I have been a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) since 1987. My students have ranged in age from 5 to 21. For many years I was an elementary classroom teacher at a residential school for students who are blind and have low vision. I often focused on reading, writing, and assistive technology. Incorporating all subjects together to provide meaningful instruction has always been a focus for me. At this time I am an assistive technology consultant. I provide instruction to students and staff in the area of assistive technology for students who are blind or have low vision. I travel to local schools to provide consultation and instruction to students and staff. A very enjoyable part of my work is to offer distance education opportunities to assist teachers and pareducators in the area of assistive technology.

In the spring of 1987 I received my undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University in elementary education and in the education of students with visual impairements. In the 90’s I earned my master’s degree in teaching students with moderate/severe/profound disabilities from the University of Northern Iowa. My experience includes teaching students who are academically oriented to students who are in functional programs to meet their specific needs. My favorite subjects to teach are areas in assistive technology that involve computers and Braille note taking devices.
