On the pop-up window it doesn't say what the revisions are. Do I need to copy all of the pages? By the way this works great. I have used it this year and I thought the B List would be too hard but it works out just right. The only thing is that I would rather the students turn it in nightly because some have not practiced it until the end of the week. I also like then to do it each night. What have you found when doing this?

I am so glad that you are enjoying these! I updated the Unit 5 Week 2 word list. For some reason, there was an extra box that appeared on this page. I also added the week at the top of each page to help us stay organized.

Many of my students have after school activities on certain nights and get home later than usual so I don't have them turn in nightly homework. When I used to do this when I first started teaching, it always seemed to be too much for me to keep up with each day. Now, I give them their homework on Mondays and it is due on Fridays. I love only taking one day a week to check homework and I usually have every student turn it in each Friday. Have a great day!

I have the new spelling all ready for this week. Thanks for the resource. A quick question. What does your daily schedule look like using the Reading Wonders with all of the components and small groups. It seems like a lot to try and get into in one day. Just wondered what your lesson plans look like with this and the literacy stations with the groups. It seems we have more recess and specials than others. I am wondering what works to leave out with this program.

Is the "A" list from the on level and the "B" list from the Beyond Level? At the end of the week, do you give one spelling test to some students and another spelling test to the other students? Or do you give them both "A" and "B" to demonstrate mastery in both?
Thanks,

I am interested inpurchasing your product because of the activities but also because of the differentiated list. I do not see a "B"list of words in this book and am wondering how you came up with these lists. Do they follow the weekly phonics rule?
This book has so much in it, but I am definitely trying to come to terms with it. I appreciate that you have put the work into it for spelling, but I would like to know how you chose the alternative words.

Thank you for your interest in my spelling homework!
Here's how it works: Since some of my students needed a more challenging list, I decided to differentiate my spelling contracts by having a List A of the regular weekly spelling words and a List B which had more challenging words. The challenging words consist of more difficult words using the high frequency words and the vocabulary words which correlate with the story for that week. You can read more about them on my blog at the link below:

Thanks for the resources. We just got our program and training on Friday and started school on Monday! Did you use the differentiated lists that the series has? I think the main (blue) lists seems a little easy for some of my students but not sure about your harder lists. It does not look like the one listed for the green groups. Yours looks like more of the vocabulary words - I'm not sure but it seems a little hard and not following the program. Just wondering if that will work and why you chose to do that.

I'm glad you are enjoying these! When I was making the List B spelling list, I noticed that a lot of the Beyond words were the same as the on level words. If students pass the pretest, I do not want them to study the same words so I added the high frequency words and/or vocabulary words to be more of a challenge for them.

There are two lists for each week is that correct? Is one a challenge list based on the same patterns as the regular list? Also, this doesn't really have to do with spelling, but I'd love to know how you use all the texts with the series. With our old series, we had one story to read together weekly. This series has the anthology and the workshop books. Do you read both together whole group, do you just read one, how does it work? About a month until school and I haven't seen the series, nor do I have any idea how it all works together! Any help would be great!

Sandy's Learning Reef  (TpT Seller)
Yes, that is correct. List A is the on-level spelling word list for each week. List B is a more challenging list for those students who already mastered the on-level words. I wrote about my spelling homework on my blog if you would like to read more about how I use them with my students. http://sandyslearningreef.blogspot.com/2013/06/fun-spelling-homework-and-literacy.html

Sorry that you haven't seen your new series yet! I know that can be frustrating. Hopefully you will have someone from the textbook company walk you through the series prior to the start of your school year. You may want to ask your reading specialist or principal if this is something that can be available for your school. There is also a website http://connected.mcgraw-hill.com where you can view all of the Wonders materials (Teacher manual, student books, workbooks, etc...) You do need a password to access this site. Our reading coach gave us our password so we could have access before our materials came in. You may want to ask your reading coach or principal if they have your user name and password so you can at least look at the materials online.

