TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Sandy is a special education teacher who does private tutoring, educational consultation, and freelance writing. She has nearly thirty years of combined classroom and one-on-one tutoring experience, as well as extensive experience with adult literacy development.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Sandy's teaching style is best described as eclectic. As a special education teacher working privately with students, she feels her job is to be aware of a multitude of techniques, methods and materials, then make the best possible match between student needs and methodology.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor's Degree in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Elementary Education from Bowling Green State University, 1980 Master's Degree in Moderate, Severe, Profound Cognitive Impairment and certification in Learning Disabilities from Indiana University at South Bend, 1986 Assorted workshops and trainings related to literacy, managing differently-abled learners and more, 1980-present.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Sandy lives in lower Michigan with her family. She works part-time at the county mental health agency teaching disabled adults to read and also works part-time tutoring students (in person and online) of all ages in nearly all academic areas. Sandy also is assisting with organizing a local volunteer literacy group, writes grants and designs curriculum and training materials for various organizations.
