The Greek mythology unit based on the Common Core Standards is a unit that focuses on the allusions/phrases that are found in mythology. There are activities to go along with the stories like King Midas, Pandora's Box, etc. This unit just has ideas and activities.
As a teacher, I found it difficult to find myths that were appropriate for fourth grade. If you are familiar with Greek mythology at all, you know that the stories talk about drinking, extramarital affairs, etc. These stories just contain inappropriate issues for an elementary age student, so I took the popular myths and basically rewrote the stories to make them appropriate. All of the stories are written at a lexile level rigorous enough for 4th-5th grade students. There are some addition activities that are not included in my original unit. These units may be used independently or ideally together.

Just a comment. I teach EFL in South Korea. I let my co-teacher use the hamburgers thinking that it would just be every now and then for keeping points in a game. They hamburgers were a hit with the 3rd and 4th graders. They only have English class twice a week, and at this point they would be lost without the hamburgers. Throughout the whole class period my co-teacher and I award points to tables for listening well, answering questions, etc. Usually there is a game at the end of class and the students continue to keep track of their own points using the hamburgers. My co-teacher has also added two fully made hamburgers that are worth 10 points each to each set. Great tool and so easy for behavior management with multiple classes. THANK YOU!

I love that these myths are easier for the kids to read, but my question is what readability level are they on? I am trying to make sure the kids read a few myths that are in the new Common Core complexity band and have others for differentiation. Because these are in adobe files I cannot do a readability or lexile tests without retyping them.

I am sorry that I didn't respond to you immediately. It took some time to cut and paste the text from powerpoint and then into a text file that could be uploaded to the Lexile level reader. I did all of the stories and here are the results.
The Golden Touch Story-770L
The Tangled Web- 840L
The Story of Medusa and Athena-1140L
Perseus and Medusa- 850L
Pandora's Box- 800L
Echo and Narcissus-790L
The Twelve Labors of Heracles-810L
The Trojan Horse- 860L
Achilles' Story- 800L
Persephone and Demeter- 780L
Music of the Underworld-780L
So as you can see, all of the stories are in the stretch Lexile Band for 4th and 5th grade students, which is 740L-1010L. These stories would be on the challenging end of the levels for 3rd grade students since the stretch Lexile level for that level is 420L-820L.

I see that some of your things are listed as adapted to common core and others are not. I am assuming only those listed have been adapted. Is this a correct assumption? This file was actually created on a Macbook, so I am not sure how to solve the problem. It is a zipfile that contains a powerpoint file that can be edited (so you will need ppt for that option), but the file also contains a pdf. It's not editable (as stated in the description of the product), but you can still print the materials. This is all of the information I have for you. I am sorry that I am not much help. I really would suggest opening a ticket with TpT technical support for help. They will be able to provide the technological assistance that you need.

Well, your question is kind of difficult to answer as the activities are not necessarily a list of vocabulary words. It is a project in which the students demonstrate they understand concepts. Yes, there would be some vocabulary with like food chains (producer, consumer, decomposer), but it's mostly about the concepts. All of the concepts that are covered in this ABC book are given in the description.

Hi! I just have to say I love so many of your products. I have purchased several already. I teach 4th grade and am currently doing your original Mythology Unit with my students. I started last week and plan to conclude the unit this Friday. So far they love it! I was so excited to see this new Mythology addition to your store. I plan to purchase it, but wanted to first make you aware of a small error I noticed as I was reviewing the sample pictures. It seems in the King Midas story that it says "when he suddenly he had a brilliant idea." I think one of the "hes" needs to be removed. I love that you have rewritten the myths in kid-friendly versions. I have noticed so many of them are not completely appropriate for fourth graders, even the stories in your favorite book that you suggested. I had to hunt that book down on Amazon! Lol! I look forward to combining this unit with the other one. There seems to be so many great new additions. Thanks again for all you do!

I have corrected the "he" issue. :) The problems you mentioned are exactly why I decided to make "student friendly" myths. I wanted to cringe every time we read something about someone being drunk or Zeus and all his many women. Those topics are just not appropriate for 4th graders.

I am sorry that you are having trouble printing. This has seem to be the technical issue for a lot of people this week, not just for my customers, but other sellers as well. The only two fixes that I know for this issue are the following:
1) Make sure that your Adobe Reader is up to date and that you have the most current version installed.
2) When printing the pdf, choose the "advance" button at the bottom of the screen and click the box, "print as images". This is another trick that works.
If these two options do not work, I would suggest that you contact TpT for technical support. They may have other suggestions for helping you print the document, especially if it is a printer issue.

Have you tried printing the smaller pieces rather than the entire unit at once? I just purchased your states of matter packet and am a little confused on how you do the mystery box. Do you call each student up one at a time to look inside the box? Is there only one item in the box or do you put several items in one box? Or do you make 5-10 mystery boxes each with an item in them? Sorry, I read over it a few times and like to idea, but can't seem to figure out the logistics. I also had another teacher read it and we couldn't really figure out how to do it.

The unit does have an answer key for one of the activities that would have definite answers. Many of the activities are "experiments" and there are recording sheets for the students to record and analyze their data. There is no answer key for that. The unit is more about activities than a bunch of worksheets that would have "answers".

I am not sure why your printer is not printing the first six pages. I am not all that familiar with "printing issues"...the only thing I know to suggest that works for me anytime I am having printing problems is to do the following:
Try the "Print as image" option. Click the Advanced button in the Print dialog box to find this option.

I am starting my tenth year of teaching. During that time I have taught 4th and 5th grades. I am currently teaching 4th grade. I absolutely love teaching! I have the best job in the world!
MY TEACHING STYLE
I believe in making learning fun and engaging for students. Ron Clark is my inspiration and I strive to incorporate many of his philosophies in my classroom. I love songs, games, and hands-on activities and incorporate them on a daily basis. I try to focus on my students' interests and weave them into my instruction.

* I have my National Board Certification in Middle Childhood/Generalist. I earned this certification in 2008. * 2012 Campbellsville University award for Excellence in Teaching recipient