The stories in the Reading Writing Workshop are used to help teach and practice close reading. You will use this book more then the Literature Anthology book. Hope this helps! I think a lot of teachers will be using Wonders this year so hopefully we will start seeing some helpful resources pop up soon.

That is a great question! I actually just wrote a little about this in one of my latest posts on my blog and plan on adding a post about what I do for my independent practice activities very soon. :) http://sandyslearningreef.blogspot.com/2013/06/guided-reading-literacy-stations.html

For my independent practice, I usually have them practice the skill they learned with me in their guided reading group (inference worksheet, cause and effect chain, story box summary, etc...). Independent practice may be a fun retelling activity (http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Fun-and-Engaging-Multiple-Intelligence-Common-Core-Reading-Response-Activities-190115), story summary (di-oramas & tri-oramas), graphic organizer, or it could even be a workbook page from your basal reading series that reinforces the skill you just taught. I will add a more detailed description on my blog sometime this week.

As for the anchor activities, I use Activity Cards for Early Finishers from TheMailbox.com. Hope you enjoy your literacy station pack! :)

Good question! They are the high frequency words and vocabulary words from the same story.

Buyer re: Literacy Station Signs, Pocket Chart Cards, and 138 I Can...Task Cards!
Hi are these cards to label the centers? or do they have the steps. I'm looking for step by step for my pre-k class. for example Big Book Station 1. I can point 2. find a letter etc.

On each task card it has a picture that correlates with the activity and an I can statement. For example, "I can spell words using magnetic letters." The task cards do not have steps on them. Thanks for the question!

Unit 4
A Froggy Fable
Life Cycle of a Pumpkin
Soil
The Night the Moon Fell
The First Tortilla

Unit 5

Nancy S. re: 2nd Grade Differentiated Reading Street Spelling Homework Unit 1 (ocean theme)
I am using the 2011 edition. Is there a way to get the story titles for each unit so I can see how much overlap there is and then decide if it's worth purchasing the packet? If only 1-2 stories match, it's not a good idea, but if 1-2 stories are mismatched, that is different.
Thanks

When you download the Unit 1 freebie, the title of each story is at the top of each page. I would download the Unit 1 freebie and take a look at each story in your Unit 1 teaching manual to see how close they match up.

Here is a list of each story:
Unit 1
Iris and Walter
Exploring Space with an Astronaut
Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night
A Walk in the Desert
The Strongest One

Unit 2
Tara and Tiree, Fearless Friends
Ronald Morgan Goes to Bat
Turtle's Race with Beaver
The Bremen Town Musicians
A Turkey for Thanksgiving

Unit 3
Pearl and Wagner
Dear Juno
Anansi Goes Fishing
Rosa and Blanca
A Weed is a Flower

Unit 4
The Quilt Story
Life Cycle of a Pumpkin
Frogs
I Like Where I Am
Helen Keller and the Big Storm

Unit 5
Firefighter!
One Dark Night
Bad Dog, Dodger
Horace and Morris but Mostly Delores
The Signmaker's Assistant

Unit 6
Just Like Josh Gibson
Red, White, and Blue
A Birthday Basket for Tia
Cowboys
Jingle Dancer

I am curious myself to know how closely they correlate since our district is adopting a new reading program for next year. After you download the freebie below and check your teacher manual to see how closely they correlate, would you mind letting me know how similar the two editions are? Thanks so much!

What the difference between the Castle Quest and the Pirate Place Value? I was trying to decide if I need to purchase both or just one. Wasn't sure if they have the same activities with just different themes?

Sorry I got back to you so late. TPT was performing maintenance on the site at this time so I didn't get notification of someone having a question.
Castle Quest Place Value Game is a board game designed to play in partners or math stations. Pirate Place Value is leveled task cards to use in small groups or as a scoot game review (It also comes with an activity sheet for each level). Please let me know if you have any other questions.

It is from the 2008 edition of Reading Street. You can see a sample of the first unit below to see if the stories and spelling words are the same ones you use. They are the same spelling words for Unit 1, but have an ocean theme instead of a student theme. Let me know if you have any other questions.
