This template is very easy to use. I have tried to make a template before and a great deal of problems making the boxes all the same size.

Remember that you can change the size of the font or the size and shape of the box to fit your definitions in the appropriate spots. You can also substitute a picture or graphic in that spot. Ron, thanks for the new upload of the Fitness squares. I have purchased 9 of these that relate to my cuuriculm. Would you be willing to share how you set these up so I can do more of them for my other subjects? the part I don't get is... is there only one way for students to put these together.... are the words on the outsides of the paper squares there to fill the space only or is there a pattern that must be followed?...

The 9 square is a vocabulary tool. It uses 9 words and their definitions. The idea is to cut the puzzle into its 9 pieces (actually rectangles) and students are to reassemble it so that the key words and their definitions match up. The perimeter has only extra key words. I recommend students work in pairs. An interesting way to differentiate would be to add graphics or pictures instead of definitions. In my experience students love the activity.

The 9 square activity is a vocabulary activity. The idea is that you cut it into the 9 squareas and students reassemble this back into its original form. Key words and definitions must match in the interior in all directions and is surrounded on the perimeter by vocabulary terms. Have the students try before you need a refund. Students usually enjoy the challenging activity.

There seems to be something missing from the video. I followed the instructions but it doesn't make sense. You can't make it fold and open the way you do it at the end. Plus where do you write the questions and answers? I was going to give this a bad rating but decided to wait to see if you could clear up the questions. Maybe the video was cut short or something. Hi Sandy, I am sorry the video was not clear enough for you. Let me start by saying the video should be about 4 1/2 minutes long (check to be sure it all downloaded for you). Next the questions are always written on the outside or as I tell my students when the flip lays flat. To get the flip effect fold the outside portion into the center and pop the mid-line fold up. Grab the corners of the center portion and they will pull apart. You can repeat the process by turning the whole thing over and repeating the process I just described. Make sure to look closely during the demonstration of how it works (the first minute or so). I know every teacher I have shown this to raves about how their kids enjoy the flip and willingly work on their vocabulary. You can even try send a strip with groups of kids. TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Mr. Rohac has been a science educator for over 25 years. He has years of experience working with ELL students in a science classroom in the San Bernardino USD. He has extensive background and training in curriculum development, assessment, teacher training, staff development programs and district compliance issues. As well as working for school districts in both Canada and the United States he has worked for School Research and Service as their science director. He helped design science curriculum based upon the California Science Frameworks and a data base of test questions, standard and authentic versions for each of the K-12 curricula. Mr. Rohac is currently working under Dr. David Ramirez at California State University at Long Beach teaching CLAD course, science education classes and SB1969 courses. He is also a private education consultant and has an impressive list of clients that includes a substantial number of school districts in California and 25 other states. It also includes a number of State Departments of Education, OBEMLA, Educational Agencies and county offices. He has been a guest speaker at the National Research Symposium for Bilingual Education, NABE, CABE, CATESOL, CASBE and many other conferences. Most recently he is one of the authors of Houghton Mifflin’s DiscoveryWorks science programs for grades K-6. He is actively sought after to work with school districts to consult on program design, teacher training and staff development programs. His training and presentations receive the highest scores. Teachers appreciate is practical approaches to teaching and the success it can bring.
