As a Texas teacher, we have so many standards to cover. With Mrs. Yeo's lesson, I can comfortably assign Lord of the Flies as an independent reading assignment and know certain standards are covered as well as offer rubric-based higher level thinking and creative outlets for my students.

Hi there Lisa,
The type of skills I teach really depend on the type of class I have at the time. In the past I have taught precision of language as detailed in the novel. I have taught life skills such as making choices and the consequences of these choices. I have taught plot development and character development. I have also taught classes about writing style, especially when I have had them write another final chapter where they decide, without ambiguity, what happens to Jonas and Gabe. But as I said before, it really depends on the class I have, their needs and the direction that they like to take as well.

I teach 8th grade English and absolutely LOVE your resources :) I've got several of your items in my cart, but I just wanted to see if you were going to offer any promo codes or "black Friday" coupons over the holidays before I purchase? If so, I would love to hold off and then perhaps add a few more goodies to my cart with the money saved. If not, I'll go ahead and purchase fewer items now. I am definitely going to get your Giver unit, regardless, though - I was blown away by the sample :)
