I have been a kindergarten teacher since 2003. I have a Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Early Childhood Education. Prior to teaching kindergarten I worked with children ranging in age from infant to preschool.
I believe that early childhood classrooms should focus on learning rather than teaching. A successful teacher provides exciting lessons, through which students can explore, discuss, use inquiry, and apply knowledge being learned. An actively engaged classroom of interested students will lessen discipline problems as well as increase learning. In this type of environment, children can develop and direct their own learning instead of constant teacher instruction. In this student directed process a wide spectrum of concepts and content areas are taught in a hands-on and creative environment. This approach should focus on the process rather than the product. The process, mistakes and all, is where the true learning takes place and children learn through deduction, teamwork, collaboration, and trial by error. Throughout this process I believe it is important to focus on the child’s successes, rather than their failures, and build strong relationships with students and their families.

I am a big believer in public education. I believe that all students can learn at high levels and it is our job as a school and community to provide the environment, resources, and quality instruction in order for them to be successful. As a kindergarten teacher I believe my job is even more critical. The experience students and families have during kindergarten is the gateway into many years of education. I work hard to build relationships, gain trust, and create partnerships in order to provide a positive and successful learning experience for both the students and their families. Teachers not only provide quality instruction but also wear many other hats. They are public relations officers, nurses, counselors, and family specialists! I feel so fortunate because each day I go to work and have the opportunity to change lives, teach new concepts, and create a learning environment in which students are excited to discover new things and grow!
