I am a National Board Certified Teacher switching to 4th grade after two years of teaching kindergarten. The four years before that I taught a 5th/6th multi-age and 6th. The three years before that I taught at a private preschool, and before that--one year of a children's choir. My school is a "challenging" school--over 70% free and reduced and a minority-majority school with more nationalities than I even knew existed before I started here! I also run our school's 21st Century Learning Afterschool program for struggling 3rd-5th graders.
I use the balanced literacy approach with reader's and writer's workshop model. For math I do as much hands-on and physical movement as possible. I believe the only way we'll have time to teach EVERYTHING they want us to is to integrate, integrate, integrate. Also, most important to me are CASL philosophies-- tell students what they're going to learn, teach them, then help them figure out whether or not they've learned it.

My favorite hobby is writing. I have one children's novel finished, and am working on another. Someday I'll seek publication, but for now it's just fun to write!
