~ I am currently substitute teaching at the elementary school level (both classroom and resource), after having graduated with my BEd in May 2010. ~ During my student teaching, I taught Resource (Grades 1-6) and Grade 5 Math for six weeks; Resource, Grade 7 Health and Grade 9 Literacy for four weeks; and Grade One Classroom for ten weeks. ~ I have developed and delivered many individual and small group lesson plans in the areas of reading, writing and spelling strategies and mathematics. I have developed lesson plans for students with down syndrome and autism. ~ I have developed and delivered a grade one integrated unit on baby animals, covering language arts, science, social studies, health and technology outcomes. I have also developed and delivered a grade five unit on fractions, and a grade seven mini-unit on internet safety. I have also designed and taught numerous grade one lesson plans for a unit on bears and another on pumpkins.
I embrace the inclusive classroom. I believe teaching which incorporates integrated units and allows for multiple learning styles and intelligences, is the most engaging and effective style for reaching students.
I was awarded the Dr. Walter R. Shaw Prize upon graduating with my BEd, an award for a graduating student recommended by the education faculty (2010). I have accepted two awards for outstanding course work in Elementary Mathematics Methods (2008, 2010) and another for outstanding work in Technology Methods (2010). I was awarded the Estelle Bowness Memorial Award, for an education student who shows promise of being an inspirational teacher (2009). I have accepted a bronze medal in Graphic Design for a Skills Canada Competition (2004).
I obtained my Bachelor of Education Degree at the Elementary Level from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2010. Methods Courses I completed include English Language Arts (3), Mathematics (2), Social Studies (2), Science (1), and Technology (1). I have developed many lesson plans and units within these courses. I earned an Inclusive Certificate for completing an alternative practicum in Inclusive Education at University of Prince Edward Island in 2010. I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a major in Psychology and minors in English and History, at the University of Prince Edward Island in 2008. I obtained my Graphic Design Diploma at Holland College in 2004.
I have a strong creative and technological Background. I am proficient at creating multimedia presentations (photos/video/audio) using software such as PowerPoint, Photostory, and Windows Movie Maker. I am proficient at designing print media (layout/graphics/photo/text), such as worksheets and other educational materials. I enjoy writing (creative writing/poetry), photography and cooking as hobbies and consider myself proficient in these activities.
