Sawyersmom re: Art With Patterns
Do these activites match any of the 1st garde standards? I really want to purchase this because I love the looks of it but cannot come up with a content standard to go along with it- Help!

Hi Sawyersmom.... The "Found Object Stamp Patterns" and "Line Pattern Rubbings" activities in this bundle specifically meet several of the 1st grade Visual Arts Standards for California. They are listed at the ends of the lessons. I suspect there may be some connection to some of the Math standards at the first grade level as well, but I have not checked on those. The other two activities in the bundle specifically meet standards for 2nd grade and 3rd grade Visual Arts Standards for California; keep in mind that my art activities are really adaptable in many ways to a variety of grade levels and could be revised to meet 1st grade standards.

I hope this helps. :-)

Hi Sketchy Guy. I don't know why the freebie would not open. It would download and it would *start* but then it just would not open. Is it a powerpoint file? Because I tried opening directly with powerpoint (rather than a double click) and got a message that it might be corrupt or a file type not supported by powerpoint.

I am on a Mac. Perhaps that is an issue. If so, you might want to figure that out, especially if you get the same thing with other people. Or maybe it's just me.

Actually, I am not a TpT buyer, really. I'm retired and just selling here. I just wanted to see more of your work. I really like your art style. :-)

Good luck!

Hello Renee- I always see you giving people great feedback. Any chance you would take a quick look at my store and let me know what you think?

Also, I read one of your posts recently about having a page or two for people to download before they buy it. Can you tell me more about that? Thanks!

Hi Nichole,

I just took a quick look at your store and it seems like you have some very useful products. I can't really comment on your pricing because to me I am not getting enough detail about your products, which you can provide with a preview.

When you upload your products there is also an option to upload a smaller preview that buyers can download to get more details about your product. I have previews for all my products, so you might want to go to my store and just look to see what those look like. All my previews are not the same, so you might want to look at a few different ones. The object of the preview is to give the buyer more detail about the product and what it includes. Many buyers will not buy a product if there is not a preview so it's important to think about. One way to do a preview is to just take some of the pages of your product, slap a watermark over them and make them into a .pdf for download. Another way is to take some screen shots of different pages and make them into a collage and turn that into a .pdf for download. I have done my previews both ways.

Another thing I would recommend is that even for your one-page items, make a catchy cover page. The cover pages you do have are eye-catching, so you're on the right track there. But the ones with lots of little print do not attract the buyer. Make a colorful cover page with a title that can be read with the mouse-over.

I do encourage you to download the previews to a couple of my products to see what I am talking about.

I hope this helps!

Renee - I saw your post about helping me while I have my surgery. I truly believe that people do not realize how art and math are related. Could you share a short piece about some art project you did and how math was the key? Or something similar? E-mail me at calqlate@yahoo.com

Hi there.... These three art lessons go along with Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson, I Pledge Allegiance by Bill Martin, Jr., and Elmer by David McKee. Each of the lessons begins with a read-aloud that focuses not only on the content but also on the illustrations.

I saw your posting on the Sellers Forum page of Teachers Pay Teachers; so, I thought I would look at your newest product. It is very professional looking. The lesson plans are clear and easy to follow. I like having the visual examples as well. I teach math and continually see how art and math interrelated. Thanks for sharing you gift of art with us.

I'd love for you to to at any one of my freebies listed below and if you care to, give me some feedback as well.

Hi Scipi,

Thank you for looking at my art lessons and giving me feedback. I especially like that you think the product is very professional looking... that is important to me.

I did take a look at a few of your free items, and I think yours also look very professional. I especially like that they are not overloaded with "cuteness" which is something I tend to avoid. :-)

And I especially like your last page, with the "thank you" and invitation to visit your math blog. I hope you don't mind if I borrow this idea from you?

You are right that math and art have many intersections. If you feel like it, please take a look at my "Linking Math With Art" webpages at http://www.share2learn.com/artmathsamples.html

Thanks again for the feedback!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a retired elementary school teacher / art educator, a working artist, and a writer. My professional teaching career began in San Jose, CA in 1988 in a third grade classroom. I soon moved to 2/3 combination classes and then spent four years teaching in a Multiage 1-2-3 program, which I started with a colleague. I have also taught a 4/5 combination class and Kindergarten, and have worked specifically with GATE students, ELL students, and at-risk students in all elementary grades, In my last two years of teaching before I retired in 2010, I taught Art to Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students for two years. For me, teaching Art was coming full circle. In addition to my work in the classroom, I have written articles on teaching, written lessons professionally, maintained a number of websites and blogs, and facilated math, language, and art workshops for teachers and parents.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in hands-on, active learning that touches all learning styles. I know from personal experience that visual literacy is an important component of the curriculum, and that creativity can be fostered and nurtured.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

The most cherished honors & awards I've received have been the feedback of now-adult former students.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have been a teacher, a writer, and an artist, and I am a perpetual student. I have a BA in Art and English from San Jose State University, where I earned Standard Secondary and Multiple Subjects teaching credentials, as well as a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a focus in Mathematics. I am also Montessori-certified. Beyond all this formal education, I have learned volumes from the many students I've taught over the years.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

As a retired teacher, I substitute in former colleagues' classrooms, where I teach art whenever given the time.
