This looks absolutely wonderful, but can you tell me if the genre posters cover the Common Core Genre list: fable, narrative, fairytale, poem, rhyme, counting books, and alphabet books?

Thank you! :-)

Hi! I am a Kindergarten teacher here in Texas. I have a question for you. Does your school use CSCOPE for curriculum? If so, how long? Our district just rolled it out for us to begin using it. I love it, but many of my colleagues are overwhelmed and do not like it at all. Did anyone on your faculty have the same problems? Can you tell me how your school overcame the issues? Of course these questions are assuming you do use it. I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Yes, my district began using CSCOPE last year. It has been a huge struggle for most in our district. Our district hired teachers to write their curriculum for years. The Science Supervisor would enter view teachers that taught science and the science teachers who were very active with science, going to her meetings and participated a lot etc. were generally chosen by her to write science curriculum under her instructions, following the TEKS, worksheets made, six weeks test made, website noted with links for the teachers etc. We had an excellent curriculum! All the subject areas were written and the teachers were well paid for their expertise and then during the beginning of the new school year, presented to their specific grade level the new curriculum with any new things added and anything the supervisor specifically wanted them to know. Most of our teachers don't care for CSCOPE. Much is too general, time lines aren't good and everything has to be printed (lot of paper). Everyone is very fustrated and in a frenzy to do everything we are ask to do. There are 7 of us in first grade and we work together to divide up the job of lesson plans, coping and printing everything for each other. Some like it, but most you talk to don't. We had a good curriculum before, we were TEKS conscious, teachers made six weeks test that covered the materials and we knew exactly what we were doing. Our district still does some writing and posting things for us to use. So, why buy CSCOPE? They don't have things posted in a timely manner. It's up just in time. Most find it frustrating and confusing. I didn't mean to write a book to answer your question---sorry! I've worked in several districts and I know that not all districts write their curriculum--ours was very good and way ahead of the curve. I wrote 5th grade science curriculum for years. We had a team of 4-5 teachers from different schools in the district and worked together to add or fix anything that was needed. I think CSCOPE is here to stay. You can email me at sandymacdeep@yahoo.com if you have any more questions or if I can help you in any way. I hope this has made sense to you and was what you were looking for.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for over 30 years and still enjoying every day. It is a new day for me and my students everyday. My background experience includes counseling in middle school, assistant principal, teaching 5th grade science and science labs for 3-5, computer lab for 2-5 as well as years of experience in grades 1-5.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am trained in Learning Styles and Reading Styles and I try to always include a variety of learning formats in order to reach all learners. I was trained in New York with the Dunn & Dunn Learning Styles method. The key to successful learning for the child is to match their learning style with your teaching style. Individuality is adaptable for the students as well as the teacher. When your students are successful---you have done your job!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Student Success is the only honor or award I need or want. To see a face light up and the smile that appears a second later---tells me everything I need to know.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and certifications in Administrative Mid-Management and Supervision and nine hours away from a counselors certification.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I live in Texas and must admit that I can't imagine living any where else. Proud parent of a daughter and a son. Sad to say that they don't live in Texas, so I don't get to spend as much time with them as I would like.
