Hi Pegi,
One of my kiddos noticed a mistake on the bookmark for A Single Shard. In the part about the main characters, Crane-man should say a crippled beggar and Tree-ear's guardian and best friend. The first one says it, but the other four are incorrect. I tried to fix it, but I can't.

Thanks so much for letting me know! I use the same template for each edition and sometimes forget to change things. Shame on me!!!

I'm at work today; as soon as I get home I will revise the bookmarks, and you'll be notified. Do you teach other books that I have bookmarks over? If so, please accept a free edition from me. You can check out the bookmarks at my store: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Pegi-Bevins or just search for Bookmarks Plus.

When you decide which bookmark you want, please email me at home: prbevins@netins.net. If you don't teach books I have bookmarks for, let me know and I will refund your money. That was just carelessness on my part--no excuse.

I would be glad to do bookmarks on both of the books. And, because you suggested them, you get a free copy of each! However, the only way we can do this is if you send me another question through TPT, comment on a product through TPT, or email me at home: prbevins@netins.net. We're not allowed to contact buyers.

I'll try to have them down within a week or so. Thanks for the suggestion--and do feel free to email me. I never email buyers back except to send the product. If you'd like to know when I put out new products you could "follow me." In the last 2 weeks or so, I've created bookmarks for about 15 books.

Hmm... I don't know how that could happen. I just checked, and the file for Bookmarks Plus Tuck Everlasting is the right one. Are you saying that you wanted to buy Tuck but ended up with Summer of the Monkeys? In my preview for Tuck, there's a link to the free Summer of the Monkeys bookmark. So you can download that for free and then go back to Tuck and purchase those bookmarks. Does that make sense? Please let me know if I'm misunderstanding you. jmullinsjoan re: Bookmarks Plus: King Lear edition--A Handy Little Reading Aid!
Hi - there is a typo on the King Lear bookmark: it should read Cordelia not Crodelia!
Also what are listed as themes, I would describe as topics, not themes. I teach my students that a theme in literature is a statement that takes a position about a topic and is expressed as a complete sentence. Since the bookmark is a PDF file, I am unable to correct it and therefore cannot use it. Would you be willing to correct it?
January 2, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
n/a
Pegi Bevins  (TpT Seller)
Yes, of course, I will make the change to Cordelia's name. As far as theme goes, when I taught high school, I taught my students the same thing you teach yours--that a theme is a position statement. However, when I worked as a writer and editor for an educational publishing company, I was instructed that a theme is simply a topic or concept that the author focuses on. If you look up King Lear themes, I think you'll see that most of the sites list the themes as one- or two-word topics. I certainly understand your position. If you'd like, I could send you a Word copy and you could make any changes you like. In order to do this, you will have to email me at home; then I'll send the bookmarks as an attachment. My home email address is prbevins@netins.net.

I bought "The Great Gatsby Figurative Language" crossword and think it is great! Could you possibly provide me with a key of the TYPE of Figurative Language you intended each clue to be? I was hoping that was going to be the solutions to the puzzle. I see your note that each quote is either a simile, metaphor, hyperbole or personification. It would be REALLY helpful if you'd supply which one each clue is. Pegi Bevins  (TpT Seller)
I understand your concern. Students should learn that a quotation is just that--and not a "version" of the quotation. How about if I state in the instructions to students that the quotations aren't verbatim? Do you think that would be acceptable to teachers? Sometimes the quotations are just too long to expect students to solve, yet their content is so good that I hate not to use them.

Yes, the puzzles are challenging, so I always suggest that teachers provide hints as necessary. I don't normally provide the hints because then they're permanent and some teachers don't like that.

Thanks so much for being willing to have this dialogue. Sometimes I get comments/complaints, and when I send a message back asking for further feedback, the buyer never gets back to me, so I'm not always sure how to proceed as far as improving the product. I would like to send you a free product for your trouble. I offer a synonym/antonym vocab crossword on "Raisin," but I also have products on 29 high school-level books/plays. My school uses Time Machine for our classic 6th grade novel and War of the Worlds for 7th grade. I notice that you rate this unit for high school. I am an experienced teacher and can adapt materials to an extent, but don't want to purchase something that I need to revise extensively or can't use at all. In your opinion, could it possibly be useful for middle school?

Absolutely. At the high school I taught at we used both novels for 10th grade, but I have seen them used for middle school as well. The Bookmarks Plus is simply a handy reading aid. You can look at a preview of it on its product page. Students will find the Word Merges challenging, but in a fun way. Thanks so much for your interest. I believe I will re-rate the product for m.s. through h.s. Might I ask what other books are taught in your school? You can reply again through TPT.

