I've been teaching since 1996 - as a first grade teacher, adjunct at my alma mater (University of Montevallo) and as an Instructional Coach for the Alabama Reading Initiative. Whether working with students or teachers - I love teaching! My specialty is in Foundational Skills and Intervention for struggling readers. Recently, I received training in Orton-Gillingham methodology through the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education.
I believe in a balanced approach to teaching and learning. It is important to remember the overarching goal of creating strategic readers while paying careful attention to specific skill interferences.
Highest Honors Award, summa cum laude Outstanding Graduate Student in Early Childhood Member of Graduate Honors Advisory Council Superior Academic Achievement Award
I earned both a BS in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and an MA in Early Childhood Education from the University of Montevallo.
I have been happily married for 16 years and am the mother of 10 year old twins! :) My time outside of school is spent with family and church. I love to read (especially mysteries), cook, sew, and scrapbook!
