I just purchased your Volume of prisms review including cylinders scavenger hunt. I am not sure if I am overlooking it, but I cannot find the slide with the treasure chest. The answer to the diamond links back to the money stack, so it looks like the treasure chest is not needed, but it is on the answer key.

It looks like the answer to the purse is in cubic meters but it asks for the answer in cubic centimeters.

I love doing scavenger hunts, so I am excited to use this.

You're right on both counts! I think I reduced the number of questions for that scavenger hunt and forgot to adjust the answer key. And I also corrected the mistake on the question with the purse. I need to hurry up and make enough money with this to be able to hire an editor to catch my mistakes because it's so easy to overlook them when I'm checking my own work.

Thanks for the heads up and I'm glad you're enjoying the scavenger hunts!

I'm uploading a corrected version of the file right now if you want to re-download it.

Heh, small world. I actually just used this lesson in my class. You're more than welcome to include it in your digital library. I actually need to update the file online with some tweaks I made to it this year for my class. But with state testing right around the corner, I'm not overly confident that I'll get it done in a hurry. :)

If you don't have Microsoft Office there are still some options. Microsoft has a free PowerPoint Viewer for download (google search it and it should be easy to find). Or you can try one of the free Office alternatives out there. Open Office is one I've used in the past but there may be better ones.

Thanks for the heads up. When I was making that set, I remember going back over most of the different scavenger hunts with a calculator just in case I made a silly mistake. But I thought surely there was no way I would have made a mistake on the easiest one, so why go back and re-check it again? heh.

That's also one of the reasons I left them at .ppt files instead of converting them into .pdf files. Partly because it makes it easy to fix the odd mistake. But mostly because I know that if it was me buying the file, I'd appreciate being able to change/add/remove questions to better suit what I'm doing in my classroom.

I'm glad you like them and I hope this didn't cause you too much trouble in your classroom. :)

Heh, I followed you but never replied. I hope you've had some success on the site. Elementary math seems to do well from what I've seen. I need to become more well versed in the pacing and types of math problems that would be useful in an elementary class. My own intuition is no substitute for someone who's actually been there though.

Absolutely. It's just a regular PowerPoint file. I considered turning them into .pdf files at first, but as a teacher myself, I would probably find it handy to be able to tweak a worksheet or activity.

I can't take credit for inventing the idea of scavenger hunts, so I don't think it would be right for me to say no.

And honestly I think it's a useful tool for practice/review that I don't see used all that often. My area of expertise is pretty much just math. So if you've got some experience with another subject then you might be able to corner the market, as it were. I'm not sure how well it would work in literature or social studies, but I can see science being a good fit for sure.

Best of luck to you!

The idea with the second slide is for students to create their own route. On the first slide the practice the notation using the route that is mapped out. On the second slide they have to go a step farther and make both the route and the notation. I didn't want to animate anything on the second page since many of my students tended to just copy whatever I had done instead of thinking for themselves. Heh

I'm currently hammering out a volume unit... I wonder though, do you think you'd prefer something like that to be strictly skill practice or would you like more application problems and the like? There is a time for each type of problem, but I'm not sure which one most teachers would want out of something like this.

Sorry for not replying to you sooner. I get so few questions that I forget to click this button very often. I tried to recreate the problem you had and it seems to happen whenever I try to print in greyscale or black and white. For some reason powerpoint doesn't print a slide's background when you print in those modes, and the coordinate grid is the background I used for those slides. I looked online to see if there is a setting for that and it seems that some versions of powerpoint (maybe all of them?) will let you always print the background, although in my powerpoint 2010 I couldn't find that setting. So the only way I'd be able to do it is to print the slides in color.

Using them in a test or something is perfectly fine. My understanding of the tpt rules is that what wouldn't be okay is to sell in something where the shapes themselves are the main product... Like another pack of shapes. In an assessment, the questions you make using the shapes are the main product.

As for other shapes, I hasn't thought of doing tHat but it's a good idea. I'll see if I can get something done over the holidays.

I'm not sure that you asked this question in the right spot. The Scavenger Hunts I sell are meant to be printed and used without a smartboard or anything. That being said, I'd imagine that most smartboard lessons would work fine with a promethean. At their core what they both basically do is let you use the screen as the "mouse." For most things it'd be like using a different brand of keyboard or something... they all basically work the same.

Hmm, I know that I have an issue with the preview slides not always showing up correctly as well. It seems to happen when I try to make the text as big as possible so it is more readable. It could also be an issue with the Font. I'm just using whatever the default font is in Office 2007, but that font may not be the same one that older version of Office use.
Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully it wont be too much work to fix (although that's unlikely knowing my luck, heh) but I'll look into it.

I don't see why not. I sort of had the same question in relation to clip art and I found something in the TpT that basically said you can use clip art in things that you sell as long as the clip art isn't the primary focus of whatever it is you put up for sale. So you could use my shapes in a worksheet or activity, but something like just recoloring them and selling them yourself probably wouldn't be okay.
I'm not a lawyer, and as a teacher I'm too busy to spend time on here checking for that kind of stuff anyway. heh.

Long story short: Go ahead and use it to make new stuff with! :)

This is a Powerpoint file, so Word shouldn't be able to open it. I like using powerpoint to make worksheets because it is easier to move pictures and stuff around than with Word. Are you able to open the file and see the different slides? If you can see what it looks like then you can try print preview to see if anything comes up.
