Hi! I just bought your Grit Tracker and additional licenses so that I can share with my first grade team. Love the name and all the options! Is there any way that I can edit the word lists? We are using the word lists that come with Journeys rather than the Fry list. Thanks--

Thank you so much for purchasing :)
I wasn't able to make it editable due to copyrights, but if you'd like to send me the word lists, I can type them in & email them back to you. Please also let me know how many words you would like on each tracking page (i.e.: they are in groups of 25 in the packet). My email is debrosse.jennifer@gmail.com
Thanks again, Jen

Of course! The Table of Contents... I missed it - didn't know it was at the end. It will be very helpful. What I will do is jot on top of each sheet the skill for my quick reference. I guess if there was a way to put a header or footer you could do the same. Of course all that takes is... time! :-) Thank you very much. Your materials are so well done.

Kathleen A. re: Blending Through the Year
Hello!
I own this now...I think it will be quite helpful. If I had a suggestion it would be to put in each corner the skill/collection of skills the sheet is addressing. It would save time for those of us poring through the pages - we wouldn't have to read through the words to see if it is a single skill, a review, or a combo. Also, am I correct that the b+w set is not the entire set? Just checking...I am a bit too tired to compare the sets fully.
Thank you for your work.

Hi, thank you for your purchase :)
I just tried downloading it and all the B/W pages (pages 201-400) were there. Please let me know if your copy is incomplete and I can send it to you!
I put the table of contents in the preview and pages 401-402. I printed these out and put them in a binder with the color copies. I used the color copies exclusively 2 years ago. This past year, I ended up printing multiple copies of the B/W pages for my students and had them color-code (i.e.: underlining vowel teams). Who knows what next year's students will bring!
On the table of contents I indicate either the individual phonics skill or used a general "Long Vowels" if it's a review/mixed. I wonder if there's an easier way to label them on each page? I'm definitely open to suggestions to work smarter, not harder!
Thanks again...I really appreciate it!

Thank you very much for your prompt and thoughtful answer...it was not too much info, believe me...I've been teaching quite a while but still collecting input, especially regarding challenged young learners who do not have home support. I look forward to using your products and will probably be in touch again. Thank you and be well!

Kathleen A. re: Speedy Sight Words Fluency Builder
This may be an odd question, but if the students don't know the words, how do they practice independently? Are the sheets also sent home (assuming parents will practice them)? If you work on sight word memorization during the day, how does that work, with different students up to different rows/sheets? Thank you for your input!

Positively Learning  (TpT Seller)
Hi, that's a great question :)
Our students learn 5-6 sight words every week. We tackle them during morning meeting, throughout the school day, and then their homework includes practice activities. Because this packet focuses on fluency, I use it mid-to-end of the week after they have had a chance to become familiar with the week's set of sight words. I also send the pages home for students needing extra practice.
Our first graders actually focus on Fry words 201-400, so this packet is used primarily with my intervention small groups. I went ahead and made every student their own set of pages (copied double-sided and stapled). We use different colored markers to indicate where we left off. We started off using them chorally, but some students accelerated and some students needed more time.
My students are motivated by egg timers and are always trying to beat their previous time. This past year, I've also used these pages to "spy" the sight word, i.e.: where do you spy the sight word MAKE?
This is probably more information than you were interested in, but please let me know if I can provide anything additional :)
Thanks, Jen

I'd be happy to add the CCSS on the bottom side margin for each page. Was there a particular standard (or grade) you were looking for? I use the blending boards for 1st grade, but I plan on adding the following standards for K-2: R.F.K.3, R.F.1.3 a-g, R.F.2.3. Please let me know what you think...I should be able to upload the revised version by the end of the day.

TPT has advised us that similar marks may appear if the Adobe Reader (free download for reading pdfs) needs to be updated. If that doesn't resolve the issue, please send me an email at debrosse.jennifer@gmail.com and I can try sending you the pdf from there. I did just open the file on my laptop and didn't see the marks, so hopefully the update will fix the problem quickly for you! Please keep me posted and thanks again!

TinyGrads  (TpT Seller) re: All Is Love Number Cards for Activities
Hello!

We saw your freebie, and would love to put it up on TinyGrads.com as a free download there as well by our large community of teachers and parents.

Though our policy of no "external links" prevents us from "linking" to your TpT store directly, we'd love to give you credit, put your name and TpT ID picture up there, and use text to point our parents and teachers to your store where they might want to purchase your “for sale” items from there.

We thought this might be a great a way to give you a little “free advertising” and for our community of parents and teachers (and the children they teach) to be able to enjoy your work as well.

We'll take care of loading your freebie up there, all we need is your permission.

Hope you have a great day!

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks!

McKenzie Robinson  (TpT Seller)
Hello! My name is McKenzie Robinson and I am a special education teacher at East Midvale Elementary in Midvale, Utah. This past year, I spearheaded a project at our school to provide parents with resources to assist their children at home with academics and ran across your wonderfully designed materials!

