I absolutely love your novel studies! I have purchased 3 so far - The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Hatchet, and Homer P. Figg. They are so well thought out and thorough. I was wondering if there would be a City of Ember novel study any time soon? I also have Peter and the Starcatchers and the Sisters Grimm Book 1 Fairy Tale Detectives that would be amazing to have novel studies for. Thank you so much for all your hardwork and effort that goes in to making these amazing novel studies!

Thank you very much for your kind and encouraging comments. Although I didn't have plans to do the three novel studies mentioned, I will now certainly take them into consideration. It is always helpful to receive suggestions and get an idea of what teachers are looking for. Thanks again. All the best.

Hi Nat,

I purchased your Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh unit. I was wondering if there is a .doc file that I could obtain? I am a pilot for a 1 to 1 initiative and would like to have the notebook online for them to use, instead of paper/pencil. I hope this is possible. Thanks so much! This looks great. I am trying to find a years worth of novel studies like this. I have several books that I really like to use and many of them are here. Do you know or do you have any suggestions for more specifically what I am looking for. I am looking for an actual outline of a years worth of literature built into lesson plans that include common core standards? I have no problem developing activities or buying ones I see on this website. My problem is trying to oraganize and decipher all the different information from several different novel guides and putting them into lesson plans I can use, but adding all the fluff that my admins require?

Hi, Nat! I absolutely LOVE your literature units!! My kids do too!!! We are going to be starting a new class book in January, The Hunger Games. I was wondering if you were considering making a unit for that book? I can't find one that I love and I know a lot of 6th grade and middle school teachers are bringing the book into their classrooms. Again, I absolutely LOVE your work, it saves me A LOT of work!!

Hi Nat - I love your literature studies because the skills within them are so well aligned with my needs in the classroom. My only wish would be for book studies for students that are in the 3rd grade range. Many of my fourth grade students are up to 2 grades below grade level but I want them to still be able to participate in a small group book study. I have used book studies from others on TpT but they don't come anywhere close to your quality.

I'll be reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret with them as well, and we will use your novel study again. I was wondering if you could recommend an autobiography or biography I could use with my students as well?

Hi Nat,

I am the book review editor for the Tchr2Tchr collaborative blog. I wanted to invite you to be a guest reviewer and write a book review for us. You could review Hatchet and link your novel study guide at the bottom of the review. That was my absolute favorite book to use when I taught 4th grade! Book reviews can be short; the minimum is 200 words, so a paragraph or two. We would also link your store and your blog (if you have one) to the review. It's great exposure!

If you're interested you can find all of the details here:

Thanks for considering collaborating with us!

When I read your question I went back over the Common Core Standards to see how well my novel study units lined up with the expectations outlined in the document. I was very pleased to see how strong a correlation there was. Novel studies such as the one you mentioned typically include the following from the CCS: making references, citing specific textual evidence, determining themes, interpreting words and phrases, working with plot and characters, pov, etc.
Take a look at my freebies - Island of the Blue Dolphins and The Pendeltons to get a better idea, if you like.
