it easy to do in P.E. without giving up too much activity time! Thanks, Mrs. S.

Hi Mrs. S

I want to start off by saying that I love your stuff. I recent downloaded the Food Label Scavenger Hunt to use as a Blizzard Bag for my 8th graders. I just started grading some of their packets and realized that there is an error in the KEY. #7 asks for the number of teaspoons of sugar are in the milkshake with the hint of divide the sugar grams by 4. There is 165g of sugar making the answer 41.25. Your answer key says there are 41g of sugar with an answer of 10.25. I just thought you would want to know!

Sincerely,
Gretchen Angelo

Hello,
I purchased your complete health program a couple of years ago. I'm curious if you have updated some of the lessons in the curriculum since then and if you have do you offer them as an update if we have purchased your curriculum. I love the work that you do and continue to check for new products from you.

Also... I recently uploaded your Trends in Health Newsletter. It is great! I will be starting my substance abuse unit this trimester and plan on using it. Is there going to be a charge for successive newsletters or a subscription to them?

Thanks,

Thank you…If you want to email me at: ahealthteacher@gmail.com that might be a better way to communicate!

I have periodically offered updates to the curriculum for $10.00 and sent emails out to all previous buyers, so I'm not sure if you missed that…For instance, I did one when I aligned the whole curriculum to the Common Core Standards.

I appreciate the compliment for the "Trends in Health" newsletter…My plan right now is to continue to put out this FREE monthly newsletter, hopefully getting people excited about checking out some of my other lessons! Mrs. S.

Hi Mrs. S. I am a 26-year technology teacher. This is my first year teaching Health! I started purchasing some of your lessons. They are great! The first semester I taught from the book with worksheets and company made quizzes and tests. Needless to say my students were bored! I started by purchasing your scavenger hunt. The students loved it. I then purchased your tobacco unit and alcohol unit. It is going so much better. I am writing because in the tobacco unit I am looking for the quiz that you talk about. I looked in the document folder--it's not there. Would I be able to get a copy of it? Thank you. I will also be purchasing you sexuality unit.

Hi. First, only the big curriculums are on thumb drives, the rest of the products are digital downloads. We have a few options:

1. When you get the thumb drive you can just drag the files to your desktop and then you won't need to use the thumb anymore.

2. I could also send it to you on a disc

3. I do have the ability to email it to you digitally and you download it from an outside website, but I would need to get TPT
s permission to do this. (I think they would say "yes" this once, but I'd need to ask).

I hope one of these will work :) Mrs. S.

Thanks for your question. Almost all of the products I have posted on TPT are in the Big Curriculum. :) If you send me your email address, I can send you a exact list of what's not, but not included are basically any P.E. lessons, Summer School and Independent Study programs, sub plans (they're included, but not in exact sub form), some task card products are not included, and some of the lessons in the "favorite" series are not included. Every other individual lessons, and all units are included! It's VERY COMPREHENSIVE!! MRs. S.

Oh, sorry for the confusion. When I first posted the "Common Core Standards for Health" I sent out an email to previous Best Health Curriculum buyer and offered a version for previous buyers at a discounted price for a limited time. That version is no longer available(and hasn't been for over a year!!) I didn't realize I still had a link to it out there, so thanks for pointing that out.

You do have most of the materials for the "Common Core Health" resource already in your Best Health, (you can look at the "Preview" for the C. Core resource and see exactly what's in it) but they aren't in the easy to use and all 20 in one format-many Best Health buyers just buy this because you'd need to search and find things throughout the Best HEalth curriculum…It's up to you :) Mrs S.

Hi,
I just purchased your nutrition unit. Awesome so far! Question though, all the assignments that are needed for each day are those found right after the day on the teacher directions? I am not finding the gaining muscle brochure or the "cutting calories" worksheet. Is that the same as Joe's worksheet? Day two looks like there are a lot of handouts with it, do those all go with day two or other days as well?

Thanks

Hi. Thanks for you purchase and your questions.

Typically you'll find all the essential worksheets you need for each day after the teacher directions for that day. There will never be extra handouts so you can know if it's in the teacher directions on "Day 2" for instance, than you'll need those handouts for "Day 2."

Note that if the item is "optional" like the "Gaining Muscle Brochure" or if it's really large like the "Nutrition Board Game", you may need to find those in the "Documents" folder. Everything is in the "Documents" folder.

Sorry for the confusion on “Joe’s Cutting Calories.” Whether I call it "Joe's" or "Cutting Calories, it's the same worksheet :)

Hey: Thank you for your interest :) Sorry, there is no easy adaptation from Best Health to 3-Level-it was a very time-consuming, meticulous process to divide the program: from step-by-step teacher directions for each lesson, to each individual PowerPoint slide, to every doc and where each should fit. (It took me forever to do it, but it turned out amazing!!)

I would like to give a discount to previous buyers of my big curriculums though, so if you'd like to get this 3-Level I'd love to give you 30% off...It would be $172.20...you'd save $73.80. If you'd like to do it, reply here with your email address, or email me at: ahealthteacher@gmail.com Thanks, Mrs. S.

