Judy Buckley (TpT Seller) re: Easter Addition Write the Room
I used the Easter Addition Write the Room activity today for our math lesson. We did it with partners as a cooperative learning activity as I have several with IEPs this year and 45% ELL. I had to number the pictures I put around the room in the top corner to match the ones on the worksheet. Would you consider doing that for future ones you create? My students need a lot of modifications while other classrooms may find it more challenging to seek out and match up the pictures. Just a thought :) I started a TPT store in November sharing the write the rooms centers I made a couple years ago. I share with all the kindergarten teachers across my district but now TPT allows me to share with so many new colleagues and I get a little money for my classroom at the same time. What a great website!

I work with kids who need interventions- I think this is great lesson on fire safety. I was wondering if it would be possible to have the words hydrant for example either be just hydrant on all pages or fire hydrant on all pages. Same with truck and fireman and fire fighter. I know this seems picky- I have kids who need things consistent. Please let me know if I could edit it, if it would be easier. Thanks, theresa

I make necklaces or my kids to wear with their jobs on them and we say a pledge. (Like a picture of a bottle of glue and the word gluer - laminate and put yarn on it.)
Example Pledge: (This is usually something I make up right out of my head so forgive this one lol) Raise your right hand and repeat after me "My job, is a sorter, my job, is to sort, I will sort, the characteristics, of the shapes, to the best, of my ability, to help my group." Then they sit and everyone gives them a hand. We really focus on how important each persons job is and how we are like a puzzle and couldn't work together without each other.
Winterville is probably about 5 hours from Charlotte :)

Here are my lesson plans for that lesson:
Review Shapes. Sort shapes and characteristics into a tree map interactively on Smart Board & explain cooperative groups.
Students will sort words and pictures into groups on a tree map.
Jobs: Gluer, 2 Sorters, Reader
I broke the students into groups of 4 for the activity. I pre-cut the characteristics for them to save time. The Reader read what each characteristic said and the sorters put them where they belonged on the tree map and then the gluer glued them on. They completed the frame of reference and colored the shapes as a group.

I have been teaching for 8 years. I taught 1 year in 1st grade and this is my 7th year teaching Kindergarten!

My teaching style is teacher directed, but I am trying hard to give up control and allow my students to lead the teaching by working in cooperative groups.

I graduated from East Carolina University with a BS in Elementary Education! I have recently applied and hope to be attending ECU in May to get my Master's in Elementary Education!
ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
I am a determined person and can and will do anything I set my mind to. My 2 boys and my husband are my heart and the only reason I live, breathe, and smile each day. Kindergarten teacher to 19 wonderful babies who get more time with me than my own kids and a bank teller on the weekend.
