So we used this on Friday and I have to share it was such a hit! The kids looked so cute and I invited the VIP (very important parents) and found my class size of 20 doubled by their family members. The students were truly the stars, and I had them write acceptance speeches for their awards ("I'd like to thank..." and "The best part of first grade has been..."). It was awesome! Lots of them chose to thank Nectar, the class guinea pig-who was wearing his formal fur of black and white-and hearing what made their year special only added to this gala event. Thank you for helping us-the students, parents, and myself-create one of the most memorable moments of the year!

I got this all ready and my grade 1 kids were super excited but after they finished the first one they realized that there's a pattern to all the answers and the answers increased by 1 going down the line. They would only have to think for the first answer then no more thinking. Does this make sense?
I wonder if you would be able to do me and other teachers who are probably finding the same issues a favor? Either send me an editable file so we can rearrange them or would you be able to rearrange them and give them to us teachers as a redownload?
I'm a huge fan of your stuff and have purchased a few of your items!!

Good morning! I am a first grade teacher, formerly PK teacher. I just finished my masters in May (yea!) with a degree in Mind, Brain and Education – a subfield of education. The first program was started at Harvard by Howard Gardner and Kurt Fisher (if you haven’t read any of Kurt Fisher’s work on Skill Theory and you are interested in the cognitive processes involved in learning, you must read his work!)
Cut to the chase. When I moved up from PK to 1st I was shocked by my students’ lack of number sense. I spent an entire year and all last summer trying to figure out what was missing. In Nov I attended a workshop that on number sense. When I heard the presentation I recognized all the “big” names of the research I had been investigating. The workshop was a training session for an iPad app (Native Numbers). It seemed like a valid, robust app, but I am a skeptic and had to know: would this really work.
I am here to tell you that with the first skill set I saw every cognitive model of learning embedded in this app. I also realized that this app is more than a learning tool; it has built in formative and summative assessment as it is adaptive and levels up and down based on student performance and leads to mastery.
Now I am on a “mission” – everything we read tells us our students are lacking number sense. I believe this app is a fabulous tool to remediate those deficits. I have no vested interest in this app except that I am one of those people that has to solve problems and when I think I have found possible answers, I have to share that with others. Our kids are too important not to share---which is why I love reading blogs! I am asking for teachers to simply read the research and then try out the app and give me feedback---or give the feedback yourself to the developers. I am that convinced. I am not a salesman and I feel quite strange in this new role I have taken upon myself…but I have nothing to lose, or gain, except knowing that maybe we can have an enormous impact on our students!

I printed the awards when I purchased this product, then about a week or so later I printed a few more awards and they are now printing in the middle of the paper with about 3 inches on either side. The original awards were the entire 8 1/2 by 11 size. When it was re-vised, did the size change?

Curious Kid award says "For always showing asking smart questions and showing an interest to learn new things!"

I noticed that you maybe draw some of your own patterns for your products? Weird question maybe, but I was wondering how you incorporate those in your slides? Do you scan them in? Using what program? I create a lot of my own patterns this way too and I'm not sure how to go about most easily and effectively using these hand-drawn patterns on my slides. Thought I might pick your brain. :)

I hand draw, then scan the images. I color them using Photoshop Elements, which I got from a Bamboo tablet I purchased for around $100. I save the colored images as PNG files, and then use them like I would clip art! I hope this helps a little!

I love this! I was under the impression there were "coupons" for students to grab when looking through their choices in the book. I did not see them included. Can you create these please? I see the large description of the choice but not a small version for students to place their name on to save for when they are wanting to redeem. Hello Sarah! I just purchased your product and I can't wait to start using it. However, I noticed that the word "jump" is not in the pre-primer list. You have it later on in another list. Would you be able to put it in the pre-primer list? Jump is a word that I like to use at the beginning of the year because they get it right away. Thanks for making a terrific product!

Hey Linda! I use photoshop elements--it came with a bamboo tablet I purchased. I just draw on paper, scan, and color with the photoshop tools. I am definitely still learning as I go!

I absolutely love your Abraham Lincoln unit. I know for common core we also have to learn about Thomas Jefferson and George Washington as well. Have you though about making units for those. If so I would love to purchase those as well.

Super cute! I don't do literacy centers, I do the Daily Five so I couldn't use quite a bit of this packet. I love the Egg Dude & Dudette writing and Egg-stra silly joke & doodle book and could incorporate that into writing. Would you be willing to sell just those as a packet or individually?

I have a book comparison chart for the three books, and an art/creative writing activity that incorporates Mo Willems' art style with the b/w background and colorful characters. At this time, I probably won't be selling those items individually. My sweet friend Hope King also has a fantastic Knuffle Bunny pack that you can check out on TpT as well!
