Hi there. I am thinking about an author study with my second grade students. Do you think this can work for this grade level? I was trying to read your thumbnails to see if the language is appropriate for 2nd graders, but cannot read them well enought to know. Thank you.

The Author Study Dinner Project is very involved. I might use bits and pieces of it with my more advanced 2nd graders, but probably not the “average” 2nd grader.
Here is a dessert example:
Putting it into Practice – create a piece of unique writing that reflects the overall style…of the author you have chosen.
Here is an appetizer example:
The Writer’s Words – find and read interviews with the author and determine how he/she views the writing process….develop a page overview.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I am a public school teacher and have taught second, third, fifth, sixth, and seventh grades. Second is where I am currently teaching and it is by far my favorite!!!
MY TEACHING STYLE
I believe that all students can and want to learn! In order to learn students need to be engaged and participate in lessons. My materials encourage student engagement, participation and collaboration. I believe that collaboration is one of the keys to student success and complete understanding.

Making it through each year and seeing the amazing growth in each student is a reward in itself. Creating materials that encourage student learning is the biggest reward of all.