Our school population comes from low-socioeconomic families of multiple ethnicities and nationalities that are highly transient. Our school was motivated to empower parents to work with their children on academic skills at home. However, when we encouraged parents to work with students at home, we were often met with the question, “How?” Many parents would love to assist their students but lack the knowledge of how to do so other than trying to complete homework. Other parents find that helping their students with homework results in conflict and frustration. We wanted to provide parents with a positive way to assist their students in academic skills.

Since developing this project for our school, the word has spread and many others are interested in implementing similar programs and are looking for assistance. I would like to share the resources I found with them.
Would you be willing to let me list your website and resources on this list of activities to share with others? I love your designs and feel they can truly help families around the world.

Please let me know whether or not you give me permission to link your website/blog/activity. I would be happy to share the final list with you as well.

Thank you for your hard work to develop resources to assist children and teachers! You are truly appreciated!

Sincerely,
McKenzie Robinson

With our first graders, we pronounced "robot" with the schwa on the second syllable. Do you pronounce the second o as a short vowel? Now I'm trying it both ways and wondering if it may be more of a dialect issue. We are using "robot" again this week as we introduce open and closed syllables. I will check more into it - thanks again!

Thanks for your kind words! To play the game, distribute the cards evenly among the students playing. The student with the "start" card begins the game by saying "I have like, who has came?" The student holding the card "I have came..." reads his or her card and the game continues until the last card is played. I use this game near the end of our Silent E unit to assess how my students are decoding/reading the CVCe pattern.
Thanks for your question!

Thanks! Yes, I do just use it for nouns, adjectives, and verbs with my first graders. Our word walls start off with high frequency (sight) words, number and color words, and the students' names. We also add names as they come up...this is when more verbs are added. I've also used these spinners in my reading intervention groups when we explore or reread our books.

This is a great resource! Will you be making one like it for the second and third hundred sets of Fry words? I love how 5 words repeat on each page to build fluency.

Thanks for your question! I just looked through my clipart and, unfortunately, none of it included Canadian money. I think it's a great idea! I'll keep my eyes open for it & post an update here.

Buyer re: Sight Word Soccer!
I'm wondering if I am able to edit to include my choice of words? I love the game and the idea but would need to adjust the words for my lower kids. Thanks!

I apologize - I'm just seeing this question now!
The soccer packet is not editable due to clipart/copyright restrictions. There's a blank template to print duplicates of and write in your words, or you may email them to me & I'd be happy to create an additional set!
Thanks!

Hi, thanks for your question! I use these pages with my 1st graders to review the skills we've learned throughout the year. Please check out the preview and/or the 2 free pages at my blog to further help determine the level:

Hello,
I am writing you in regards to the Teacher Appreciation Jack Pot. I made a huge error. I was so excited on Sunday I spent hours and hours on a very slow computer going to every site that participated. I might have looked around a bit and became a follower. I was so inspired by all of you bloggers. Anyways, I went to every single site and added the TPA Freebie to my wishlist because the computer I was on has a virus and was not cooperating. SSSLLLOOOWWW!!!! So I thought if I just add it to my wish list on Monday morning I will download them on my school computer where I do all or most of my school work anyway. I was so excited I woke up super early so I could get to school and download them. Come to find out you had to pay for them. I wanted to cry. I emailed tpt and when they finally got back to me they said unfortunately there was nothing they could do. I was suppose to download them. I don’t recall ever reading that anywhere but I am very new to all of this. They said I had to email each one of you individually. Yes, then and there I just about started to cry. I had 120 items I added to my wishlist. I was on the computer all day Sunday doing this.
I am just wondering if you would be so kind to email or what ever you have to do so that I can download your freebie. I thought I would try! Thank you for your creative inspiring blog!!

Thanks for your question. I'm sorry to hear this! I just tried downloading and it worked, but I read on a teaching message board that other people were having trouble last night downloading different files. Please check back to see if it works now for you. I also can email the Bunny Time pdf if you want to reply with your email address. Thanks again!

I was wondering what the "game" really is about...I can't quite picture what the kids would have to do. Sorry if thats an odd question.

That's a great question!
Here's how I have my students play:
Students select a card (I usually hold the deck or you could set the cards in a pile facedown). If it's a text card (R2D2), the student will read it & if they are successful, they keep the card and the turn is over. This repeats for each player. If a Yoda card is drawn, the student receives an additional turn (and keeps the card). If a Darth Vader card is drawn, the student has to turn in all of his or her cards. I shuffle the cards back into the deck.
It's a fast paced game & my students really enjoy it. I print out 2 pages of the Yoda and Darth Vader cards so there are extras in the card deck, which makes it more exciting! The game ends after a designated amount of time or when you run out of cards (if you don't shuffle them back in).
This activity also works well as an assessment (using observation and the tracking sheet included) or as flashcards. My students used this game earlier in the school year, so now I store 2 sets of the text cards (R2D2) to be used to independently play Concentration.
Hope this helps and thank you for asking for clarification!

Thank you for your kind words! This set includes only Long E with the -ee and -ea spellings. I plan on uploading other long vowel centers soon & then a "mixed" vowel activity. My own students can always use the extra practice and review! Thanks again!
