With all the budget cutbacks in schools this year, our school lost our AR/STAR testing we depended on. I have been searching for reading level tests that is based on more than just a timed reading test. This test does that. Now I can identify which phonics sounds are missing and target that area. I also like that spelling tests can be individualized based on their reading levels too. Thank you for sharing your work with teachers so we can increase our students reading!

By luck I found the Prescription for Reading test battery today and went searching for the "round letter cards" it talked about. This is it! I love that these cards have all the sound listed on the back so that when I'm testing and recording I can quickly check the correct sounds. This is great!

I'm not as tech savvy as I used to be, so the JPEG format was difficult to deal with. I found the same assessment in one of your other downloads and used that one instead. This inventory was very helpful to me as a screener for auditory discrimination deficits.

I am just starting to use these tools. They seem to be very beneficial. However, I was wondering if I could get spelling words for numbers 10, 31, and 34. There must have been an oversight...these words are missing from the template (spelling list placement test). Thank you.

It is helpful to write down how the student DID say the word so you can point out the errors after the test is finished.
If there are 0-75 words correct, your student is pre-primer level; 76-120, primer; 121-170, first reader; 171-210, second reader; 211-220, 3rd reader or above.

I would be interested in using some of your materials on my website universalhomeschool.com (this website is due to be released in August 2011). The site will mainly focus on teaching videos for children who are being homeschooled, or need the extra help. We will offer math, reading and writing. I started building this site about a year ago and during this time I have been creating videos, quizzes, worksheets and lesson plans. I originally wanted a site that would be available for free to parents and teachers. Unfortunately because of the cost of the hosting, development, materials, and other overheads having a free site would be impossible so I will be charging a yearly fee to have access to the site. This will be anywhere between $30 and $50.
Therefore I am asking you for permission to use your work on my website. I will pay for your materials, give you the credit, create a link to your page and give you free membership.

I have students who can decode and read reasonably fluently but with little understanding. Does your comprehension package/programme give some advice/activities to assist? I have some ideas but am in some cases at a loss to know how to address this issue?

The Reading comprehension tests guide you as to which of the components of the 7 series of comprehension booklets you should order at correctivereadinginstitute dot com. I did not make them up however. They are all inexpensive, and I find that the students get immediate feedback as to how much they are improving. The teacher's guide offers a few suggestions but it is mostly answers to the exercises. I try to have students picture what they are reading, as the mind remembers pictures almost instantly. This seems to help the most for me with my students. Since the stories can be timed, and the grade levels for reading each selection are normed to three minute timings, I find that students like to try to beat themselves and so they focus better, and then remember better. I use an eclectic approach and like to figure out what my students' learning styles are and work with them accordingly. I generally have students use all senses except smell as they learn to read better.