Hi. I downloaded the "Life Stories Project Overcoming Hardships" item and I go to extract the files from the .ZIP folder and it says that I need a password in order to extract them. I did not receive a password when I paid for and downloaded the item, nor is there a password on the receipt. I would really like to access these files. Do you have any idea what the password might be?

Hi. There is no password!! Sorry you are having problems. PCs jus have trouble unzipping the files, but it's an easy fix and then they'll be fine. Follow these instructions.

PC USERS:

1) Right-click and choose "Extract Here."

2) If the files will not extract, click on: http://download.cnet.com/WinZip/3000-2250_4-10003164.html

3) Click on the green "Download Now" at the top left of the screen. Don't try click anything else-it will download and it's FREE!

4) Wherever it downloaded on your computer, open it and follow the prompts to install it.

5) Then try the right click on the curriculum files again, click on "Extract Here." DON'T JUST USE WINZIP TO OPEN YOUR FILES-you must extract them and then you will have programs on your computer to use them from then on. Winzip will expire after a limited time, so be sure you EXTRACT your files.

Hi Mrs. S, I was wondering with your best selling health curriculum kit if the powerpoints work for mac keynote users. Often times when I bring students power points into mac pending how they were saved they can be pretty messed up and confusing. I really like your kit but this is one of the questions I had. Also wondering if it is ok to still get the digital download today or tomorrow if I order your 239 health curriculum or if I have to do slow thumb drive?

Hi Dina: My records show that you bought the Best Health Curriculum so if you want a replacement of the Best Health curriculum, I would have to charge you $40.00 because I have updated and added material since you bought it and no longer have the older version available, and the price is now $239.00. I noticed you re'd to the "3-Level Curriculum." If you wanted the 3-Level curriculum, I would be happy to give you half off on that since you are a previous buyer and it would be $99.50. Let me know!! Mrs. S.

I want to purchase your health curriculum, but I am confused in which one to get. The $199 or the $239 one. I'm just not sure what the difference is because the $199 seemed like it had more things in it. Can you let me know what the differences are, thanks!

I just responded to your question in your email!! Here is what I said:

Thanks for your interest!! If you teach one grade level of Health (Like I teach just 9th grade health) than you want the $239.00 version.

If you teach more than one grade level, let's say you teach 6/7/8 in a middle school, or you teach in a K-12 and you teach Health in 7/8/9, than you want the 3-Level, $199.00 version. They are basically the same lessons, PowerPoints, and documents, but I took the $239.00 version and broke it up into 3 sequential programs.

It is true that I recently updated the $239.00 version and added some material, but I just haven't had time (working fulltime!!) to add it to the 3-Level program yet. I am about halfway through adding that update to the 3-Level version...When I get that done I will raise its price to the $239.00 and offer the updated package to previous buyers for $10.00, so if you get the 3-Level version you will get an email from me with that update :)

So, if you teach just one grade of Health go with the $230.00. If you teach more than one grade, go with the 3-Level.

I wanted to follow up to see if you got the WinZip and got the formatting corrected ????? Let me know, Mrs. S.

Sorry you are having issues...The content should not be overlapping, and the words should not be missing on PowerPoints or on anything!! After selling hundreds of these, I have never heard anyone say this if they used WinZip to extract and open their files...So...

I am guessing you have a PC. If so, when you downloaded the files, did you follow the directions to download the FREE Winzip program and extract the files with Winzip? PCs just have a hard time unzipping the zipped folders that I sent to you, but it's an easy fix if you use WinZip.

If you didn't use Winzip the first time around, PCs will really mess up the files, and even not let you open some of the material...you will want to get Winzip now and follow the instructions below. Your files should then be perfect...

I apologize for the hassle, but there is no password. You have a few options here to get this product working… If you didn't, make sure you right click on the downloaded file and use "open with" and select WinZip. Or, if you have anyone with an Apple, you could download the files on that computer (they will unzip without any problems on a Mac) and then put on a thumb drive to drag the files to your PC, or you could try downloading the newer download version of WinZip if perhaps you didn't or if you have an older version of Winzip, or I can slow mail it to you on a thumb drive…I will need your address if you want to try this option. Again, sorry for the hassles. I've never had a buyer not be able to open this product after downloading the current WinZip program! Mrs. S.

Good morning. I recently purchased your curriculum (The Best Health Curriculum). I printed it all off when I purchased it. But I apparently did not save the powerpoints to my computer. I looked through the Teacher's instructions to see if I would be able to access them now through that saved material and I can't seem to locate the powerpoints. On the TPT site under my purchases I see that I do not have access to the curriculum any more, is there a way to access that one again (as I can with other items I have purchased.) Thank you very much for your help. I am overwhelmed by the amount of awesome information that you have assembled in one place! I have purchased the Best Health Curriculum to use in my Freshmen Health class. Our Middle School Health teacher is looking for new curriculum as well. Would the 6, 7, 8 sequential curriculum work well for this? Will there be too much overlapping information if he chooses to use it? We are a small district and want to avoid the same projects, etc.