P.S.
Just so you know, there is also a War of the Worlds version of Bookmarks Plus

I believe you have a bookmark for The Scarlet Letter, but I do not see it on your page on TPT. Please advise.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that on the sample of your Sign of the Beaver trivia game, the answer to the first question is incorrect. Elizabeth George Speare was born in Melrose, Massachusetts - not Maine. Thought that might help for future purchasers. Thanks!

Hello Pegi. I spoke to you earlier in the year to have you make Shakespeare's Secret puzzles for me. I'd like to thank you. I am currently using them with a group of my high kids and they are over the moon for them!! You may recall that I am a gifted resource teacher and I work with multiple grade levels. One of my eighth grade team members contacted me about extension activities for their December novel, The Christmas Carol. I was wondering if you would be able to assist us in coming up with some puzzles.

Thanks so much,

Do you mean that you downloaded it and never used it, and now when you went to use it, it was no longer available? If so, that's crazy! I've never heard of downloads expiring. Please email me at prbevins@netins, tell me which product you purchased, and I'll send you a copy via email.

I am confused by the Bookmarks Plus... the sample shows hyperlinks that take me to places to purchase each puzzle individually. Am I purchasing a list of hyperlinks or the actual puzzles?

The preview provides you with a link to the free Animal Farm version of Bookmarks Plus. All BP's follow the same format, so you can get an idea what the TKAM includes based on the free AF bookmarks. A preview usually includes a smaller version of the actual product; since it's pretty hard to provide a small version of a bookmark, I chose to simply guide potential buyers to the free product. If I provided a view of the actual bookmarks, I would basically be giving it away, since anyone could copy it and make copies from the preview. Once you look at the free AF version, you can decide whether you want to buy the TKAM bookmarks. The other links take you to my other products based on TKAM. Let me know if I haven't cleared this up for you. Thanks for your interest in my product!

Hi Pegi!
I was wondering how you make your template for your ThemeQuotes. I want to do a similar "GameQuotes" with some Language Arts/English generic questions that I use in my class and I just can't figure out how to do it. I have my quotes that I want to use, I just can't get the layout right. I suppose I could just write it out with my overhead pen, but yours look so professional. Could you help me out? Lesia

It doesn't look as if my products fit neatly into any of those categories. Also, they are all based on novels and nonfiction book titles, so I imagine they have too narrow a focus for your purpose. Thanks for your interest, though.

I am in need of 20 printable activities in the area of high school English. I have objectives for each one, and they should be about 1-3 pages each. These activities will be used as part of an online test prep resource for schools, so I will need to have a release which will allow my company to use them in this way. I can pay $10 per activity. Please contact me for more information. ==Larry Coty

First, can I say I LOVE your products. I am a gifted teacher and they are the first product to fully engage my children. They are just wonderful. I wondered if you can make some materials for the book Shakespeare's Secret by Elise Broach. It is a newer book that has caught a great deal of interest and I obtained a class set of books but can't find very good material to accompany it.

I am interested in purchasing Portals to Literature: Animal Farm & Hatchet. However, the price of shipping is too high for me to go through with the purchase. Is it possible to combine the two books in one shipment and ship them using the USPS media mail rate? You may contact me privately at leaird@yahoo.com. Thanks for your time.

Five years' teaching experience. Fourteen years' experience as a writer and editor of products for language arts products (K-12) for educational publishing companies across the country.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Not all learning needs to be fun, but I am a firm believer in the value of word puzzles and games in the classroom when appropriate. Games can challenge students' social and cooperative skills; puzzles can challenge their knowledge of spelling, vocabulary, and almost all other language skills--and the best thing is, students are hardly aware that it's happening!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I began creating ThemeQuotes games when I taught high school literature. I wanted something to end a book unit that was fun for students and reinforced the themes of the book. Having always been a lover of thought-provoking quotations (I had hundreds of them plastered on the walls of my classroom), I came up with the idea of having students solve theme-related quotations (ThemeQuotes) hangman-style. That worked fine, but I felt it needed something more. That's when I decided to create Trivial Pursuit-style questions that students would answer in teams and then, if they got the answer right, suggest letters for the ThemeQuote puzzle. The first team to solve the puzzle won the round. My students loved it, and I went on to create 23 editions for my own line of products after leaving teaching. Fun with Great Works seemed like a natural extension of that product. Again, the product is used to "top off" a book unit. The puzzles are fun but also challenging to students in many ways. I also started creating Bookmarks Plus while teaching, because I wanted students to have a quick reference to the basic elements of the book and the vocabulary words I would later test them on. I am also the author of two published books aimed at encouraging "normal" kids to accept kids with disabilities.
