Not at the moment. I am going to try to create a set at some point this summer, but I am not sure when truthfully. I have a new assignment for next year, so besides fixing up my old units, I am trying to create stuff for my class. I don't teach math, and I won't be teaching it next year either, so it's so hard for me to definitively say when I will get around to it. It's on the list though! :)

One Extra Degree  (TpT Seller)
Hi! The folder games you saw on my blog/contained in the file are from a project I completed in college. I went through Words Their Way and chose a skill from each level of development to create a phonics box. I hand-drew them myself, and they are not in the best shape now-a-days, which is why I have never really went into specifics about them or offered them on my blog. :) I just drew covers of the books I paired the skills up with. For example, I used "Giggle, Giggle, Quack" as a backdrop for alphabet matching. I created letters & the kids could attach them to the folder (capital and lowercase) with velcro. Several of them are word sorts for different patterns. I cut pockets into the folders to insert cards that I hand-made, and then the kids would sort them onto mats on the inside of the folders. "James & the Giant Peach" was a gameboard with cards. They read a word & determined if the base word stayed the same when the suffix was added, if it doubled the consonant, or if it dropped an e. Then they went to that corresponding place on the board. I used squishy bugs from the dollar store as game markers. You can make them into anything you want them to be... and you could probably easily glue some games from TpT and blogs into folders to do essentially the same thing. I created them in 2004 or something...before I started creating digital resources. Hope that helps!

Hi! The zip file contains a pdf version of the Sub Tub that you can simply print and write on, and an editable version with lots of text boxes to type your information into and save it. It has pages for general information, specific information on special needs for kids, emergency information/procedures, routines, lesson plans, notes from the sub, etc. If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to answer them. :)

Sure. I just made it super fast for my class, and I only used one image. I used one that had a drink in their hand, and it's the only one I have like that on my computer. I will not be able to use an image of a child with lemonade or a drink, but I have added a child with a darker skin tone. I may add more later on... to represent a wider range of kids... boys/girls... different hair colors... different skin tones... but for now... I have a TON of projects to tackle. Hi! I usually use them as a way to see if the students know definitions... or I give them a chance to write definitions in their own words. Sometimes I have them illustrate or draw an example. For math, they might solve a problem or make a graph that illustrates the term. I use them in any way that I can. :) They are basically used as exit tickets most of the time, but you can use them explicitly to teach terms by having them write a definition, draw an example, etc.

Thank you! I get a lot of my clipart from Scrappin' Doodles. The fonts are from various sources. I use several from Kevin and Amanda (Fonts for Peas) with credit... and I bought my colorful alphabets from Lettering Delights.

Does this pack and your poetry center pack overlap at all or at they completely different? I am trying to determine which one to buy or if I should purchase both. Thank you!

Hi! They are two totally different files. They do not overlap at all. :)

I love that this is so colorful! I have calculated how much it would cost me to print out this unit in color. My question is how many of the pages are student handouts? I would like to get an idea of how much it would cost for each of my children individually.

All of the student print-outs are in black and white. The colored pages are either directions (which do not need to be printed) or are posters. If I print the posters to use with my kids, I print the originals in grayscale and then copy them in black and white on my school printer. Also, if you are concerned about ink, and you have a projector or SMARTboard, you can project the posters that way. I like to do that, because it enlarges everything really well! :) There are twelve colorful posters, should you choose to copy them in color for every kid.

Hi! Sorry for the confusion! My Jot Spots were featured in the newsletter today, so I put them on sale through tomorrow. The two Jot Spot packets are the only items on sale right now. :)

Do you think the Sticky Note Jot Spots could be appropriate for first grade as well, or is too advanced?

Hi! I have a few friends who teach first grade and have used them successfully. :) I put a complete list of skills/strategies in the description, so you can determine whether you think they will work for your kiddos!

After downloading the sticky notes, how will students be able to "stick' them on their reading pages?

Hi! You use real sticky notes with them. :) I always have my kids build anchor charts with them as a class, or I will have them search for certain things like maybe figurative language in the text and attach the post-its to the book. Eventually, the sticky notes have to come out. This gives the post-its a home, and helps parents understand the purpose and context of the sticky notes. It also helps support my students so they know what they are looking for in their texts, especially during small group or independent work. My students LOVE them. I just stick three post-its on each mat. If you want to see how I use them, you can read this post: http://oneextradegree.blogspot.com/2013/02/sticky-note-jot-spots-for-accountable.html

If you are interested, I just stumbled upon another teacher's post about how they used my jot spots. I love the chart she created to show how to use them! http://kooncescorner.blogspot.com/2013/02/jot-spots-and-response-cards.html

I love this idea but I can't use it for high school. The illustrations wouldn't work. Would you consider redesigning for 9-12?

Hello,

Does your biography project include an oral and a written portion? I am really trying to incorporate both into the project.

Thank You!

Yes, the kids write a speech about their person, and then they recite the speech during the Wax Museum any time someone pushes their "button". :) I had them present to the class before opening it up for parents/other classes to visit our classroom.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Over the past seven years, I have fallen in LOVE with third grade. Teaching and creating is my passion! :)

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that teaching stretches far beyond the content areas. First and foremost, I work on establishing strong relationships with my students based on trust, mutual respect, and empathy. I realize that I am educating little people, and that even little people have problems that occasionally distract them from learning. I embrace this, and strive to meet their emotional and academic needs while at school. Sometimes we all need a pat on the back or a supportive smile to get us through the day. Beyond that, I take a child-centered approach to learning. I feel that if I say or do too much I am, in fact, inhibiting the students’ learning. My instruction is very much interactive, hands-on, authentic, and tailored to meet each individual student’s needs as much as possible. I want the students to think intently and critically to find solutions, reflect on their learning, and gain independence. My role is to facilitate this learning and encourage them along the way. I provide the opportunities and then support as they complete assignments to ensure that every child feels a level of success and confidence in my classroom.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

:)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a Masters in Literacy Curriculum & Instruction! *Ultimate Goal: I would like obtain my Doctorate and perhaps work as a professor or Literacy Coach.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am an exceptionally lucky person who genuinely enjoys her job, and I consider teaching my greatest hobby. Third grade captured my heart! I also enjoy drawing, reading, singing, shopping and dancing. I thrive on being able to think creatively and think outside of the box. I love running! It is a great stress reliever! I also love traveling, spending time with my husband {of course}, my dog Loralei, family and friends, and I love experiencing new things. I've recently delved into the world of workshops, and I am HOOKED! :)
