I work as a specialist at Full Sail teaching screenwriting and assisting students not only to improve their writing, but to teach them to understand how the screenplay in written form is essential to them in the roles they would like in their technical careers. I am a homeschool mother of two and teach creative writing to middle and high school students within our support group. I freelance material for many different web-sites, magazines, and homeschool curriculum.
As a homeschooling parent, I have a very eclectic style. As far as writing is concerned, I teach without introducing the basics. I expect students to know how to form a paragraph and then utilize the methods of writing correct paragraphs into five paragraph essays and additional assignments. I think that is expected of upper level education. I grade work using track changes in Microsoft Word, and always comment regarding style of paragraph if needed, as well as offer feedback overall on the written work. While curriculum is planned out with specific directions, everyone often needs help and I am not afraid to give students a little push, brainstorm with them, and help them in their writing. I'm a very organized individual, with lessons very specific. I am also extremely flexible and help tailor assignments to students needs. In the end, I want each person to hone their writing skills and shine. I work hard to offer constructive yet positive criticism to help them continue to want to write and hopefully in the end, have fun doing so. I believe that no matter what avenue children decide to take in life as far as "work" goes, they will need to be able to write and effectively communicate with others. My creative writing assignments are a stepping stone to help them achieve greatness.
In my last creative writing meeting with my homeschool students, I asked them, in anticipation of offering classes on the web, 'Why does this class work for you?' and then 'Why does this class not work for you?' I was nervous asking this question. Most students, while they want to make a good impression, still will tell you the truth. The reply of one student was that he wished he had a creative writing class sooner in life, because he struggled with writing and now felt the process of writing was easier for him and fun. That made me very happy, knowing that I reached this person and that he was going to succeed with the remaining writing assignments. I had another student that received very high marks on his written portion of the SAT because he had more practice writing in my class. He'd struggled a bit at the beginning of the year, so I was happy to see him make such great progress in just a few months time.
I have a degree in Business Management with a specialization in Marketing. My love and passion in life is writing. I've used my degree in business to better manage my goals for teaching and writing.
I am an easy-going individual looking to share the knowledge and passion that I have for writing. I am an avid reader, or bookworm, you might say. In my free-time, I love to garden, travel, go on long walks, and just hang out with my kids.
