McKenzie Robinson  (TpT Seller)
Hello! My name is McKenzie Robinson and I am a special education teacher at East Midvale Elementary in Midvale, Utah. This past year, I spearheaded a project at our school to provide parents with resources to assist their children at home with academics and ran across your wonderfully designed materials!

Our school population comes from low-socioeconomic families of multiple ethnicities and nationalities that are highly transient. Our school was motivated to empower parents to work with their children on academic skills at home. However, when we encouraged parents to work with students at home, we were often met with the question, “How?” Many parents would love to assist their students but lack the knowledge of how to do so other than trying to complete homework. Other parents find that helping their students with homework results in conflict and frustration. We wanted to provide parents with a positive way to assist their students in academic skills.

Since developing this project for our school, the word has spread and many others are interested in implementing similar programs and are looking for assistance. I would like to share the resources I found with them.
Would you be willing to let me list your website and resources on this list of activities to share with others? I love your designs and feel they can truly help families around the world.

Please let me know whether or not you give me permission to link your website/blog/activity. I would be happy to share the final list with you as well.

Thank you for your hard work to develop resources to assist children and teachers! You are truly appreciated!

Sincerely,
McKenzie Robinson

How is "robot" schwa?

Thanks for your question!
With our first graders, we pronounced "robot" with the schwa on the second syllable. Do you pronounce the second o as a short vowel? Now I'm trying it both ways and wondering if it may be more of a dialect issue. We are using "robot" again this week as we introduce open and closed syllables. I will check more into it - thanks again!

Thank you for the awesome packet! Could explain how to use the "I have, who has" cards? Thank you!

Positively Learning  (TpT Seller)
Thanks for your kind words! To play the game, distribute the cards evenly among the students playing. The student with the "start" card begins the game by saying "I have like, who has came?" The student holding the card "I have came..." reads his or her card and the game continues until the last card is played. I use this game near the end of our Silent E unit to assess how my students are decoding/reading the CVCe pattern.
Thanks for your question!

Just downloaded this awesome resource! Could you please explain parts of speech- do you just use noun, adjective, verb?

Positively Learning  (TpT Seller)
Thanks! Yes, I do just use it for nouns, adjectives, and verbs with my first graders. Our word walls start off with high frequency (sight) words, number and color words, and the students' names. We also add names as they come up...this is when more verbs are added. I've also used these spinners in my reading intervention groups when we explore or reread our books.

Did you happen to make this set with the tens column on the right? That would match my hundred's chart on the wall. Even a chart to 120 would be great now to match with CCSS. I love your ideas.

How do you play the Lucky Ducky game?
January 24, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Positively Learning  (TpT Seller)
The Lucky Ducky game includes text cards featuring words with the /k/ spelled ck. Students take turns drawing the cards and reading the word. The game includes include "Lucky Duck" which can be an extra turn or "Quack Quack" which could be skip a turn and/or return all your cards (at your discretion). This is a common game that I've also seen called "Bam" and "Blast." I left it open-ended for the teacher to decide, but now I will update and add game direction ideas! I hope your students enjoy it & thank you for your question.

I purchased the Silent e Learning Activities because the thumbnail showed flashcards with the pigeon on them, however when I puchased the packet, the cards that are pictured were not included. There are just plain cards with long vowel words and there is the "I have, who has..." cards, but no cards with a word and the pigeon picture. I purchased it specifically for those cards that were shown in thumbnail 4. Do you have those? The table of contents on the thumbnails list other things that were not included as well... Like the sorting mat and the 5 activity pages.

Hi, I apologize for not seeing this question sooner!
I checked the product and there should be 10 model sentences (pages 3 and 4) that have traceable font. Page 4 is the thumbnail on the product listing. The same words from the sentences are also featured individually in traceable font to print and cut. These are the sight words from the sentences (is, the, have, do, there, etc.). If these aren't showing up when you download from your purchase order, please let me know & I can email the pdf file. Thank you very much for your question!

Hello,
I am writing you in regards to the Teacher Appreciation Jack Pot. I made a huge error. I was so excited on Sunday I spent hours and hours on a very slow computer going to every site that participated. I might have looked around a bit and became a follower. I was so inspired by all of you bloggers. Anyways, I went to every single site and added the TPA Freebie to my wishlist because the computer I was on has a virus and was not cooperating. SSSLLLOOOWWW!!!! So I thought if I just add it to my wish list on Monday morning I will download them on my school computer where I do all or most of my school work anyway. I was so excited I woke up super early so I could get to school and download them. Come to find out you had to pay for them. I wanted to cry. I emailed tpt and when they finally got back to me they said unfortunately there was nothing they could do. I was suppose to download them. I don’t recall ever reading that anywhere but I am very new to all of this. They said I had to email each one of you individually. Yes, then and there I just about started to cry. I had 120 items I added to my wishlist. I was on the computer all day Sunday doing this.
I am just wondering if you would be so kind to email or what ever you have to do so that I can download your freebie. I thought I would try! Thank you for your creative inspiring blog!!

Positively Learning  (TpT Seller)
That's a great question!
Here's how I have my students play:
Students select a card (I usually hold the deck or you could set the cards in a pile facedown). If it's a text card (R2D2), the student will read it & if they are successful, they keep the card and the turn is over. This repeats for each player. If a Yoda card is drawn, the student receives an additional turn (and keeps the card). If a Darth Vader card is drawn, the student has to turn in all of his or her cards. I shuffle the cards back into the deck.
It's a fast paced game & my students really enjoy it. I print out 2 pages of the Yoda and Darth Vader cards so there are extras in the card deck, which makes it more exciting! The game ends after a designated amount of time or when you run out of cards (if you don't shuffle them back in).
This activity also works well as an assessment (using observation and the tracking sheet included) or as flashcards. My students used this game earlier in the school year, so now I store 2 sets of the text cards (R2D2) to be used to independently play Concentration.
Hope this helps and thank you for asking for clarification!

I saw your posting on the Sellers Forum page of Teachers Pay Teachers; so, I thought I would look at your freebie. It is top quality! I have just one suggestion. Use the footer to put the copyright symbol, your name and date of creation on each page. Items, especially free ones, have been "stolen" from TPT and posted on other sites to be sold. You have to protect all of your creations.

If you have time, I’d appreciate your input on my freebie listed below. It goes with an article I am posting on my blog on 1/4/12. http://gofigurewithscipi.blogspot.com/ I teach math and become weary of teachers who drill, drill, drill. Your product is an excellent example of practice, not drill.