It depends…Does the middle school teacher teach 3 grade levels or two???

The programs are the same, so you wouldn't want the middle school teacher to use the same program if they would be teaching all 3 levels. But, if they teach two grades, it would be perfect for you to then do the 3rd level of the 3-Level program. That would work perfectly!! Mrs. S.

Yes!! I will get back to you this weekend with more ideas, if that's O.K. :) but a few ideas that popped into mind right away are from my Nutrition Unit-look at the "Is This Diet HEalthy?" lesson. Each diet they research gets a grade and then it could end in a poster about the diet they researched so everyone where you post the projects could see which diets are unhealthy.

The other idea that came to me was to do the Exercise Lesson from my nutrition unit where they get online and see how much exercise it takes to burn certain food calories. They see how far they have to walk or jog to burn a Snicker candy bar, etc. Then the project afterwards could be a chart of different body weights and typical food items (or even better-your school lunch items) and how far they would need to walk to burn it. People looking at the chart could find their own weight and see how long they'd need to walk to burn products. More later...Mrs. S.

Mrs. S.  (TpT Seller)
Thank you for your interest. I would suggest you get the Best Health Curriculum (not the 3-Level) since you have just the 7th graders for a semester. What I would suggest for your 6th grade Drug Education program is to look through the 1-week Tobacco, 2-Week Alcohol and your 3-week Drug units in the Best Health Curriculum and decide which items to pull out for your 6th grade class. There is so much information in these units it's hard to get it all in during your semester class so you can realistically pull many lessons, and you could also use all the lesson extensions that each lesson offers for your 6th grade program as well. Give your 6th graders a bit longer for lessons, add a few of the suggested extension videos and you'll easily have both programs for your school. If you were to purchase this I can tell you what specific lessons I would suggest you pull out for your 6th grade program, if that would help. I'd be happy to do that.

TeachersPayTeachers is the sole source for all my Best Health Curriculum sales.

If you need a more formal letter stating this rather than printing this reply to give your executive director, send me your email address and I will send it. Thanks again, Mrs. S.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have my Master's of Education Degree in Instructional Technology. I also received my National Board Certification in Health in Dec. 2009.I've been a K-12 Physical Education teacher for 31 years and been certified in Health for 21 years. I've also been certified in Language Arts for 31 years. Over the years I've taught junior high P.E. and Reading, Elementary P.E., 9th Grade English, 9th Grade P.E., Aerobics, and 9th Grade Health. I've been at my current job - high school 9th Grade Health - for 18 years.

MY TEACHING STYLE

The purpose of each of my health units was inspired by an awesome website called "Above the Influence." (google it and check it out!). I used the "Above the..." themes and have it posted in my room so students can clearly see the purpose of every unit and lesson. My unit themes include BEING: 1. ABOVE THE CROWD (pressure to fit in): Teens develop skills in positive self-esteem by clarifying their values, discovering their personality, improving self-respect, understanding their best learning style, researching career choices, and setting challenging goals. 2. ABOVE THE STRESS (pressure to relieve stress in harmful ways): Teens develop skills in identifying and relieving stress and depression, and seeking help for Clinical Depression and suicide. 3. ABOVE THE INFLUENCE (pressure to use drugs): Teens develop skills in recognizing the dangers of, and refusing: tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. 4. ABOVE THE PRESSURE (pressure to be sexually active): Teens develop skills in understanding the physical and emotional consequences of teen sex, the benefits of healthy and the danger of unhealthy relationships, and develop media literacy in the sexual content in T.V., movie, music, and video industries. 5. ABOVE THE HYPE (pressure to be perfect): Teens develop skills in media literacy in nutrition-body image, ads, models, eating disorders, steroids, and creatine. 6. ABOVE THE CONTROL (pressure to judge, bully, hate, fight): Teens develop skills in standing up against bullying, anger, empathy and violence, and learn to resolve conflicts in positive ways. 7. ABOVE THE CONTROL PART II (Pressure to have unhealthy nutritional habits): Teens develop skills in eating healthy and staying fit, while learning the dangers of eating disorders, overeating, and unhealthy eating. 8. ABOVE THE PRESSURE (pressure to make dangerous decisions): Teens develop skills in staying away from: 1) the choking game 2) driving fast and crazy 3) tanning booths 4) drinking games 5) being goofy in a car or truck (riding on a hood, skateboarding behind) 6) internet dangers 7) stranger danger 8) taking risky bets and dares, 9) sexual predators (grooming), 10) cutting 11) unhygenic Body, piercings and tatoos 12) sexting. 9. ABOVE THE PAST-(overcoming childhood hardships): Teens develop skills in embracing your life story, developing positive self-esteem, finding healing and support (professional if needed), setting goals, and reaching for your dreams. My curriculum was designed to help teens grow in the confidence to say "I will" to the healthy choice, even in the face of extreme pressures and challenges. It was created to help teens build their self-esteem and embrace the realization that they each have the power to engineer just who they want to be.
