Hi Renee, I just downloaded Making Time for Art - near and dear to my heart. I wish I had thought to check out art on TPT a long time ago! I can't wait to explore your store, and your blog. One question I have, in general, is where to get quality prints when you need to show students art, without breaking the bank?
April 21, 2014 Report inappropriate comment
Renee Goularte Share2Learn
Hi There.... Thanks for your interest in my store. About art prints, truthfully, I just google the art that I want, look for a good resolution, and print one out with my printer for temporary use. When I do "looking at art" with kids, I usually tape a regular 8.5x11 print (from my printer) to a sheet of chart paper, and gather kids together on the floor so they can see it. Alternately, one could use a document camera and project the image on the wall/screen, or even print out four or five copies and have kids look more closely at them in small groups. I do own a very small handful of large prints that I use, but mostly I just print from the Internet.

Cool - and what I loved about this idea and the way you roll it out is the part that is brain based.

Each time they learn to strategize in a healthy environment like you described here -- they also learn how to do so in the next conflict they face.

In brain based terms -- they literally grow new neuron pathways for this new skill too many of us lack:-) It kind of refreshed my busy day to read your ideas - thanks Renee! Ellen

Particularly loved your brain based notion of two students crafting the same story and then required to bring their story back to her.

What a brilliant idea for that crazy day, when one spills much needed coffee before it even hits the gullet, runs on low fuel, or needs a reboot just to see straight again:-) Thanks Renee - hope your holidays bring you unexpected melodies! Ellen

Thank you, Ellen! I heard another teacher make this request of two boys on the playground who were arguing because one boy accused the other of some discretion. She just said, "Come back to me when you both have the same story." I felt it was a brilliant solution, as it took the teacher completely out of the problem and put it back into their own laps. The teacher did not need to make any judgments, guess at who was at fault, or punish anyone. She just needed to listen. When I began using this tactic, I found that once both children had the same story, they were fine with just moving on. It was very interesting and very easy.

Renee, you seriously crack me up! Not only did I add you to HOTP, I also added you to GT on TPT K-8 because you are! On another note, thank you so much for nominating me for Liebster Blog award. I had already received that award twice on the same day back in January. I was definitely still a new baby blogger and that shot my learning curve through the roof! Tiny Toes just recently nominated me again, also. After these 2 recent nominations (again) I decided I shouldn't bury the Liebster pin toward the bottom of my blog, so I moved it closer to the top. Here's my original post- http://desktoplearningadventures.blogspot.com/2013/01/i-stated-before-i-was-pleased-to-be.html Thank you again for the nomination, but I think since I've been an official winner for seven months, I should respectfully decline. Besides, 4 times is just piggy on my part. :) Have a lovely day!

Why, thank you, ma'am. On the Liebsterthingie, I think it was Mrs. Martin that nominated me first, then Tiny Toes, then CatiaD, all in the span of less than 24 hours. And I'm like, "huh? What the heck is that?" and then suddenly was horrified that I was going to have to do so much work. hahahaha. I sat on them for over a week. The worst part was that I don't really read blogs so I started looking for blogs that I *would* read if I did read blogs. hahahahaha. So no worries..... Again, thanks for the invites. I will have to remember which product I made last so I can post something. Mostly these days I just cruise the forums.....

Hi jerome. I looked at your store and I'm a bit confused. You have a free product (which I downloaded) that explains how to draw a parrot, and then you have a video that costs $8.50 that apparently does the same thing. What is the difference between the two? What makes the video something people will pay for if they can download directions for free?

For $8.50, buyers are going to need more information in your description, and it's a good idea to utilize all four thumbnails in the product posting. Also, I looked at the preview but there wasn't really anything there about drawing the parrot. Thus, your preview does not give any more information than your very short description.

I would include in your description what is included in the video ... a table of contents, so to speak. If your video is basically a video version of your free product, then I sincerely do not think anyone will purchase it at $8.50.

I hope this helps! Welcome to TpT, by the way!

Renee Goularte Share2Learn
Hi Sawyersmom.... The "Found Object Stamp Patterns" and "Line Pattern Rubbings" activities in this bundle specifically meet several of the 1st grade Visual Arts Standards for California. They are listed at the ends of the lessons. I suspect there may be some connection to some of the Math standards at the first grade level as well, but I have not checked on those. The other two activities in the bundle specifically meet standards for 2nd grade and 3rd grade Visual Arts Standards for California; keep in mind that my art activities are really adaptable in many ways to a variety of grade levels and could be revised to meet 1st grade standards.

I hope this helps. :-)

Hi Sketchy Guy. I don't know why the freebie would not open. It would download and it would *start* but then it just would not open. Is it a powerpoint file? Because I tried opening directly with powerpoint (rather than a double click) and got a message that it might be corrupt or a file type not supported by powerpoint.

I am on a Mac. Perhaps that is an issue. If so, you might want to figure that out, especially if you get the same thing with other people. Or maybe it's just me.

Actually, I am not a TpT buyer, really. I'm retired and just selling here. I just wanted to see more of your work. I really like your art style. :-)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a retired elementary school teacher / art educator, a working artist, and a writer. My professional teaching career began in San Jose, CA in 1988 in a third grade classroom. I soon moved to 2/3 combination classes and then spent four years teaching in a Multiage 1-2-3 program, which I started with a colleague. I have also taught a 4/5 combination class and Kindergarten, and have worked specifically with GATE students, ELL students, and at-risk students in all elementary grades, In my last two years of teaching before I retired in 2010, I taught Art to Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students for two years. For me, teaching Art was coming full circle. In addition to my work in the classroom, I have written articles on teaching, written lessons professionally, maintained a number of websites and blogs, and facilated math, language, and art workshops for teachers and parents.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in hands-on, active learning that touches all learning styles. I know from personal experience that visual literacy is an important component of the curriculum, and that creativity can be fostered and nurtured.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

The most cherished honors & awards I've received have been the feedback of now-adult former students.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have been a teacher, a writer, and an artist, and I am a perpetual student. I have a BA in Art and English from San Jose State University, where I earned Standard Secondary and Multiple Subjects teaching credentials, as well as a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a focus in Mathematics. I am also Montessori-certified. Beyond all this formal education, I have learned volumes from the many students I've taught over the years.
