I just downloaded your Complete Vocabulary Unit 2: Greek & Latin Affixes and Roots, FREE! How generous of you! This is a wonderful unit. I intent to purchase your other vocabulary units, also. I am unsure about your weekly vocabulary practice exercises. Do the students make out the character, setting, etc. slips only one time, then choose from the choices of all the students in the class for each new unit? Or do they create new slips for themselves with each new unit?

Hello! Glad it will be helpful :) I have always had all students jot down one of each, collect the slips (separately by category so you can then pass them out separately) and have each student choose one of each category. It turns into a fun activity for students and they look forward to it by the end of the units! You could do it the other way you've mentioned as well, I suppose!

For this activity, I actually just went to the local dollar store a bought a variety of random things--crazy necklaces & other jewelry, swim goggles, sunglasses, hats, socks, rain bonnets, anything that I could find that I thought would spark creativity.

Hello,
I do not have the additional quizzes for Units 1 and 3. I had created the extra quizzes in Unit 2 for one particular class I was teaching at the time. The quizzes in Units 1 and 3 can be adapted easily, though, by providing a word bank of the five answer options in Part 1 and breaking the one section of ten sentence completion questions in Part 3 into two sections of five sentences with accompanying word banks for the choices.

Hi, Rebecca. I bought your Persuasion Packet and PowerPoint. I am going to use them next week in my 8th grade language arts classes. I just had a couple of quick questions for you…
At the end of your PowerPoint on the first review slide, are you asking which technique is being used for each bullet point that you listed? That was my first thought, but as I looked at it longer, I wasn’t sure since at the top it says “In the EXAMPLE below.†I thought the slide would have three separate examples that each need an answer, but then all three bullet points seem to be similar, so is it just one answer?… Okay – sorry – but now that I am looking into it further, those are not the propaganda techniques but the APPEAL, so each bullet point has an answer of pathos, ethos, and logos?... I swear to you I am not slow, it’s just that I am only in my third year teaching, and each year I have tried something different using my own resources that I scrounge from here and there. Your stuff looks really good, and I just want to make sure I’m comfortable presenting it and that I know all the answers. :)

I think that jr. high (grades 7-9?) would do just fine with it. It's a pretty simple format, and the routine is the same for each unit. I have used the same setup for grades 9-12, I just used different word lists each year. I think it's actually really good to get students into the routine of looking at the different word parts as soon as possible, and I don't think jr. high is too young for this by any means. I tried to keep the concept pretty general so that you can adapt it for any specific needs of your students.

Hello! My vocabulary lists worked very well in my classes for many years :) I only include one creative writing activity total, but I used that activity with each word list. It's very versatile, easy to incorporate, and often ended up being one of my students' favorite activities of the entire semester! And as far as answers keys go--there is not a key included in the Complete Vocabulary Unit 1 document with the lists, quizzes, and creative writing activity, BUT the keys are available as a free download found with the rest of my products. I do have Complete Vocabulary Unit 2 and Unit 3 available as well; however, I have not yet posted the keys for the quizzes to these units. I will have them posted as free downloads by the end of the week though, in case you like the first set of lists and/or want other options. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and have a great last few months of school!

My classes are normally very interactive. My students participate in discussion daily, whether it is with a partner, in small groups, or as a whole group. Learning is student-centered, and projects and writing assignments form the basis of most major assessments.
