Buyer re: Emergent/Beginning Reader Series, Level 3A-10 Books w/Comprehension Questions
Hello! I am very interested in your product. Would you be able to tell me what approximately what level these books are in relation to Fountas and Pinnel guided reading levels? Thank you!

The Beginning Reader Series is a set of 60 progressive 8-page mini-books that gradually increase in word count, number of sentences per page and sentence length. Level 3 contains books 51 through 60 in the series. Level 3 consists of simple, short stories. The books average three to four sentences per page. The first five stories in Level 3 have a total word count of 138 words. There are 38 new words in these books. (The remaining 100 words were introduced in the previous 50 books. 15 of the new words are from word families previously introduced.) The last five books have a total word count of 161 words with 28 new words. Significant effort was put into reinforcing words from previous books, choosing new words from word families already in the series, and supporting common sight words.

Level 3 is intended to be a set of supplemental stories that students who have been in first grade for a few months can read with very little assistance. They are intended to be an “I can” style of book. The vast majority of words in the series are decodable. Because Level 3 are stories, I occasionally had to use a few harder words to carry the meaning of the story. Only 16 of the 138 words in the first five stories are more than four letters long.

The easiest way for you to decide how the stories fit into your reading curriculum, would be to review the word lists. If you send me your e-mail address, I will be pleased to forward the word lists for all 60 mini-books in the Beginning Reader Series. You can write me at PhonicsAdvantageJanet@aol.com.

Thank you for your interest in this product, and for your efforts to search for quality products that can help children learn to read.

Sincerely,
Janet

Cathy S. re: Phonics Beginner Readers 30 Easy Phonics Poems to Introduce Letter Sounds
I am so excited about using your phonics poems next year. I just downloaded them and happened to notice something that is one of my pet peeves. :) Would you please change something on your "Shop Till You Drop" poem? "Till" is a word that has its own meaning(s). When used as it is here, it means "until" and should be spelled like 'til--with an apostrophe and one "l." Thank you!

Buyer re: Free Phonics Skills Test by Phonics Advantage™
Hi!

Over the summer I am tutoring a child who will be in fourth grade next school year. Her parents are concerned that she does not know diographs (ch, eigh, ea, etc.) along with short vowel sounds and silent e. Would this be an appropriate assessment for her?

Thank you!

The Free Phonics Test is checking for the basics. Individual letter sounds, and short vowel sounds are tested, along with long vowel sounds made by Silent E or Double vowels (ea, ee, oa, etc.). The Free Phonics Test would be a very good place to begin. The tests can help you to determine if a student is sounding out (using decoding skills) or guessing. If you e-mail me at PhonicsAdvantageJanet@aol.com I can send you sheets on consonant blends, diphthong vowels and digraphs for more advanced testing.
Remember, for someone just getting out of 3rd grade, you want to make tutoring fun while still focusing on serious phonics/reading strategies. If Silent E is a problem, I urge you to try playing Silent Magic. If consonant blends need addressing, try improvising the Build-A-Word games by making blends tiles. My Word Family Bingo is posted for free. The Free Phonics Test comes with strategy suggestions. I also suggest reading phonics poems - rhythm and rhyme can make reading fun. Above all, remember that reading is identifying SOUND symbolized by letters or letter combinations. If you use worksheets, be sure to review them verbally.

Buyer re: Phonics Strategies for Older Students by Phonics Advantage™
Thank you for your answer and descriptions. I still wish you could put up some preview that was viewable -- even if it is the same images in the sample images -- usually I can zoom on them and get an idea of the words. I buy a lot of phonic stuff and the money adds up (just like in the $ store). I do have a particular idea of what I'm looking for -- when I can see a sample with the words readable-- then I can make better purchase choices. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your interest in Phonics Strategies for Older Students. I have added more details of the packet content in the product description in the Phonics Advantage store. I hope that it will give you insight into what the packet contains.

Nonsense Words reading sheets are used to give the student practice in decoding words. The Nonsense Words reading sheets are used for building a foundation of how various letter sounds go together. They enable practice with phonograms that may not appear in small (real) words. I am able to rotate 33 beginning consonant blends and digraphs with pretend words, allowing students to practice sounds often enough to master even the harder or more rarely occurring blends. All the Nonsense Words reading sheets focus on vowel sounds and how they are combined with ending consonants to form phonograms to help the student recognize both word families and how syllables in longer words often end with a phonogram.

Phonogram Review Sheets, Pronunciation Clues, Spelling Clues, sheets on Word Endings and Suffixes all use real words with an emphasis on longer words which have been divided into syllables to enable students to learn that big words are made up of smaller parts; and if you decode the smaller parts, large words are not threatening.

Worksheets place an emphasis on phonograms and dividing words into syllables, giving students practice in reducing long words into more manageable parts.

If you still have more questions, please feel free to contact me at: PhonicsAdvantageJanet@aol.com.

Hi! Do you mean they are pro or con the freebies...?

Phonics Advantage  (TpT Seller)
Hello,
I am sorry. I really do not know what your question is referring to: (“Do you mean pro or con the freebies?”) If you tell me the name of a product or products, I will look over the description and try to clear up any misunderstanding. The first reason I list products for free is because I’ve used them in the past and I believe in the positive impact they can have on helping a student learn to read. I want the product to reach as many students as possible. A second reason I may post something for free is that it may require a teacher’s time – it is not a simple “download and go” product - many games require printing and laminating, or the printable readers require printing, folding and stapling. I believe these products can make learning to read easier or more fun, and offering them for free is my thank you to the teacher for the time it takes them to prepare the product.
If you are referring to the Emergent/Beginning Reader Series, the content of the readers is identical, the format is just different. The printable version requires time to print and fold, but they can be sent home in backpacks. The iPad version requires no additional teacher time. Students can read the books on a computer in the classroom, or the teacher can e-mail the Beginning Readers to students’ homes where they can read them on home computers, iPads and tablets.
Please feel free to contact me at PhonicsAdvantageJanet@aol.com
Thank you for your interest in helping children learn to read.

Lavinia Pop  (TpT Seller) re: Phonogram Spelling Worksheets - Letter Sounds and Decoding Skills
Hello. I just LOVE the poems that you have made to go along with all your units! Would you ever consider selling a license for the poems - without the phonics content - for personal and/or commercial use? My son will be starting first grade this year (in Australia) and he needs some extra practice with his multiple phonograms. I would like to make him some booklets, reading comprehension work and worksheets and would like to include some of your poems. What you have created is FANTASTIC, but my son finds it challenging to concentrate for a long period of time without lots of pictures, colour, etc. Please consider this, as it would REALLY make my life so much easier :)
Thank you for taking the time to read this,
Kind regards,
Lavinia

Lavinia,
Thank you for your positive comments. I am honored that you wish to include my poems in booklets you are working on.
Your TPT store carries many quality products that correspond to the reading level of many of my phonics poems.
I am very open to the idea of you using my poems (without the phonics section) in your material and selling the products in your store for consideration of a percentage of the royalities earned.
I hope you will contact me to discuss this further. I am excited to see how you will dress up the poems with graphics and expand them into your booklets.
Warm regards,
Janet Sidman Ruszkowski
