Teacher of foreign language for 30+ years
It is all about the communication. Communication comes first, then reading, more communication, and then grammar. There sips nothing wrong with grammar, and the older geprammar book series (ALM FRENCH/ SPANISH) are actually more concise and clear. But again, developing the communication skills is the key. I have tried a million ways to get students to communicate, but the best way I ha e ever found is to BECOME the French person, throw in a tinsel wig, a black wig, and a red wig, and the students feel freer to converse!
