Thank you so much for the compliment.

I have fraction strips for fractions, decimals and percents. It may be advanced but it is purely visual. Here's the link: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Fraction-Strips-for-Fractions-Percents-and-Decimals

There's also this for $2.00, also very visual: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Fraction-Decimal-and-Percent-Sorting-and-Matching-Activities

Hi Cara, I used an html code generated by photobucket. Luckily for me, at the time that I did it, it used to work. Now, when I insert the code, nothing shows, only blank line space. TpT probably changed their coding algorithms or something. But you can still try.

I can't guarantee that it will work but I hope it helps. I learned this and other useful information by being a TBTS - Teaching Blog Traffic School (by Charity Preston from the Organized Classroom Blog) - member. This is a link to it in case you would like to check it out: http://ow.ly/imBky

Is this part of the 3rd grade common core?
March 5, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Nyla's Crafty Teaching
Nyla's Crafty Teaching  (TpT Seller)
I researched the criteria for the third grade common core and this is what I found:

1. Reason with shapes and their attributes.
2. Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
3. Partition shapes into parts with equal areas. Express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole. For example, partition a shape into 4 parts with equal area, and describe the area of each part as 1/4 of the area of the shape.

It seems that it only deals with 2D shapes. I have a unit for #2 above, it is found here:

Thanks for your extra effort. Actually was unaware that either cheeses or sponges have pores. Just wondering whether your students know this - or if that is part of the learning process. Certainly didn't mean for you to buy other clipart products, etc.

Okay then (smile). Well not every student would have the same experiences. They learn from each other, pick up new information through questioning, discussion or their own research. One of the favorite moments is seeing them learn these extra bits of information because children are so curious, they want to know everything. So for most, it would be part of the learning process.

The image of the cheese used was the only one available (in cheeses). Purchasing a food set from a graphics provider would have raised the price of this product significantly. I have to think about the pricing as well. Originally, I didn't want to use cheese because of the same reason you mentioned - not every cheese would have pores (at least not visible to the eye). Before, I could not find any clip art image of a sponge for commercial use but I fell in love with the cheese! Anyway, I'm putting in a sponge there for you now. I really hope that it is what you would prefer.

You may want to try updating your Adobe Reader. Here is what TpT tells us to do: First, if the PDF you purchased is blurry and showing black smudges, you need to upgrade your ADOBE READER is all. If you are on a Mac and still having the same issue, it's absolutely because you are still opening it with PREVIEW and not ADOBE READER. To solve, when you go to open the file, you need to actively select to open it with Adobe Reader, because the Mac will automatically open it with Preview if you don't say otherwise. So in your Finder Window, highlight the file and then click on the tool in the top of the Finder Window that looks like a sprocket or something, then choose Open With and then Other and then select Adobe Reader. Let us know it's solved with a follow up message so we know you're all set.
If the file you purchased is not opening for you at all, it's likely because you do not have the right application to open it! For example, to open ZIP FILES on a PC, you need something like WINZIP (http://www.winzip.com/trialpay.htm) to open it. If you have the old version of Microsoft Office but purchased a DOCX file or a PPTX file, you just need to download and install the converter here (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=3). If you don't recognize the file extension on the file you purchased, do a Google search for "How to open a .notebook file" for example.
You can try the FAQ as well.

If none of this works, you can email me at gilliannyla(at)gmail(dot)com and I'll email it to you directly.

I was looking over the thumbnails and noticed one problem said "a kitchen wall....how many tiles are needed to tile the kitchen floor" and " a studio wall....how many tiles are needed to tile the bedroom wall." This change of wording will confuse my students. Will I be able to change the inconsistent wording if I purchase it?
January 12, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Nyla's Crafty Teaching  (TpT Seller)
It is not a confusion. Those are all different examples with a similar theme which is the laying of tiles. (Not the same question or part of the same question.) One example is the large tiles for the kitchen floor, another is small tiles for a studio wall, and there's one for a bedroom wall. They are illustrated (that should help). However, it is a PDF file so you won't be able to change it. What you can do is send me your email via this Q&A tab and I will send you it in Word format (if you purchase it), no problem.

Yes: English Language Arts Standards >> Language >> Grade 3
Vocabulary Acquisition and Use:
Determine the meaning of the new word formed when a known affix is added to a known word (e.g., agree/disagree, heat/preheat).

This product teaches the meanings of different prefixes which will help students to figure out the meaning of any word that these prefixes are attached to. As long as they know the meaning of the root word and the meaning of the prefix, then they can deduce the meaning of the new word formed.

Hi Lilly92, it is more enjoyable to play it with less students and with an extra copy of the card set. Every card has at least one match, some have more than one matches, but by adding more copies, you will have an easier way of finding matches. I will work on a key over the Christmas holidays and will notify all of my customers via Facebook and TpT of its completion. Thanks - Nyla.

Hi sritter78, I assume that your school/district prefers the term 'homonyms'. While this term could have been used, the most recent research I done shows that teachers are moving away from this term because it is usually confused with 'homophones'. And I like that the term 'Multiple meaning Words' is self explanatory so that it would lead to easier understanding, memorizing and less confusion for the teachers and students. I cannot change it at this point in time. I hope you understand but thank you for asking. I will keep it in mind but cannot make any promises, as yet. - Nyla.

Alice, thank you for telling me. I re-uploaded the correct files and notified all customers. I think that the new up grades to the site affected some files. The version you got was a previous one the I have since changed. But it's all fixed now. Thank you Alice.

Don't worry, the site is under heavy user traffic right now. I've decided to let it remain free a bit longer to facilitate you. I'll change it back to it's original price at 11:00 am Eastern time tomorrow.

I plan to... I'm just so busy at school. But I will because even with the students at my school, they really like it and it made me realize that I should make more even for the higher level reading blends. I'll do it! Thank you for the encouragement. It means a lot!

Nyla,
I follow you and got your 'followers' email right around the same time I got mine. None of my links work and yours do, so I was wondering what I was doing wrong? I am old school and know html code, so except for one mistake I know my code is right....
So if you have a second, I would love some help!
Thanks, Fern

I copied and pasted your codes in blogger as a draft under the 'edit html' tab and when I clicked compose, they were working links! So I cant understand why they did not work here. Strange.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching since 2005 at the std. 4 primary level in Trinidad and Tobago. I am particularly interested in sharing my own personal lesson plans, tests and activities. I also love to express my creativity in the classroom. I am a bit of a craftster . So I'm always cutting, gluing or making something... a game, a chart, a learning center, etc. So, teachers and parents, feel free to stop by and see what's new at Nyla's Crafty Teaching!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use art and humour and hands on activities as much as possible. Students appreciate the creativity, it grabs their attention. It also helps them to remember what they learned in the long term.
